The American porcupine is a bit different looking and it's quills actually have tiney barbs that when moistened with blood swell up and get firmly lodged in the flesh. They're incredably painful to remove.

If I could be any animal it would be porcupine...lol. Not the strongest or the fastest but ALL predators think three times before trying to capture one. Plus they are adorable...lol.
