  • Thank you for the video, your instructions are clear but it would be helpful to explain to non-US people like myself that this is also called treble stitch in U.K. terms so there's no confusion. And please, blow your nose! constant sniffing throughout is irritating, sorry...

  • Couldn't be anymore clear! Great video. We will be trying it out today. Thanks!!

  • You are a very good teacher - thank you for sharing.

  • How do you insert it so easily into the chain? I tried going to a smaller hook too. I can't seem to do it without opening it with my fingers. Thank you for this video! :)

  • mine looks horrible. im using soft yarn, trying to make a blanket for my baby

  • @niokias555 ohhh it takes some practice ....keep trying and with time your stitches will look better and better ;)

  • Thank you so much for this.

  • What kind of yarn are you using?

  • @kidakaen this is a 4ply worsted weight yarn brand name is Redheart super saver.....you can use any yarn to learn with but a 4ply worsted weight or a cotton yarn is best for learning with.... Cathy@ The crochet Crowd :)

  • Great video and you are a good teacher with a nice voice.

  • I am using a double crochet for this

  • Ok I am totally frustrated.Learning the to crochet and this video is great But I have a total of 21 stitches on my needle including my first one.Now after doing 5 rows,it is looking like I might have dropped a stich, the 5th row including my first stitches i started with looks shorter and I do not know what I have done as the I still have the same amount of stitches on my needle I have tried correcting it but no good. Help

  • @betseyperkins8 hello...learning crocheting can be a bit frustrating...but we are here to try to help :) it sounds like your rows are getting shorter as you go....this may be because your not going into the very last stitch in your rows instead you keep stitching into the stitch before the very last one on the end and this causes your rows to get shorter...this happens to a lot of beginners...hope that helps Cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)

  • @betseyperkins8 this used to happen to me when you get to the end of the row stretch it out there is often a hidden last stitch you need to grab before turning I hope this helps you if you miss that stitch your rows will get shorter and shorter as you go on

  • This will be very helpful, after my first blanket I will feel more at ease...thanks so much :)

  • lol i use my own crochet methods and i still get the same results

  • What size hook are you using?

  • I am just begining to crochet and I can make chains but my friend has been doing this longer than me for a few years and hers look alot better and she says they dont look right its kinda got me down because i can't seem to make them look right shes made head bands for babies and adults/teens and hers turn out perfectly flat and look nice while mine turn out round.... I don't know what to do i have been following your page for a while and i cant seem to figure out what i am doing wrong any ideas?

  • i subscribed because you did such a great job dude :) this is the only video that has made me understand it, you should upload more videos of different types of stitching keep it up :D

  • i still didnt get it !!!>>> but i like it so thanksss

  • So my wife has said if i make her a crochet bikini she will model for me. How do i make it so its as see through as possible? The deal is that it has to be real crochet and if there is a dispute about whether its real 'çrochet' or not her girlfriends will make the final decision. i feel that i have serious potential for her to renege on the deal when she has the support of the girls. Hence my need to make this a quality 'crochet' bikini if there is such a thing. Thin wool+huge hook=Large holes?

  • @gregjharrison.....ha ha ha......well to make a crochet project as see through as possible you can use a bigger size hook, a stitch like double crochet so the stitches aren't too tight and also you can use a 3 ply weight for a thinner yarn or a 4 ply would still leave holes.......good luck.....chanel@ mikeys helpdesk :)

  • absolutely fantastic.

  • If I could give two thumbs up I would. I'm learning this...it seems easy..nothing like knitting

  • how do you know which hole to go through? Im having trouble just after the chain stiches :(

  • I REALLY LIKE YOUR VIDEO I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF VIDEO BUT YOUR IS THE BEST I SEEN AND I UNDER IT BETTER THANKS

  • My needle thingy (fotgot the word) does not have a hook. What can I do?

  • @sasusakunatclairegal it sounds like you have a knitting needle that has no hook at the top......a crochet hook is totally different and has the hook you need in crochet to grab the yarn with......chanel@mikeys helpdesk

  • @mikeyssmail thank you very much

  • i have a question, if you are going to be double crochting something without a pattern, will the chain hve to go by threes? like this= _._._ and then for the next 3, look like this?= _._._._._ and so on nd so forth? like start off with 3 and continue to add 2?

  • @Dakota7257 not sure what you mean.... all you have to do is make the chain the size you want your project to be and the keep dc across back and forth and your done.......does that make sense?? chanel@ mikeys helpdesk

  • Do you have any other videos for different crochet patterns? I can only follow your videos.

  • Awesome instructions. I tried this years ago and got a twisted mess, but you made your instructions so clear, I'm ready to try again. Thanks!!!!

  • I don't know what I would have done without you!! I'm new to this and you have helped so much. Let's hope my blanket looks like yours.

  • I suck at crocheting and then I watched this I was doing it ALL wrong wwwwaaaayyyyy wwroonnngg and all I really wanna do is make a blanket but I will get help from my friend who has alot of chrocheting experience but this video helps alot

  • Am I doing something wrong if mine is twisting? lol

  • Am I doing something wrong if mine is twisting? lol

  • @xchrisxxmartinx ummm ya.....LOL..... make sure your keeping your chain straight at the beginning to avoid twisting.....if your further along then make sure your stitches are all the same tension....not too tight ....not too loose... practice will help make this better as you go....... chanel@ mikeys helpdesk :)

  • I knew nothing about crochet except how to make a simple chain on my finger. This helped me alot thank you!!!

  • That is a great easy way to show people how to double crochet. I dont understiand how the blanket gets bigger (wider and longer)

  • @erebos91 to make the blanket you make your chain to the length or how wide you want the blanket to be and then the rows build on top of each other back and forth to make the blanket longer...... hope that helps you understand....:) chanel @ mikeys helpdesk

  • @mikeyssmail okay thank you now i understiand. I thought that was how i would go about it but i had to double check. I have been using the loom's i am not sure if you have heard of them, they are great. Thanks for your help

  • Thank you!!!I made my first hat!!!You are the best teacher in the world!!!

  • I don't get it in the beginning when you say "The hook has to be turned" , please help ?

  • @dreampark16 as you crochet you need to turn your hook so the hook side is down to grab the yarn .....as you go along this will come natural after a little practice :)

    chanel @ mikeys helpdesk

  • Hi

How would i add some ribbon or lace round the sides :)

  • @532818 if you do a border around your blanket dc, chain skip space , dcetc....it will leave a space and you can weave the ribbon thru the holes!

    chanel@mikeys helpdesk..... :)

  • @532818 thats suppose to be DC, chain, skip space , dc then repeat! :)

  • Thanks :)

  • oh my this helped me so much i not even funny thanks your a pro

  • I was looking for a refresher, and this was perfect. I think you are an excellent teacher! I enjoyed it thoroughly. :)

  • This is by far the most helpful crochet video I've seen! I was having trouble with the dc and this helped me understand what I was doing wrong. Thank you!!

  • you show it so easy so i can make a blanket Thank you!!!! (p.s Very nice Work.)

  • you show it so easy so i can make a blanket Thank you!!!!

  • ughhhhh i cant get it!!!!! i have my needle and my yarn.,...damn!!

  • This is awesome dude! Keep up the good work! I got crochet stuff for christmas and my grandmother can't rembember the first steps anymore, and every other video goes way to fast. How did you get started on crocheting? Not many men do.

  • Dude, ur awesome, this is so easy to follow. So about how long does it take to make a blanket and how much yarn do you use???

  • @bugpickel1....time to make a blanket and how much yarn you use really depends on how big you make the blanket and the stitch you use......i usually start with 2-3 skiens of each color I'm going to use and then go back for more if i need it...mikey usually finishes blankets in about a week to a week and 1/2......me the same but sometimes a little longer..it also depends on how much time you can put into it and your skill level..hope this helps answer your question....chanel@ mikeys helpdesk :)

  • @mikeyssmail Thanks, it does help. You have really inspired me to start learning this craft. Your instructions are easy to follow. I'm going to buy some supplies and start practicing today. Love ur videos. Keep making more please.

  • @bugpickel1 if you are just starting I would recommend using a 4ply worsted weight yarn like red heart super saver and a " I "or "J " sz hook...... have fun and good luck..... chanel :)

  • @mikeyssmail Thanks

  • Thank you so much!!!

I've always wanted to learn and just put my mind to it, and every video I came across flew through the first steps, confusing me. Thank you for taking your time and actually explaining it!!!! It's clear and easy to follow. Now I feel like I may actually be able to learn! XD

  • your good... I mean real good if I GOT IT>>> Thanks

  • Thank you so much. I've been doing the only type of crochet blanket my Mum taught me and didn't know how to do straight rows. Fab and explained in a way that helped me realise lots of my "tension issues" (with your other video clip).

  • Thank you so much for this video! I just started crocheting and was getting frustrated because the yarn kept pulling too tight. You showed me the proper technique. Now I an crocheting much faster. Thank you!

  • this was so helpful for me. thanks for the video :]

  • thanks! i had to replkay it over and over but you taught me how to crochet!

  • You are a wonderful teacher. Very easy to follow and everything is clear and concise! Thank you so much!!!

  • He is great!!!!! I can do it!!

  • Real men crochet!!!

  • thanks you are a very good teacher...!

  • Thank you for a great video!! I am new to crochet and your video is clear and the right speed and your are a great teacher and explain it all very well....I will be checking out your other videos too... ;)

  • Thanks this is a great video. For three years I've been doing it all wrong, but as you know that just means my work ends up looking different; cute, but not what I wanted. Now I know what I was doing wrong. Thanks! This is very helpful.

  • I am so appreciative of this video! I find myself buying yarn, books and needles but never took the time or have the time for anybody to teach me. This really soothes my mind and calms me. This is my 1st time actually getting this far & I intend 2 embrace these videos. Pleeease keep them coming. You're an excellent instructor! :) The only problem I've had so far is picking out decent yarn. By me being an amateur, I picked out yarn that occasionally unravels :( Is that normal?

  • Comment removed

  • you did a great job explaining, I haven't seen a video in such great detail. ie others would say pull it through, but not show you with stitch to pull through which is super frustrating to me!!!! thank you so much you're the best!!

  • Lellow

  • Thanks so much for this video I have learnt so much - please keep them coming for beginners.xx

  • I don't get it!! I can make the first chain but after that I have no idea what you're doing. IM FLIPPING OUUUUTTT >:(

  • @gabyblabla74 hey dont be too hard on yourself and certainly dont give up!!!!! it takes a lot of practice to get these stitches right!!! You will get it just keep at it ...... if you practice it will get easier and easier!! dont forget that if your getting tired or frustrated take a time out and then go back to it!!!!! Let me know if i can be any more help to you!

    Chanel@mikeys helpdesk...... :)

  • I love all of your videos mikey!!!

  • This video is fantastic--thank you!

  • I can't be taught by anything I have watched about 50 videos and still can't do it :'(

  • @emmaleepeanut maybe you just need a time out for a few days and retry again... there's another version of this video if you want to try that one... it's in my collection here...

  • You Taught the unteachable person here lol(: Thank YOu!!

  • Thank You for this video... it's the best so far! I totally understand this one ... you should do a dvd, "Crocheting For Dummies" I so get this video and can't wait to see the rest of them. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Now I am excited to start ... was so afraid of messing up until now. My Grandmother taught me how to Crochet when I was small and I never practiced it since her passing over 20 yrs ago, thanks for bringing me back :o)

  • it took me ages to work out how to hold the hook right haha i either dropped it or the yarn all fell off but i seem to have got the hang of it now :D

  • this is extremely helpful, thank you for the wonderful video. i hope to see more videos, from you :)

  • Thank you for the wonderful video! I am visually impaired and have been searcing for a clear "lesson". Your audio and video are so easy to follow. This is the first time i have been able to achieve more than a chain! I canno thank you enough. I would love to see how you would describe the more intricate methods without the visual cues of the material. I look forward to viewing other videos and tutorials you share.

  • thank you for this excellent video!

  • This is a great video and has helped me out so much so thank you for that. The only question I have is how do I finish a blanket after using this method?

  • Comment removed

  • I find all your videos useful but can you do one for making a shawl? I've tried the others on youtube but the quality's bad or they're going too fast. Please please please! I really want to make a shawl!

  • My fingers are kind of bony and crooked, and there are gaps between the fingers. This makes it hard to hold the string to control the tension. Is there an alternative way to hold the string and control the tension?

  • My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was very young and after she passed I stopped crocheting. Recently, I've decided to pick it up again and 18 years later had obviously forgotten all of the basics. After looking at several different tutorials yours certainly is the most well thought out, gives the best practice, and you are very encouraging! Also, showing what NOT to do truly helped me through my first blanket project. Thank you so much for taking the time to post these! I'm subscribed!

  • I am making a throw blanket for my queen-sized bed. The length is long, about 6 feet. A couple of rows of double crochet in and it seems to be curling. Am I in trouble here and need to restart? Also, even though I am pretty sure I am not picking up stitches, it is getting longer? Please advise ASAP - thanks!

  • @CADMamaD i'm glad you asked that question as i am also having the same problem :( and i'm definatly not picking up stitches either as i've counted each row to make sure.

  • @CADMamaD as far as the curling some project tend to do this but you may want to watch your tension/make sure oyur not making you stitches too tight.....

and longer do you mean your sides are spreading longer???

    chanel@mikeys helpdesk ;)

  • @ptsgrl2495 @suffolklas: I decided to restart because I was unhappy with the way it looked & didn't want to waste more time on it & not have it look right. I am now 4 rows in again, after making it much less wide this time & I NOW like the way it looks - hardly any curling! What I did differently: w/the initial chains and the first row, I paid close attention to making sure I wasn't twisting the yarn when working w/it & left it much looser. Hope this will work for you too!

  • @CADMamaD thank-you it was the tension with me i started again and made sure it was looser

  • I do grab last stich and chain up one before turning not quite sure what I am doing wrong. But yes you know what I am talking about with the shrinking concept. Thank you..

  • @harleydiva1200cc hi...you just need to make sure it is actually the last stitch you are grabbing and then for a dc you want to chain three before you turn.....

let me know if you need any more help....

    chanel :)

  • I have attempted to do a baby blanket twice now and have had to tear it apart and start fresh. Same issues. I am fine with the stiches but having an issue with the blanket decreasing in size. I am at a loss and don't know what to do. It is like it shrinks. Not sure if I should anchor it somehow on the ends???? Any tips would be helpful and greatly appreciated. I am very new at this.

  • @harleydiva1200cc hi this is chanel from mikeys helpdesk.....sounds like you are a bit frustrated...I think I know exactly what the problem is.....you need to pay attention to the end of your rows....the very last stitch before you turn to go the other way!

if you dont go into the very last stitch it will cause the work to shrink and become slanted!

Mikey addresses this issue in the video so watch again and keep practicing!!! you will get it! :) let me know if i can be anymore help..chanel

  • Can someone help me

  • If you aren't a teacher, you've missed your calling! :) Finally an easy-to-understand tutorial with clear instructions! Thanks so much! I'm also following your loom knitting series, love that as well!

  • this is pissing me off. it keeps stopping at 5:04

  • @heathersbrides that is beyond my control... that's a you tube issue.

  • this is pissing me off. it keeps stopping at 5:04
