  • @Spermwhales93 Oh, my bad. I thought 'Rob' was referring to Rick from Death. This was the only vid that I had seen from him.

My apologies. I hope his family is doing well.

  • @geragna He died quite recently, so his family are still grieving, but they're coping well. Rob's wife runs this channel now in memory of him.

  • And to think there will never be another Death cover by you.... =( that saddens me greatly. Well dude, I hope you're rockin' your big living room in the clouds! RIP Rob, you won't be forgotten.

  • RIP this is the best death bass cover i think ive ever seen, your up there with chuck playing death tunes and you will be forever!!!!!

  • Goddamn dude!! That's fucking CRAZY!!!

Excellent tone. Love this song, Leprosy is my 2nd favorite album from Death.

  • Not to be a stick in the mud, But Terry Butler isnt that bad of a bass player. Listen to any Six Feet Under Album, or check out a live vid, the guys got a definate ear for tone, I mean he may not be as technical as steve digorgio but cmon we all know steves tone sounds like those really thin type farts you have.

  • @Tbirdnotthecar91 I agree! Terry Butlers pretty damn good. If he can play the stuff Chuck wrote he's talented! And his tone is really good too. Especially in Six Feet Under. So growly and angry sounding!

  • @Allmanfan456 Actually Chuck recorded most of the bass in Leprosy. Butler sucks.

  • @Jazzyak47 I know Chuck did. Butler doesn't suck I think. He's a solid bassist. By no means absolutely amazing but solid. He's good in Six Feet Under.

  • @Allmanfan456 well, maybe he got better then playing just root notes in Spiritual Healing. Sorry , never listened to Six Feet Under

  • @Jazzyak47 He does root notes in Six Feet Under but he break out every once in awhile. He does what is needed and is solid at what he does.

  • Fucking Jesus that's fast!

  • great to find another death fan

  • thats metal man

  • Yes!!! i remember asking you to cover some deaths songs :D and you did as promised, I totally forgot about your bass shredding skills , some how you werent under my subscriptions anymore , and all i could remember was LRRG and found you this evening. Great playing , makes me wanna start playing some death again

  • @metalbassist shortly after my last comment i went to his page and noticed this LRRG had passed away my condolences to his family RIP Rob.

  • well hes jamming with Chuck now! \m/

  • He's too awesome for us.

    RIP

  • RIP Rob, I just found out about his untimely passing. i'm in shock actually. he will be missed by many, but remembered always...keep playing that RIC up at the pearly gates brother! you were one of a kind.

  • wow this fucking sucks, he was like second person i ever subscribed to, and he gave me feed-back on one of my earlier vids when i first joined yt. rip

  • R.I.P. Zodiakironfist, you truly are one of my idols in the world of music.

    Anyone know what just happened?

  • wtf did this guy die?!?!

  • unfortunatly yes.

Luckily we still have his channel to remind and influence us all.

  • jesus his family must be devastated

  • RIP Rob, zodiakironfist and thank you for all your great and inspirational playing. I can't believe your just gone.

  • RIP rob you are up there jamming with chuck schuldiner

  • Ironic that his last cover was by a band named death.

    RIP. u will be missed

  • RIP bro

  • Great cover!!! you're the best!!!

    RIP Rob

  • R>I.P. Rob- great job on this cover... I still remember watching you play on one of your first videos. :(

  • Great video... I wish I could post one of this song, but I have a bit of trouble in the part right after the intro, and i think it would be a crime to cut 3 minutes off of the song (seeing as I can only get 3 minutes with my camera) =/

Can the next death song you do be Open Casket, or perhaps Living Monstrosity?

  • i love death, best bass ever :D

  • do you learn everything by ear or tabs or a mix of both?

  • Just by ear.

  • thanks

  • gotta love how some of the fastest songs are also some of the LONGEST! At least this one has some sweet breakdowns to take a tiny break in!

    5² stars

  • Listening to this has been an inspiring start to my day! Thanks for doing this!

  • Awesome cover! That's some of the fastest playing I've ever seen.

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have been waiting ironfist!

you are soooo good...love how you play death with a 4001

  • I love how you always use Rickenbacker bass that's all my uncle uses you'd probably get along with him he's damn good like you.

  • awesome shit dude!!! love the tuning knobs btw...

  • Make that uber bass ninja!

  • 3:16 is solid gold my friend.

  • LOL I agree!

  • Holy crap, that's fast. I've never heard this before, and darn near soiled myself. It's a blast to watch you play man.

  • that's was a great COVER! keep it up! That is one hot bass guitar you have? what type of bass is it? I seen it in past videos but never seam to ask.

  • Its a 1974 Rickenbacker 4001

  • MORE DEATH!!!!!

  • I would really enjoy to see a cover from you of either Necrophagist, or The Faceless.

  • YES

    keep the death coming

  • I love the stage presence man... or room presence rather :P

  • AWESOME!

I've had people tell me bass isn't meant to be played fast, what is that supposed to mean? lol

  • Shit mate, thats some good playing there (even though your out abit sometimes, but hey no1's perfect all the time) Love your work.

  • Yeah, I am still not perfectly clean on the really fast Death metal (it is driving me nuts), but I soldier on.

  • You'd kill your arms trying to play they really fast thrash shit I take it.

  • Ragtube com was here... Home of INdie Artist

  • Dang, man. This song is FAST! Haha. Great cover!

  • nice work man. i've most of your video's your just great keep it up :)

  • Gotta love Death. One of the greatest death metal bands ever. I always love watching you play technical metal like this. Its insane.

  • Just you wait, bro....I'm going to move up Chuck's albums one at a time here in a bit, and it's going to get real technical, real quick. I'm kinda nervous about, to be honest. Always before I had a band to hide behind to cover the small mistakes.

  • Ohh thats gonna be fun as hell. I would be too Death just seems to get more technical from album to album. Your gonna be tackling some Steve DiGiorgio basslines once you get up to Human and Individual Thought Patterns. Good luck that man is insane.

  • Stunning what you pulled off with this song. The speed at which you play is ridiculous. Thanks for the new video Rob!

  • No prob. I've been meaning to get to the Death stuff, but a lot of collabs got in my way over the last month or two.

Still working on my speed, though...still not quite happy.

I even have one death metal collab project to do...but it is for originals. I'm looking forward to that..the opportunity to be creative. Graffengrinder has been patient.

  • ive been meaning to ask.. whats the white stuff on your tuners?

  • Those are plastic skulls. They are removable covers I made for my bass for when I play metal and feel like being a bit cheesy at the same time.

  • yeah Fucking brutal ! And you play so damn quick , one of the fastest I've ever seen!

  • Still not fast enough. I am working very hard to get to the speed DiGiorgio gets on later albums. At least that speed with that tightness....can't really have one without the other and have it sound good. When parts like the bassline during the guitar solo in this video sound 100% tight to me, I'll be ready.

  • Haha! I can imagine that it's very hard to have a clean sound when you're playing that fast. I don't play much with a pick, not because I'm against it (not at all) but because I simply can't play with one. I can play way better with my fingers, but somethimes I want that crunchy sound of a pick for a specific song. So I'm training ;)

  • A lot of guys who are natural finger players grow out their fingernails to get that pick sound and swear by it. Don't know if that would work for you, and you might feel a little creepy having one hand clawed like a panther, but I know that is one work-around. If you are a metal-dude, you can paint them black and add all sorts of varnish to them to add strength.

  • Haha :D I think I'll just keep practicing with the pick. They might look to me, and think I'm ready for the new roll as crusty the clown. when I'm doing a gig with my funk band, and I'm having those varnished nails :D oh man, I think I made so many mistakes in that sentence :p

  • Oh yeah, and there is the added drawback that if you have fingernails, you are forced to have the punchy, pick sound because unlike picks, fingernails do not come off.

  • Ah....I see you already thought of that :)

  • For the love of God, please do Pull the Plug, I fucking love that song, especially the scream he pulls off.

  • You're in luck. I already did it! Instant gratification for you.

  • This is fucking awesome, Death is an amazing band! I never knew Chuck played the bass.

  • awesome performance

  • Coming from a real death metaller, I really appreciate that.

  • awesome mate

  • Thanks.

  • Dude You inspire me a lot haha i love your tone

  • thanks. I changed my tone a bit for this tune. Less clank and more growl.

  • YES i've been waiting for you to upload a Death tune. Great Job from :48 to 1:17

  • Thanks. For that part, I had to choose between about 4 ways to play it.

  • crazy cover, not rly a fan of death metal, but good cover :D

  • I sure do throw a variety of stuff at people, don't I? Thomas Dolby and Death in one channel

  • haha yeah :P

  • Can't go wrong playing some Death tunes. And I did not know that Chuck played the bass on Leprosy.

  • Me either,at least not until today when I was googling Terry Butler

  • Sick stuff man. Well played.

  • Thanks, massivehead

  • Sweet! I was wondering when you might do some more Death.

  • It's laziness that stops me more than anything. Down-tuning is hard, like Presidenting.

  • Ridiculous song to play. And interesting that Terry Butler didn't play on the album.

  • You know when someone is playing fast when their right hand becomes a blur in the video! lol. Very impressive, Rob! Priscilla is really getting a work out on this one!

  • Nice, you answered my request!!!! THANKS!!!!!

  • Welcome.

  • I think a lot of Death's work had focus on the drums. Shoot... Chuck used a drum machine to come up with them. I know that much is true due to the fact of the demo versions on the recently re-release of Symbolic. And that was another great record.

I'd like to see you try some of the more Progressive albums they made, Rob. Could you step in Steve DiGorgio's shoes for a minute? I think Steve was the only one to play in Death to use his fingers or better yet... go fretless. heh.

    Great Cover, Rob!

  • dude that was awesome! Blisteringly fast, great job keeping up.

  • This is actually the first Death song i've herd and i'm very impressed :) I like it :) awesome cover

  • Death was one of the bands credited with "inventing" Death Metal. Chuck was way ahead of his time, for sure.

I'm glad to peddle Chuck's stuff. Back when it came out, it was obscure and new, and so it didn't get the attention that the Metallicas and the Anthraxes got, but his influence is felt very strongly in music these days.

  • Hey Rob, damn that was some intense shredding on the bass haha. Guess after this your pick was pulverized =). So you're obsiously enjoying the long weekend.

You know what - I just got invited to join a Death Full cover this weekend for Lack of Comprehension. This will be fun.

    Rock on!

  • Good tune. I definitely have that one on my list when I get around to the Human album. I'm trying to work my speed up for it...it's a hellaciously fast song in the pre-chorus.

Heck, all of my picks are worn into circles after a day's worth of playing. LOL. Death just speeds up the process.

  • Thanks, y'all. Well, that's it for this weekend's worth of vids. What a great thanksgiving! Back to bed for a couple of hours (feel another Turkey coma coming on).

  • great as allways rob! love your stuff!!

  • Great playing and really nice sounding bass.

  • It always amazes me how good you are with a pick.

  • It's all a matter of how you start. No one told me not to play with a pick, so I let it go as far as it would take me.

  • nice

  • thanks, man.

  • Brilliant stuff as always, Rob!

  • Thanks. I was a bit worried about the quality of this vid, but I am glad I released it. I've been getting pestered to do more Death ever since I put out Pull the Plug last year, and I love the music.
