Oh no, with all my respect to Daniels, his coloratura here is all wrong and no agility at all. A shame actually as before he could do it much better.Kowalski's version is almost perfect in comparision with this. But he doesn't sing like a little girl and doesn't even use falsetto but his natural unbroken voice. He is a countertenor. Oh my God, some people want great Handel to be spoilt by ugly Bartoli's singing with her clucking hen's technique and forced low notes who pretends she is a MAN!LOL
da questo uomo é cominciato tutto. Dopo di lui hanno cominciato a crescere come funghi una infinita generazione di uomini che non volevano piu essere tenori o baritoni ma controtenori... Ma lui era il primo, il piu grande.
@freedomgrooves dude, there is a big difference between saying "I like this guy" and saying "he's technically and stylistically accurate".
Sadly, since the beginning of those stupid talent shows, people actually think they know and understand Opera. Opera isn't pop music though. There are many aspects to it that must be considered before judging.
Daniels begins and ends the aria, that's all he does.
Listen to Podles, Horne, Mijanovic etc to hear people who SING the aria.
@eradesso I usually don't get into these little online debates but you suggested listening to a bunch of women's rendition of the song which is completely irrelevant to compare them to this wonderful counter-tenor voice
@freedomgrooves and again you prove you don't understand much of opera.
A role or an aria isn't sung by a fach, it is sung by someone who can cope with what is written on the score and do justice to it.
Danies HAD a beautiful instrument when he used to sing what his instrument could cope with.
I was not comparing, I was pointing out how it is supposed to be sung and what it is supposed to SOUND like. If everyone reasoned like you, well let Daniels sing Lucia di Lammermoor.
This is just fantastic ... The virtuosity, the ornaments added, the dialog with the trumpet ... Even if Mr Daniels is not able to sing like this today, he made his place in history with this ...
One of the fun things about our moment musically is the emergence of all the great countertenors. This shows the richness of the human voice, and especially of the richness of the male voice and "the many modalities of masculinity." How's that for a phrase?
On peut peut être affirmer qu'il y a quelques restes de ce que fut cette voix, mais c'est vraiment tiré, très décoloré, acide et très approximatif dans les vocalises;
amazing voice!

I love how the trumpetplayer copies his improvisation in the da capo. Sounds cool and makes it more interesting.

he is a good singer but I have to be honest
is very strange a man that size singing like a lil girl

@RonaldBarone Little girls dont sing Händel like this. He uses his falsetto. Girls/Women don't do that.

Even if Daniels is not at his best here, try just to sing like him, then criticize.
antonnikitich 2 years ago 9
well if i sang like this trust me i wouldn't be very happy lol
besides, do you need to be Manet to appreciate or dislike Monet???
Music is a science, you execute it well or not. It is objective to hear and anything else you say is useless and pointless.
I'm entitled to my opinion whether you like it or not. Period.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
horrible. too tired, no colour, bad coloratura, seems like a very poor breath support too.

totally agree it seems theres only space for people who dislike good music here... if not your commentary would be valued...

If Mr Daniels was in normal shape that day, this is another sad proof of the fact that the peak in countertenors' careers is often a short one...

Ist zwar wunderbar gesungen, das Tempo erscheint mir allerdings etwas zu schnell!
Es grenzt schon an Gesangsakrobatik, was Herr Daniels uns hier präsentiert. - Gratulation!

Did you see his "Dove sei, amato bene" (Rodelinda)? He does such a great job, I can't help but feel so-o-o-o sorry for him!
Actually I copied some of his embellishments.
