  • @leonardogzm That title was chosen because it was an experiment in alternate marketing. I'm normally fairly humble but sometimes you have to attract attention to your cause if you truly believe in what you are doing. Think of it more tongue and cheek...

  • @RozarSmacco :O! ok ok i totally get your point marshall i really dont wanna be a hater, you are totally right about self promoting and marketing thing, sorry if that bothers you! big fan from colombia! :)

  • Is that a Shawn Lane Vigier? SIIIICCKKKK!!!!

  • Any albums of yours I could buy?

  • this has just changed my approach to guitar .the degree of relaxation in the playing shows where most of us go wrong.the term hammer on should be replaced.with something that suggests smoothness and flow

  • "Powers of Ten" was quite enjoyable. "Get You Back" would have to be my favorite on that. West Side Boogie was fun too.

  • Is the shawn lane vigier good for rhythm (i.e. funk heavy riffing etc) as well as soloing. thinking of getting rid of my suhr modern for one, onlt i would change the pickups for greater versatility. Thanks very much.

  • @Jackwoolley I don't foresee any issue in playing funk with an SL Vigier. Any chords I've gone for have been made easier by virtue of the advances Shawn Lane has brought to the guitar.

  • @RozarSmacco

    Great, thanks for the advice.

  • @RozarSmacco Sorry just one more question. Do you find you have any problems with fret buzz? Especially when a more aggressive picking/strumming attack is used. I'v heard mainly positive feedback but one or two people have complained about buzz on every fret! Thanks.

  • @Jackwoolley This guitar WHEN properly setup by a trained luthier doesn't buzz in the least. If you set the action unreasonably low you're probably going to achieve some "unreasonable" sounds. As I've stated time and again and into the future, I can't say enough great things about the Vigier Excalibur Shawn Lane. Patrice Vigier has achieved THE most playable guitar on the planet. I wouldn't try half of my most technical ideas on any other instrument.

  • @RozarSmacco Thanks

  • Do you like your action really low?? or?

  • @42littlebit Yes. low action means that the "Magic" is at least possible. High-action means the more technical ideas are probably not going to come through.

  • @RozarSmacco Never heard it put that way before, thanks :)

  • @RozarSmacco What pick do you use? And how long have you used it?

  • what picking teqnique is he using in this, and what are some excercises i could do to have this fluid legato

  • @PIMPZproduction In this video, I'm using everything in my musical "toolbox". I've always believed that a player shouldn't just pick one technique over the others and forget everything else. One should be able to utilize all of them: alternate, sweep, hybrid picking. legato, hammer-from-nowhere, etc ...

  • Wow thats a very nice tone man! And sick skills.

  • what string gauge do you use?

  • Please tell me what I need to start on to become fluient like this finger strenght or scales what please help?????????????

  • @nikki435

It's pretty simple. The key to speed is rhythm. you have to know how to play equal amount of notes within a beat for instance sixteenth notes triplets are 6 notes per beat. Make sure they're equal. never too short of the beat. As for practicing, you can use a major scale or even the pentatonic scale.

  • @nikki435 I highly recommend playing along with Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock DVD (VHS in my formative years). I would play along using sweep picking and just match him or pause him and play till I got the idea. Do that everyday when you wake up for the first five or so years. Then do the same with Shawn Lane's videos Power Solos and the other one. Gambale's videos "Monster Licks" and "Workout" were fun to play along with as well.

  • @RozarSmacco

    Oh my god

  • faster faster man !

  • could you do a video talking about what scales you use? or how to use chromaticism like that?

  • I first saw/heard you playing over ten years ago and today it is clear you have greatly improved. Are you still a big Math Buff?

  • nice hybrid picking technique Marshall mad props man.

  • i love the tone and the playing. i suppose it reminds me of rusty cooley, but with (imo) a better tone and less non-stop shred. don't get me wrong i love non-stop shred, but i also love the more controlled shred.

  • @GoodMetalFTW look up allan holdsworth, thats who he sounds like.

  • @00sven00sven00

so true. his playing kind of reminded me of somebody, but i couldn't put my finger on it so i just said rusty cooley. i was thinking of holdsworth, but i was new to him at the time so he didn't come to mind as quickly as i wanted him to.

  • @GoodMetalFTW this playing is nothing like holdsworth, the only thing they have in common is the speed.

  • @pk978675

and tone, key modulation, and the fact that they really like legato.

  • Reminds me of Sonny Rollins unaccompanied sax solos.

  • What sort of picks do you use? They look very "petite" like these Jazz picks i got one time but am not used to playing with. They also look like they have a dip where your thumb and finger touch it. If you could explain a little I would appreciate it very much. Thank you :)

  • Can you teach me how to do this? Seriously, can you teach me to do this.

  • i spy some shawn lane descending groups of ascending twos.

  • To serious, lacks humor!

Would be great if it had some!

  • awesome playing, now try writing a song LOL

  • Your technique is so relaxed and fluid. I love it man.

  • Oh....yeah....I better buy the tab. Right now in fact...:)

  • amazing

  • where did you get that right hand?

  • @mattthom1986 For the foundation, It costs 80k at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California.

  • btw i don't know if you're a fan of shawn lane but i'd love to see you do a cover of him and i'm sure everyone else here would love to see it preferably get you back :)

  • marshall you should do a betcha can't play this video i'd love to see what your most insane lick is

  • what about 0:30

  • what about it?

  • bet ya cant paly this material

  • lol duh i can barely play the "simple" licks shawn lane put in his instructional dvds

  • You are one cocky MF

  • Maybe. It's also good advertising.

  • I like the modulations.

  • i have a question for ya -

did shawn use your all-hammer-on approach? i've been experimenting with those fast 3rd (or 3rd-esque, if doing more chromatic stuff) runs that he does, and am almost able to do it to the speed you are getting, but still a little off. you thing the pull-off may affect that? i may have to practice the all hammer-on thing; it's just awkward at the moment.

    nice playing btw.

  • i have one shawn lane vigier too...the neck is really big...i was really surprised by that....anyway shawn lane was playing on it, so let's do it..great work marshall ;-)

  • you're crazy !! what is gear man ?

  • I think he's doing something completely unrelated; maybe we should just recognize practice for what it is.

  • what a boring song

  • haha its for practice purposes for fucks sake

  • i dont know how buying the tab will help me ill never be able to play it xD

  • wow..truly impressive

  • i may not find the sound of super super fast picking and sweeping all that appealing but FUCK ME you can play that guitar!

your rivalling michael angelo batio im sure,

do you ever write any slower more melodic stuff? with less speed and more bends and harmonizing?

lol dont take that the wrong way btw im just putting ideas out there of my favourite type of guitar pieces, NOT trying to tell you what to do xD

  • dude mab is NOTHING compared to him!

  • I concur. Compare MAB's technique to this guy's: MAB is tense all the time, trying fuck all hard to pump all the speed he can, when this guy's keeping cool and hanging loose (which happens to be the proper technique). As hard as it is to say this, many of my favorite players use improper technique, but not this guy. Keep playing that guitar man.

Also I have a question: what guage of strings do you use, and how would you place the feel of your fretting technique: extremely soft, hard, or what?

  • yeah marshall should be in his place haha

  • MAB doesnt really play a bunch of stuff thats slow, or that sounds very well

  • i know, i just prefer slower melodic stuff, i wasnt using MAB as an example he was a milestone as up until this video id never seen anyone as consistently awesome as him xD

  • MAB's not THAT tense.

  • it's a bit quiet fella

  • it feels nice. It would be even nicer if it was thinner...like the Ibanez Wizard.

One of these days, I'm going to get a guitar company to make the ULTIMATE MCH model guitar, the most playable guitar ever contructed.

  • Why don't you just dand the neck down to be thinner and oil it up?

(I have done it myself to an excalibur btw)

vigier still use graphite in lieu of a trussrod so it's safe

  • have you gave ESP guitar's a try? i mean the actual ESP's not those LTD ones.

not sure how you would like them but i would chose an esp over an ibanez any day...unless that ibanez was owned by you at one point lol

  • i've tried high end ESPs and they all feel like kid guitars in my hands, has anyone else had this experience?

  • it's just amazing how you manage to do such sweeping and economic picking combined so fluidly...

check out my classical piece, it is just called etude, i wrote it 2 years ago (when i was 16) and i think you'll like it... it sounds like tchaikovsky although i didnt even know any of his stuff when i composed that piece...

thanks in advance if you watch it or not

  • Your my freaking hero!

    My God your awesome!

  • in your early years of playing how long did you practice? and now in the present how much do you practice?

every thing you do is soo fluid!

your playing is world class in my opinion

  • back in the day I played my guitar constantly after school...YOu can ask my parents, I was simply always playing.

Now, I pretty much play all day focusing less and less on piano.

  • ok ill ask you parents. now, invite me to your house. haha! joke!..

  • Great playing.

  • Amazing!!!!

  • Did I ever mention that you have good chops? Well, now you know.

  • Marshall, the last few vids have been low volume. But killer track!!

  • Completly amazing man.

    I'm literaly sitting like this
