  • oh !!!!

    great Japanese !!

  • One day they'll have secrets, one day they'll have dreams....

  • this is fantastic.

  • nice video sharing. thanks

  • かわいいーーーー。

    ちゃんとお辞儀するところが日本のロボットなんだよねぇ。

  • Music is much deeper than what a machine can do, a robot will never substitute a man is the playing of a Mozart or Bach pieces for example. The spirit and the feeling that are needed to play things like that couldn't be put on a robot.

  • i dont see any other car companies doing work outside of the automotive world like honda...... honda is best

  • @turbo3oh I know Toyota also does work in robotics.

  • Asimo looks like a mini astronaut :L

  • joder si que es impresionante lo que se vera en el futuro!!

  • Asimo is sooo cute.

  • Now I have to admit I'm not pleased to see a human conductor put out of a job, but you have to admit, Asimo ain't bad for a tin man....

Of course, it's the fine folks of the orchestra doing all the work, but still, I think this is neat!

  • ASSIMO

  • i love how he"s conducting in 3 but the music it shoes and the song are in four haha i appreciate the joke though. :)

  • Is it just me or does to robot look like an astronaut?

  • 次は、SUPAER MARIO を指揮して欲しい。

  • Great Japan !!

    HONDA as No1 !!

  • heý_âNY_gùys_wÃnt_tÓ_chAt_wíth_mè

  • How on earth did they think they should try to make a mechanical thing walk like a human, and hw did they figure out that computer code can achieve this? They went step by step.. I just saw the 2011 ASIMO - the movements of the legs, the fingers, the arms and the way it runs are so incredibly smooth and fluid. It is better than ever before.

GO HONDA. They are not just doing business selling stuff, their research is helping advance the knowledge of human kind. Greatness. I Love JAPAN & HONDA.

  • See how he made them wave back? ROBOT TAKEOVER.

  • Scaring as Hell. John Connor was right....

  • @pwn3dpwn3dpwn3dpwn3d Oh come on! Do you know how many people are needed for that? ASIMO couldn't even change the oil of my car without investing millions of dollars in cameras and specialized sensors!

  • amazing.. but i felt there is violin sounds out of pitch at 1:43

  • yay ASIMO hes sooooo cute C:

  • GM OR FORD WANT B HAPPY. WHERES ROBOCOP WHEN U NEED HIM.

  • Asimo is lonely. Because there are so few other Asimos for him to play with.

  • Is there anything ASIMO cant do??

    You: Have feelings, hurr hurr!

  • fucking amazing

  • Comment removed

  • aaaaand then the orchestra went on strike,,,,

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger should be the voice of Asimo!

  • that was quite fun in a what the hell way

  • one of the only black men there an they replace him with a robot....wtf

  • tobiasmulti7 nope he won't :D Fun experiment, though.

  • @tobias7777777 And who is going to do the training? And who is going to do the training when something NEW comes along. Real conductors have personality, and style, and know how to work the audience. This little guy will never manage that.

  • the robot is very fantastic

    the tecnologi is avanced today

  • Ok, all well and done, but you'll never ever be quite as good as a real conductor.

  • @witness124 Your wrong. Computers are in single tasks a lot better than humans. And if he is trained enough, he will be better than every human, that ever lived

  • @tobias7777777 No, you're wrong. If you even think, that, from the point of view of a composer and a fond lover of orchestral music, this isn't deeply insulting, then you are very much mistaken. If you think that the orchestra is actually bothering to look at Asimo's movments, then you are also naive to a ridiculous point. A conductor has to put love into it, and try as we might, we can't train that hunk of metal and plastic to feel love.

  • @witness124 i dont refer to asimo. In general. If there ist one day a strong AI, it will have no problems be as good, or perhaps better, than the best human. It is not proven, that there will be a strong ai, but i hope that it will come.

  • @witness124 you are wrong, we can input a signal for love.

  • @LetsWangChung In the words of the italians, you total smargiasso. Who would he love? Who would reciprocate it. Answer that, 'ya damn transhumanist.

Only joking, i've nothing against transhumanists in general.

  • I don't know how it feels for others, maybe is scary for some, but for me when I look at this it makes me dam proud to be human. I am proud to be born and to live in this century, which in the eyes of many it's going to be the most important century in human history. Is the century in which either we become a type one civilization and begin colonizing the space, either we destroy ourselves with our technology. But I have a feeling we will be ok.

  • if this was made in america it would've came out drunk. burp, farted then fell apart in the middle of the stage XD

  • @LAHrebirth LOLOLO

  • @LAHrebirth lol i totaly agree

  • @LAHrebirth lol

  • @LAHrebirth if it was made in america it will have guns and kill inocent people!

  • why dislike this amazing video?are you guys a Technophobia?

  • Please search for "3 year old conducting" on Youtube and watch Jonathan acting like a conductor. No robot ever, will ever, ever, copy this. Especially the end of Jonathan's video!

  • Yes. Did you hear the sections where there was supposed to be an increase or decrease of tempo to create more feeling in the music? The symphony could barely keep the ensemble, let alone alter the feeling of the music. The connection between the human heart of the conductor, his ears that hear what is actually happening in the moment, and the meaning of that-feeling if you prefer-as well as anticipating and preparing the feeling and musical movement to come are totally and absolutely lacking.

  • The Honda name is becoming more and more powerful! haha!

  • WOW!!!!! OH SHIT!!!!!!

  • wahts this music called i cant find another recording of it

  • @Dalek1230 The Impossible Dream

  • It's called "To Dream the Impossible Dream" from the musical "Man of La Mancha" There are some clips on Youtube of the movie version of it done in 1972, directed by Arthur Hiller.

  • nice idea, but if you think a bit about it, its really stupid - that isnt music anymore, well played but with no emotions

  • @MrKugelschreibermine

I so agree with you. The clips of the movie version which are posted on Youtube too, speak so much more because of human feeling. But most important to Detroit's choice of song, is the fact that the musical is a version of Don Quixote, a Spanish novel written in 1606, whose author Cervantes Shakespeare admired, the greatest most inspirational novel ever written. It has inspired virtually every literary movement we've ever known. And now it's inspiring a robot.

  • its not awesome, its fucking awesome

  • it would be so lolz if a robot in the future watched this and said good job grandad :P at least some guy it the future will read this maybe tommorow

  • love the way asimo says hello and the corwd goes "Awwwww"!

  • Think a bit: this scene must be in a Sch-Fi movie, but now it's the true, the reality.

  • Humanoid robots are even more autonomous and sophisticated, in 2010-2011!

I love the machine's fluid, humanoid movements. I lve robots all my life.

  • So cute. ASIMO is too Japanese to forget bowing each time he moves.

  • A Japanese robot conducts what might be the only good thing in the former American big 3 car manufacturing city.... ironic?!?

  • Honda robot conducting the DETROIT symphony?

  • I dunno..something about HONDA and TOYOTA conducting a DETROIT symphony seems wrong.

  • It's a theme from Don Kichot musical, isn't it?

  • 1:42 listen to flute it plays an F too soon....clashes lol

  • terminator is just a movie. i'm really tired of everyone involving world destruction with artificial intelligence. open your mind.

  • @Zero1216 lol "open your mind" is from Total recall lmao

  • I ducked when it turned towards to audience to bow. - I was expecting positron cannons to appear and blast everyone.

    Someday you'll see.

  • a small signal surges through asimo... "I can control what the humans do..."

  • Asimo shoud be AwesomO!

  • @jfeltes2 i think it is already

  • It's a cool robot, but it will never beat the intensity of a human conductor. Being in an orchestra myself, I know how much I love the conductor's expressions when someone needs to come in, or slight nods of the head that a robot can't do. Emotion! is what is lacking with a robot conductor. Cool, but not better than human.

  • I wonder if Asimo "learned" the melody in order to reproduce the movements... But I doubt it...

  • @EmanBloe: No, it learnt the movements from a video of a conductor conducting the same thing.

  • @JayashriV That indeed would actually make more sense.

  • My dad is in the DSO he's right in the back i see him!

  • well this made my day lol a robot conducting a orchestra :D

  • @SkuyaHamilton It's such a simple function when you break it down but it's beautiful, isn't it?

  • Simplemente maravilloso. La sensibilidad de una máquina en todo su mayor explendor. Gracias por compartirlo.

  • Asimo!!!!!

    asimo!!!!!

  • Awesome!!(^_^)

    ASIMO!!

  • This is the first phase of robots controlling human species

  • @eclipsegsx268 LOLOL

  • ASIMO army

  • its not the real asimo this one is controled by human with a joy stick

  • And one of the heads of Australias department of environment is named john connor...

  • WARNING: Robots will become self aware and destroy humanity.

  • @ChaosDynamics otherwise knows as the movie I-ROBOT

  • Nice. But Anybody knows that a conductor's greatest tool is his facial expressions...

Anyway, give the kids music education, please!

  • if all instruments are also played by Asimo, that would be just great.

  • What other car company does things like this? Man I love these guys and I'm sticking with Honda.

  • @KeepingModern toyota has one that plays music xD

not saying one is better though, they are both quite amazing.

  • daria mi vida porque ubiera mucho mas personas que tuvieran la inteligencia para fabricar estas bellezas

  • impressive, asimo from honda and the now discontinued qiro from sony were some of the coolest humanoid robots i've ever seen

  • To dream the impossible dreams.....

    I LOVE HONDA!!!

  • Anyone have a clue what kind of actuators Asimo uses? They move so fluidly, it can't be servos.

  • 500 million dollar metronome.

  • LOL, and it doesn't even click.

  • @Individualism101 actually $1 mil, or less. a few years ago it was $1 mil might be cheaper now

  • oh, ASIMO from the science project I think a year ago, It's pretty amazing how ASIMO works, I wish I had one to play nerf wars with me.

  • It took Honda many years before reaching success.

  • ahaha i love how it walks...

  • can these things be sold yet, how much are they?

  • @ABigMuffin : $1 million

  • Does Detroit even have an orchestra anymore?

  • amazing robot

  • Comment removed

  • @XxdianaxaileenxX I think this is about raising awareness for music education. Of course a robot can't conduct an orchestra :)

  • loco que raro... O.O jajaja

  • hujue puta un robot va a quitar mi trabajo

  • The person of the inside has a hard time.

    中の人なぞいない!

  • And to think, someday, honda and toyota will merge and name themselves skynet...

  • @fastweirdo - LMAO!!!

  • also this is pretty ironic that asimo is made by honda since detroit is the home of ford and american made cars. ohh well lol. still, i'm sure this is just showing how technology can be used. i really hope this doesn't take away from any conductor's jobs. i don't think a robot can replace a truly gifted conductor.

  • one day they will be able to replace a human in any job field.. the rate were going we can make a CPU faster then the human brain by the time im 54. im 20 now.. by that time storage will be 50 times that of the brain.

the hard part will be the body and its mobility / agility. thats the hard part. along with coding it.

but robots will be able to replace us. its something we just cant and wont avoid.

  • But don't you think if it got to the point that robots would overtake humans, us humans would stop making robots? After all, we are the ones that control the robots, not the other way around. Not saying robotics won't be a major part of life in 50 years, but they'll always be secondary to humans.

  • We can only hope. Then the human race will be able to start focusing on advancement and stop resorting to idiotic repetitive tasks day and night.

  • @Stuna2150 they cant replace us.........they can only do things that we program them to do, no matter how fast there brain works

  • @ricksmiths10

yea i know that. but there will be a time where we will let them loose. allow them to be self aware. like in I-Robot and if that happens they could destroy us since we are destroying our own planet.

its prob never going to happen but there will be a time where we will have to be careful how much power we give to them

  • @Stuna2150 Your funny....

  • @ricksmiths10 Sorry to point this out Rick, but it's their brain no there brain :-)

And to be honest it's only a matter of time before we will only need to program them with a small set of instructions and they will do the rest on their own.

  • we will have to program robots, for them to figure out stuff on there own

so one way or another they will only be able to do wat we let them do

  • haha hillarious

  • GM & Ford should also make something like that.. lol Asimo is so cool...

  • OMG! I heard about these years ago. Their using them now??? @.@

  • Yes, it's cool. Yes it's accurate. Yes it's creepy. Yes it's innovative. But where's the passion? Where's the rubato? Where's the phrasing?

It's just an expensive metronome to me and I hope that it will NEVER replace a true, gifted, and honorable conductor.

  • I agree.

But I think this event is good.

    To my eyes, it looked

all the players and audience enjoyed.

    Detroit Symphony Orchestra is nice.

  • In truth, robots are devoid of emotion. Music is an expressionist thing. It is silly to assume humankind will let a human take over music. Manual labor on the other hand will sooner or later be completely run by technology.

  • its theoreticly possible to program emotion into a computer

we just haven't reached that point in coding yet. but its been said that it is possible.

remember. evolution worked it out perfectly to help us live in this harsh world. so we can do it to.

  • @Stuna2150 Theoretically yes. However in order to program emotion you must define emotion. If you can define love into a set parameter and program it into the machine then you will have "Love". Watch the movie A.I. by Steven Spielberg.

  • @xm8563 you have a solid point there my friend. emotions are a blury subject lol. now that i think about it i wonder if i even know exactly what love or anger really is. and i will take your advice and down load that movie =] ill tell you how it is if you reply back

  • I think the creators need to watch terminator before this thing kills us.XD

  • @liquidacid507 But he looks too cute to kill us. xD

  • It's trying to decive us with it's cuteness.>3

  • ASIMO es el mejor

  • =D the ending sweet!!!! but in the beginning didnt seem in time

  • BRAVO!!!!!!

  • ASIMO IST SOOOO COOL

  • good robot! :D

  • wow! Robots rules the world!

  • まだ、人間が合わせてる部分が大きい

    ですが、凄いですね。近い将来背中の

    ランドセルみたいのが無くなるでしょう。

    途轍もないロボットになると予感。

  • Teaching human beings and doing real music needs a brain, a hearth and a soul.....something no robot can have....at least till now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol why is ASIMO in the apocalipsis section?

  • if they continue making robots like this they would put some people out of jobs like teachers

  • @ileeniex So?

  • it would have some ppl homeless like for ppl who study to become a teacher the once they graduated then it the big let down that they can't because a robot is doing their dream job or watever then soon the economy will be decreasing even more and have ppl on the streets who worked hard for something and lost it to robots

  • I for one welcome our new robot overlords.

Edit note; it is permissable to allow a shot to last longer than five seconds.

  • The song is "The Impossible Dream" and inspires one of the most beautiful musical plays called "The Man of La Mancha" (Quixote). It's so well selected... beauty, pure beauty: Artificial Intelligence and Music (thats pretty much based on mathematics). Beautiful in so many ways... Congrats!

  • What is this song?

  • Detroit respect!

  • that robot gave a constant beat that can help an orchestra

  • His conducting is mild, but that's okay for a robot, and it's cute too.

  • Power of Dreams

  • placing the components inside a faraday cage would prevent that.

  • jesus

Give it a assault rifle and its a 5.1' white friendly looking T-2000 terminator.

Am i the only one seeing battalions of asimo's battling in warfare for japan

  • Way to downplay the role of a conductor Honda. That dumb robot would trip over a crack in the sidewalk, yet were lead to associate creative awarenes with it? Is that how Honda innovates their technology? Through PR? Haha. Boston Dynamics has the lead in practical application.

  • lol. your crack in the sidewalk joke riminded me of the clip of ASIMO taking an epic fall down the stairs xD

  • To raise awareness for music education is in the description. The conductor worked with the orchestra to prepare the song. Having the robot conduct shows how talented the musicians are, in the fact that they play perfectly without the actual conductor conducting. However the conductor did do all the work. Saying that a robot is conducting any ensemble will draw a bigger crowd and raise more awareness then saying a conductor is conducting any ensemble.

  • Done with a conductor...off to a pianist now...I really wish to see a robot playing piano...violin and strings would be much harder to do....but no to Japan

  • This was wonderfull! Why I'm crying? Lol!

  • Nice showing off Japan. Why dont you just solve world hunger while your at it and make us all jealous lol

  • ese robot esta..! ARRECHISIMO!!!!!!! ^.^

  • sometimes i believe that japanese are not from this planet.....they rock to much.
