if I'm not mistaking it was because mankind stated rocky (in coop with shan-o-crap) stabed him in the back and stole his title at an 'I quit match'.

mankind said in an interview with the boy-blunder before the actual match:'I will never say I quit, I quit, I quit!!'

and at the match rock knocked mankind unconcious but still he 'said' I quit (like in the 'interview'

So mankind stated he was the righteous champ and that he got ripped off. so he demanded a rematch
