This was the first song I learned to play on the guitar - in 1980! We recorded Stan's version onto a tape with a microphone held next to a record player. Later got to hear him perform live a few times in Chicago.
beautiful song...fine guitar playing...let loose a little in the vocals, brotha. You sound sincere and are in tune for the most part, but you're not singing it with soul! Put your heart into it & take the chance you'll miss a note, rather than just coasting through like you're reading your dead great aunt's will.
You're probably used to the over-vibrattoed IDIOTS on American Idol. Subtlety is the key to emotion. If you understand soul, you don't need to be beaten over the head with it.
As good a cover I've heard of any of Stans stuff. Never actually heard 45 Years covered so, thanks. ... God he was great. Songs so full of emotion and beauty, and that voice. It has never failed to run shivers through me. I'm not a big fan of "love songs," but I think that Lies is one of his best.
)O( I know Rogers died years ago. but it seems not one single film or video exist of him actually playing his own stuff instead of piddly cover bands! they dont sound like he did! his voice had FORCE! and IMPACT!
mike, i'm pretty sure leafer6 doesn't want to sound exactly like anyone else, why would he, he has his way of singing these songs and as far as i can tell he hasn't let any of his listeners down yet, once again leafer great singin, keep it up
i grew up listening hearing 45 years by Pat Daily, so i thought that he was the one who wrote the song. i was shocked that it was actually Stan Rogers, so i almost turned it off; but i think that my love for Pat Daily's version kept me playing it. now it's interesting to hear the two version. congradulation, very good song
Hey thanks mate. I literally go out of my way to find time for a Stan Rogers song. I'm such a fan of his work and the finger work you've got goin' is great. Keep it up. Vocals come second!
Hey! For someone who has not heard of Stan Rogers and only learned this song recently you do a pretty good job on it. The more you practice singing it the better you will become. I like it!!

he was so good. i miss him as much as if i knew him. around here, stan rogers is an icon. not kidding.

first off, this is not Stan.
second thanks for the great rendition of 45 years.
third make it your song, give it the soul, that is, change the beat, slow it down, live the feeling.

Huh? Sorry, but this is a fair enough "singing around the kitchen" version of 45 years but the best cover you've heard???

That's a great song. I hear that Stan wrote it to convince Ariel to marry him.
