I take it it's all about the instrument - as it is a violin/viola maker competition - and not about the interpret, thus: good instrument, rendition - sadness falls upon Moscow.

the instrument has a bright penetrating sound...the top end is better than the lower end...as it matures (wood becomes more interesting)the sound will get fuller and warmer...
