@hcvang Robots can be used for a ton of applications. A robot that looks like us would be an excellent platform for learning more about ourselves, like a mirror. Understanding gestures, how our brain and our minds work from cues on the outside. It's also good PR move for a robotics firm to develop smarter robots that understand what a human wants or is trying to communicate. Imagine slave robots that could respond in emergencies accurately and prevent harm to humans, etc.
You guys act like their humans. I can easily tell an android from a human. Every time I stair in its eyes all I see is a life less machine. They can get everything perfect on the replication process but that stair always looks so artificial to me. Its like its a dead body laying there. Even physicly you can see some differences. The skin on the android is perfectly smooth, hair is to epic. BUT ALWAYS THAT STAIR WILL NEVER FOOL ME MWUHAHAHAA

The point is, robotics is still at a very early stage, but with time, I believe it will be harder to distinguish the two apart. As a mater of fact, they will mix biology and mechanical together, good luck telling them apart then.

I saw this program when it aired this summer, actually. So far they've succeeded in making the facial expressions realistic (and I mean realistic - down to the discreet eye motions, eyelashes and everything!) but the rest of the robot needs work. It can't get up and move on its own, nor can it speak without the person it is imitating in the control room directing it. Its hands can move, but the motions aren't natural. I think the name is clever - geminoid...twin android.
