The music is saying something so very, very important that we should never forget it. It is telling us things that can never be expressed in words. Beautiful!
...Some years later, Mrs. Ansonia Feathers made the arduous journey to Hodgeman County to visit the last resting place of her only daughter.
William Munny had long since disappeared with the children... some said to San Francisco where it was rumored he prospered in dry goods.
And there was nothing on the marker to explain to Mrs. Feathers why her only daughter had married a known thief and murderer, a man of notoriously vicious and intemperate disposition.
Lennie Niehaus and Angelo Badalamenti are my two favorite contemporary American film composers...They are both brilliant, and this song (by Lennie) tugs at my heartstrings, so, so much. Such simple beauty. Thank you.
Great tune - when the violins kick in at 2:05, I get chills every time - perfect ending to a great movie - another jewel in Clint's crown ! Thanks for posting this.
This is a very beautiful song, and can bring back many memories. I sit late at night and listen to music like this and just remember.Thank you for this song and this time.
I play this for my grandmother who passed away three days before my birthday two years ago. and on the third, i had to say good-bye. today is my birthday and i will always remember her, sorry to sound so depressing, but that is just how it is.
Folks, not to get personal but when I listen to this beautiful Jewel of a song it takes me back to my years as a child I shared with my brothers and sisters. I miss those years, I really do.
This simple, beautiful theme sounds very similar to Chopin's classic etude op.10 no.3, from the year 1829. Especially the trio of descending chords around the first minute, and again near the end. You can find it on you tube.
Lennie Niehaus has made some extraordinary soundtrack music. His collaboration with Clint Eastwood has produced some of the most thoughtful, stirring music you'll find.

Unforgiven is a masterpeice by the Oscar award winning Director
Clint Eastwood. He's the finest Directors around and he deserves 4 Oscars
of that marvelous western film. This music is so smoothing and heartfelt.
I LOVE IT!

I grew up on the old Eastwood westerns, but when I heard this theme, I was at a loss for words. The movie was great, too...
