  • I had no idea that this song had a name! Anyways, Elmer is pretty darn good at fiddle, good for him.

  • He sure is a joy to watch play!

  • I think it's because he takes so much pleasure from it.

We played this evening and Elmer just seems to get better. I know he really does sit around the house practicing and working things up.

  • It's amazing what is being preserved in such an unlikely way. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thanks for the comment. I enjoy Elmer's playing more all the time.

  • Nice bowing.

Whereabouts is he from? And, is your jam strictly oldtime? I ask because bluegrass has become so pervasive that it crowds out old time jams, or the oldtime players end up having to accomodate the bluegrassers in order to keep-a-goin.

  • Elmer is from the Morgantown area. He wasn't out and about in the music scene all that much until around 2000, but I'll bet you play a tune that comes from his uncle, Sanford Rich.

I'd say the jam is old time; certainly not bluegrass style, but probably not what you'd usually hear at Augusta or Clifftop. Like most of the older musicians, Elmer plays a whole range of things including old tunes from his family, but also lots of stuff that was on the radio and records when he was a kid.
