I think what balance of the force means is that their will be an equal number of Sith and Jedi because after Anakin turned their were left only two Jedi (Obi Wan and Yoda) and two Sith (the Emperor and Vader). This begs the question as to why Yoda is so excited for his entire order to be brutally murdered or half to turn to the darkside but hey, midiclorines .
this movie wasn't a star wars movie, it was the celluloid equivalent of raw sewage. Ok, maybe that's a bit harsh. Ewan McGregor struggled manfully with the tripe he was given, Christopher Lee is awesome in everything and I quite liked the fight between obi-wan and jango on the landing pad on kamino, you know...where he DOESN'T use his lightsaber for once as he loses it....and that's all i got. otherwise, the film was just a huge mess.

when i first saw A New Hope as a kid I envisioned the Clone Wars as something fantastic, with an air of mystery and mystique to it. and then Attack of the Clones came out and it was just stormtroopers fighting robots. boo.

Episode II was a gay retarded love story that ended with 10 minutes of action. It sucks balls compared to the Phantom Menace, which also sucks balls. The only reason anyone likes Attack of the Clones is because they only remember the last 10 minutes. The action was stupid as fuck too. @gleeksrthebest Eh, to me, seeing as it was Disney's 50th animated feature, I was expecting something pretty good, but it was a real disappointment. It doesn't compare to the old classics (Fantasia, Snow White, Pinocchio) or the 90s greats (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid).
Great reviews. Just finished watching the Phantom Menace one and I enjoy your insight. I've never noticed so many inconsistencies with these films.
However, your attempts at humor aren't very amusing. I know you're trying to play the "creepy movie nerd" type of guy. But still, the most I get out of those scenes is a lazy chuckle.
2 was below average but 1 was worse,yeah i used to imagine myself in the stormtrooper role and kinda feel bad for them,until lucas made them all into clones and spoilt it.
No main character? Um, neither did the originals. It was split between Luke and Han. Its the same here, Obi-Wan and Anakin.
The only thing that stopped the prequels being fantastic was George's refusal to bring in an experienced director. His experience with directing actors did improve over the three films, but it was far too little, too late.
@SamusDrake That's not true though, remember its was Luke's stories, it begins and ends with him and revolves around his plight and goals. Han is a great character which is why you might feel that way but by no means is he the main character, he's just Luke's lancer.
Then in that logic, the prequels revolve around the plights and goals of Anakin. Obi-Wan is just Anakin's mentor and to give terrible comedy relief with crap one-liners! ^_^
@SamusDrake no way. Han didn't even appear until an hour into a new hope. He was no more important in ESB than Leia was. And I think C3PO had more dialogue than Han in RotJ.
Yes way! Anakin didn't show up until about...I dunno, 40-odd minutes in the Phantom Menace. And he was supposed to be the hot potato of the prequels. ^_^
Thinking about it, I think George should have started Phantom Menace with Anakin on Tatooine and then introduce the party from Naboo. Let the audience guess why they are there rather than simply spoon-feed it to them. Apart from Anakin being the "chosen one" and winning a race, he has no function in that movie at all! o_O

Wow, I disagree with this review, and Revenge of the Sith Explains many of this , He was able to chop apart the Phantom Menace but he cant do it as much with Attack of the Clones... It was meant for Dooku to be ambiguous I do believe that Attack of the Clones is the weakest entry but it basically set up Revenge of the Sith, take Two Towers for example, its a great movie and it bridges many gaps in alliances and allegiances and it introduces Gollum BUT does it TRULY advance the storyline.
@HandsSolo Of course it advances the Story in The Two Towers. We are introduced to the region of Gondor, ALOT more characters than Gollum. Faramir, Theoden, Gandalf 'The White', Eowyn etc etc etc. Not only that but it shows the bond between characters, and how they cope with the passage of time and the war. How can you say it didn't advance the storyline? We saw Sam and Frodo going through Gondor and nearing Minas Morgul. Aragon and co travel leagues upon leagues through Rowan etc. Seriously man

Two towers was necassary for development but The clone wars would've only been necassary if it had been the FIRST prequel. Otherwise the phantom menace had no point at all other than introducing Anakin which they do here too anyways.
I think with the prequels George Lucas wanted to include something in the film that would've been around hypathetically when the films would've been released e.g. since Star Wars was made in 1977, and Attack of the Clones is set 22 years before it that would've hypathetically put the release of the film in 1955 which is why I suppose it was given a name similar to '50s B-Movies, why Dexter's Diner looks so 50s, and why Anakin's taxi looked 50s aswell. But still this imagery was shit basically.

Seriously, are we supposed to believe that Anakin and Obi-Wan were good friends? All they do is bicker, in every single scene they are in. And not in an innocent, charming way, like the protagonists from Lethal Weapon. THOSE two were friends. These two don't bond at all and only get on each others' nerves. Plus in order to develop a friendship between characters the characters themselves have to be more than carboard cut-outs. Screenwriting 101, Lucas! You get an F.
He made a great point in this reveiw, this is a war between disposable emotionless clones and robots we can watch them be slaughtered by the thousands and not give a shit. If a Jedi goes down who cares! Making us care about forces isn't hard look at two towers, we see a small army of terrified old men and young boys being given weapons and hugging their families. We see the massive forces agienst them, and we feel bad for them becuase we can relate to their fear becuase their human.

@Bwkjam Agreed, the gratuitous use of CGI armies of clones, robots, and aliens throughout the prequels causes total detachment by the audience. It is compounded by weak and clumsy characterization, so that even the human warriors (Ex: Naboo pilots, Jedi) are inconsequential.
While they are LEAGUES ahead of the Prequels, the battles in Two Towers and ROTK are no masterpieces IMO. The 'heroics' stretch credibility, the comedy is excessive (Ex: Gimli stuff), and again the cgi is overused.
Stop following the George Lucas path, and continuing your disregard and contempt for your audience.
I speak for most, when I say: Get back to Plinkett reviews, and shut down this bullshit, annoying "Half In the Bag" shit.

Great reviews. Just finished watching the Phantom Menace one and I enjoy your insight. I've never noticed so many inconsistencies with these films.
However, your attempts at humor aren't very amusing. I know you're trying to play the "creepy movie nerd" type of guy. But still, the most I get out of those scenes is a lazy chuckle.

No main character? Um, neither did the originals. It was split between Luke and Han. Its the same here, Obi-Wan and Anakin.
The only thing that stopped the prequels being fantastic was George's refusal to bring in an experienced director. His experience with directing actors did improve over the three films, but it was far too little, too late.

@SamusDrake That's not true though, remember its was Luke's stories, it begins and ends with him and revolves around his plight and goals. Han is a great character which is why you might feel that way but by no means is he the main character, he's just Luke's lancer.

Yes way! Anakin didn't show up until about...I dunno, 40-odd minutes in the Phantom Menace. And he was supposed to be the hot potato of the prequels. ^_^
Thinking about it, I think George should have started Phantom Menace with Anakin on Tatooine and then introduce the party from Naboo. Let the audience guess why they are there rather than simply spoon-feed it to them. Apart from Anakin being the "chosen one" and winning a race, he has no function in that movie at all! o_O

Your bringing up the fact that anakin didn't appear until late in episode 1 doesn't prove that a main character can be introduced late in a film; it proves that anakin WASN'T the main character of episode 1. Noone was actually. Han clearly played the side kick role in the original trilogy. In all 3 films he has no more importance than C3PO or Leia. And you say he shares main character with Luke? What are you smoking?

Wow, I disagree with this review, and Revenge of the Sith Explains many of this , He was able to chop apart the Phantom Menace but he cant do it as much with Attack of the Clones... It was meant for Dooku to be ambiguous I do believe that Attack of the Clones is the weakest entry but it basically set up Revenge of the Sith, take Two Towers for example, its a great movie and it bridges many gaps in alliances and allegiances and it introduces Gollum BUT does it TRULY advance the storyline.

@HandsSolo Of course it advances the Story in The Two Towers. We are introduced to the region of Gondor, ALOT more characters than Gollum. Faramir, Theoden, Gandalf 'The White', Eowyn etc etc etc. Not only that but it shows the bond between characters, and how they cope with the passage of time and the war. How can you say it didn't advance the storyline? We saw Sam and Frodo going through Gondor and nearing Minas Morgul. Aragon and co travel leagues upon leagues through Rowan etc. Seriously man

I think with the prequels George Lucas wanted to include something in the film that would've been around hypathetically when the films would've been released e.g. since Star Wars was made in 1977, and Attack of the Clones is set 22 years before it that would've hypathetically put the release of the film in 1955 which is why I suppose it was given a name similar to '50s B-Movies, why Dexter's Diner looks so 50s, and why Anakin's taxi looked 50s aswell. But still this imagery was shit basically.

Ep 1 Jar Jar
Ep 3 Bad acting
Ep 4 Lightsaber fight was super lame
Ep 5 Bad ending
Ep 6 Horrible ewoks took most of the movie
In the end, Ep 2 kicked the most ass!

Seriously, are we supposed to believe that Anakin and Obi-Wan were good friends? All they do is bicker, in every single scene they are in. And not in an innocent, charming way, like the protagonists from Lethal Weapon. THOSE two were friends. These two don't bond at all and only get on each others' nerves. Plus in order to develop a friendship between characters the characters themselves have to be more than carboard cut-outs. Screenwriting 101, Lucas! You get an F.

He made a great point in this reveiw, this is a war between disposable emotionless clones and robots we can watch them be slaughtered by the thousands and not give a shit. If a Jedi goes down who cares! Making us care about forces isn't hard look at two towers, we see a small army of terrified old men and young boys being given weapons and hugging their families. We see the massive forces agienst them, and we feel bad for them becuase we can relate to their fear becuase their human.

@Bwkjam Agreed, the gratuitous use of CGI armies of clones, robots, and aliens throughout the prequels causes total detachment by the audience. It is compounded by weak and clumsy characterization, so that even the human warriors (Ex: Naboo pilots, Jedi) are inconsequential.
While they are LEAGUES ahead of the Prequels, the battles in Two Towers and ROTK are no masterpieces IMO. The 'heroics' stretch credibility, the comedy is excessive (Ex: Gimli stuff), and again the cgi is overused.
