  • They had the Asimov/Yellow Submarine font back in 1907?

  • I've seen a lot of movies - this has to be one of the earliest. I'm listening to Ben-Hur on the librivox audio site. What a powerful historical novel that has been repeatedly made into films - and influenced how milllions viewed Ancient Rome. It's not great literature, but....what a story!

  • This is ooold o.o

  • its funny now the Palestinians are Ben hur (being persecuted ) and the Jews are the romans eg bulldozing houses

  • Anything looks better with Ramon Novarro half naked in it!

  • If you think this version is crazy you should watch the 1876 film. The chariot race in that one took 3 months to film, 3200 people died, even extras and directors, and it cost $45,000 (2 trillion in today's dollars).

  • Please do understand that this movie was made when creating movies was at it's "alpha"

  • The film quality or entertainment value is irrelevant. It's film history.

View it as you would a Polaroid of a dinosaur: amazing that it exists.

  • @brkeys ah ha....someone who actually gets it! Yes!

  • I think this is a crap print even for its age. The fact the soundtrack is so defunct seems to indicate this.

  • IT WAS 1907 THEY WERE LUCKY IF THEY EVEN HAD ONE SHOT DONE.

SHUT UP STUPID PEOPLE STOP WATCHING IT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT SIMPLE AS THAT. NO ONE NEEDS YOUR COMMENTS JACKASSES!

  • I thought this was another "lost" film. I'm impressed with this being posted on here.

Shame that so many people can't appreciate the primitive early films. They should grow up & learn/appreciate more about the history of cinema.

  • In the cast:Janet gaynor one bit ,auso one lsave girl.

  • it looks like they are dancing thriller in the beginning probably that where Micheal got his moves from he watched this film and got inspired to make thriller

  • When videos are forcibly removed from Youtube, it translates as "We have billions / millions and we want more". Period.

  • to al bloggers: ben-hur 1925--has been deleted--because of copyright issues--i am beginning to realize that almost everything on youtube is not copyrighted--bloggers--we have got to stop this--stop stuff from being removed --we must petition stuff from being removed or soon there won't be anything to watch on youtube

  • @melollylolly petitions are for dimwits - what good do you think a lame petition would do against a legitimate copyright claim?

  • to GenghisKhan44--what in hell do you expect from 1907;fool! there were few technology for film-back then....a lot of stuff in film--hadn't even been invented yet...this film was just a few years from a nickelodeon...be real; huh?

  • Interesting is this is...

    er...

no. I do not like this at all. Perhaps it is the fuzzy quality that's distorting it, but I would hardly call what I saw on the screen "acting".

  • It's from 1907, jackass.

  • That's no excuse for poor acting and poor camera shots.

And some subtitles like they had in the 1925 version would have made this much more palatable to the viewer. We're pretty much left to fill in the dialogue in our minds without subtitles.

I might say it is good only because it is one of the few things to have been caputred on film so early in the advent of film.

  • Seriously, your jackassery knows no boundaries. Celluloid was in it's infancy in 1907. Comparing this to a 1925 movie is like comparing a Apple II to a iMac.

  • I've seen a movie from 1905 that is better than this... You almost cant see whats going on in this shit! I hate it!

  • Nobody care what you think.

  • @Lufttygger306 other ben hur version?

  • @Lufttygger306 can you give me a link to it? is it available here on yt?

  • @dancingdragonify It's called Rescued by Rover. It was made on a budget of 7 pounds, 13 shillings and 9 pence

  • @Lufttygger306 I guess you meant this one - watch?v=LlhNxHfyWTU thought you meant an earlier version of ben-hur first xD anywayz nice vid, maybe it was the inspiration to lassie?

  • @Lufttygger306 Instead of being so rude, maybe you should just go quietly elsewhere

napabar,I'd like to say thank you for making this 104 yr.old film available for silent film fans, like myself,to watch.

Also, some people(who are not idiots)will understand why this movie isn't exactly in great shape.I think it 's a sign of the times...they did the best with what they had at the time.

  • thank you for putting this up. even though it's not exactly the most technologically or artistically advanced, it's important historically and culturally.

  • The 1925 version is better...

  • Comment removed

  • Well made for 1907 standards.

  • Great, brand new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition) at amazon!

  • Now... normally i can't stand black'n'white films, but this is thge one exception, it's great!

  • very nice!

  • Great, brand new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible lIfe) at amazon. It's by Michelle Bernier!

  • 1950s ones better

  • Even the 1925 version is better than this.

  • senacional, todo una joya

  • 1959 version is the best.

  • when this movie was released it had the highest resolution of any movie at the time, at 2 by 3 pixles. Good grief... It's so grainy it could be used for food.

    Just kidding, good movie.

  • I was looking up Ben Hur upon hearing of the death of Charlton Heston. I knew there was a 1925 version which I have seen several times but had no idea that a 1907 version even existed!

  • Unbelieveble, isn't it?

This is actually more then a 100 years now!

  • WOWm that's true!

  • Siggi-Lee´s aera!

  • Fantastic....

  • this is absolutely unbelievable

  • Why is the title in the Yellow Submarine/Asimov font?

  • Maybe Yellow Submarine/Asimov fonts derive from some kind of "Jugendstil" (abt. 1900).

  • Either that, or it was tagged on in a later restoration, because it looks completely inappropriate for the film.

  • MUY BUENA

  • Hi I am a big fan of silent films, i was wondering where did you get the 1907 of ben-hur at?
