Don't know if it's true or not, but I read that Paul singing 'so long already, Artie' refered to their parting after this album. If you get a chance, take a listen to the live version on the Live 1969 album. Both Live and Studio versions are just great. On the live album, Art explains that he used to study architecture, and was a fan of FLW's work, so suggested to Paul that he wrote a song about him! An unusual assignment, yet he wrote such a great song beautifully arranged. Genius!
ha. so easy to criticize and talk badly about things without divulging what you consider "good." i would say i'd love to know what you think is good, but i'm pretty certain it sucks shit out of a straw, so i don't care, you suck.
but you do care, the reply shows this. and i thank you for that. but youre gonna have to trust me when i say this, simon & garfunkel did some cool stuff, but THIS particular song sucks. youre welcome.
ah, not quite the case, seeing that making that comment took me under a minute of my time to make. anyway, it was a dumb comment i made out of anger, but i have a strange personal investment in s&g, so i felt the need to respond.
i mean, i don't know how you can say this song sucks, rather than you just don't like it, but to each his own.
@somekid87 whether it's a minute or five, you care, otherwise you wouldnt have given it any thought. the song is bad - you'll have to trust me. when your ears have matured, get back to me - after all, youre just some kid.
@noneyerbidness you're right, i care. taking a moment to call someone out on the internet hardly qualifies as 'caring,' though i don't know why i'm trying to argue with someone whose user name has 'yer' in it, so young, so naive. oh wise one, what's a good song? dazzle me; help me grow into the music listener you've always wanted.

May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

Wait...I thought he wrote this song as a sweet gesture. I thought Art had to go elsewhere, and so Simon wrote this song in friendship.
Maybe I'm wrong. But it would be interesting to know the whole story. I love them both either way. :)
