What would you rather, a dev giving you a date and you sitting there waiting, and getting pissed when it gets delayed, or a dev telling you you'll get the game "when it's ready"? I'd rather have a polished game that wasn't rushed out. Max Payne 1 was polished. It ran well. It was a great game because the devs took their time on it.
Yea, they went through several developers, they were trying to find a company that would be able to not only help Remedy with developing the game they wanted but also create the Console ports because when the game went into production in 1997, they had no clue that the PS2 and Xbox would be out, so it was decided very late in production to release it on the consoles as well. So after several developers, they finally landed on Rockstar, who were perfect for the job.
Quite the contrary to the vid's description; Sam Lake was ALWAYS Max Payne as you can see from the other trailers; with Max Payne written next to Sam's picture.

They put that at the end of the new Duke Nukem trailer. Funny for a second, but then it really gets people pissed.
