  • I don't like her apoligizing at the end because everything she said was right....

  • Comment removed

  • I don't like the character of Claire because she always sounds rude and mean

  • People r so stupid , saying she is an Obama lover . Damn , people this show ended in 2005 .. How come she is a Obama lover ?

Claire got so mature during the show , I love Her so much .

  • Love this scene.

  • True statement about Americans and Their gas? Not really theirs...never was.

  • What a powerful scene! Claire was probably the coolest character in any TV series.

  • wow what a powerful scene, SFU is the greatest show of all time

  • As great as Lauren Ambrose is in this scene i can't help but feel for the mother she is yelling at. This is actually a very embarrassing moment for Claire. She doesn't realize this women's son lost his limbs in the war and then committed suicide while she lecturing them about soldiers and the war.

All time foot in mouth moment.

  • she drives a gas guzzler too

  • @omid11 she drives a Prius stupid

  • if this was real, i woulda slapped a bitch!!!!!!

  • Insensitive Hollywood bullshit.

Funny how the left wing wackos all ignore the deaths still occuring daily under Obama's orders.

Hollywood supports bombs that have a 'D' on them but not an 'R' on them.

They are ALWAYS just 'acting' in their pretend world.

  • @bnaguy Maybe there are still the deaths under Obama's presidency, but did you even think that he had to manage a fucking messed up situation because of George fucking Bush ?! This war will end soon. The president you voted for twice is responsible for a huge fucked up situation ! Because of this war there were terrorists attacks in Madrid, in London, in Moscow, just because our countries need gas ! This scene is so real and true about all this shit ! SFU is a fucking piece of art !

  • Such a great scene ! It's incredible how crazy this monologue is ! It sums up the whole fucking bullshit american government said for last 10 years !

The scene at her work when she's totally fucked up is pretty enormous too !

  • Granted, tis "drunk or high", but i agree.

  • *Cheers*

  • personally i think that lauren ambrose is... a very good fucking actor because that's hard work to totally let go and handle a scene like that with so much anger and confrontation & she pulls it off so distinctly and perfectly that you just get drawn in to her... to me she's more than someone just on a tangent i think she sounds quite logical, i dunno. thats why i dont look elsewhere on tv to compare, nothing will ever ever ever top six feet under.

  • Claire, you are the best!!! I love you!!!

  • Claire = pure pwnage.

  • I love you Claire, i love you! Why can't i find a girl like you! shit!

  • thanks for putting this up!

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this particularly scene. Claire's freak outs are always great, but this one tops them all. It's so perfectly scripted, directed and acted, and lauren completely nails it.

"...and the best thing she can think to do about it is put a sticker on that enormous shitbox!" perfect!

  • such an amazing performance by ms ambrose... great actress, great scene, great show.

  • This scene takes my fucking breath away, Lauren's acting is INCREDIBLE. I once went on a rant almost identical to hers in this scene. God, she is incredible. <3

  • Amazing actress, she's fantastic in this scene.

  • Am I the only one who wasn't COMPLETELY aroused by that scene! Claire is so passionate and cool, if only there were more women like her in the world! ok im only half serious there as she was still out of line but admit it, a lot of you really would love to do that to someone who drives an SUV with a "support our troops" sticker on it.

  • Comment erased by douche

  • she IS right you know

  • I don't blame her for acting irrationally while drunk. When she sobered up, and matured, she married a conservative. Incidentally, a great performance by Lauren Ambrose.

  • Your commented reminded me of this quote:

"If you're young and not liberal, you have no heart. If you're old and not conservative, you have no mind."

  • my god she really grew as an actress troughout the whole series. she's really is remarkable in here, such a great monologue

  • I completely agree, this is such a fantastic scene.

I also really like how immediately after Rico tells her that this woman's brother just died, she goes, "I'm sorry... I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Too bad it's not in this clip. A very real scene.

  • Yes, which is a very good point because the whole reason Claire is so distraught is because of losing Nate.

Also, the younger woman's brother died because he lost all his arms & legs in Iraq, and wanted to commit suicide. The younger woman was actually asking questions of her own about the war throughout the episode.

  • Hah, this is why I like Claire.

  • 0:48 I LOVE CLAIRE!!!!

  • Great performance by Lauren Ambrose -- I could literally feel my blood boil while watching this scene. She portrays the raging liberal perfectly. Unfortunately, people with the type of mentality which her character displays here, are found all over campuses. More positive ideas are starting to influence the culture though, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

  • "Unfortunately, people with the type of mentality which her character displays here, are found all over campuses."

and you still have not told us why Claire's reasoning is flawed. Seems to me a pretty accurate analysis what really is going on and PLEASE do not rebutt the secret service is to blame.

  • This is a pretty good analysis, where the commentator logically points out the fallacies of the socialist critique of free markets.

    watch?v=c5uJgG05xUY

  • HowTheWorldWorks? HowTheWorldWorks?! I have been leaving refuting comments on his channel for months. Then he decided to block me although I have been courteous and have been waiting for an answer.

Please, why are you searching for Six Feet Under Tags if you are a conservative? I studied economics but am an economic skeptic not a neoliberal drone.

  • I'm not a conservative, and I'm a big fan of the show -- particularly of the actor Michael C. Hall. I'm a classic liberal/market liberal atheist, and a very principled one at that. I have no time, nor interest, in debating economic issues through short YouTube messages however. HowTheWorldWorks presented a good critique, though of course one needs to study economy and figure things out for oneself.

  • To refute the Story of Stuff does not take a Ph.D. in any discipline, I concur. However only very few liberals would agree what is being said there.

    My point is:

Iraq was an oil adventure among other things such as creating "critical leverage" in the Middle East. Read Chomsky on the subject.

  • I love claire!!!

  • Comment removed

  • What are you talking about? Where in her monologue does she speak about socialism? If anything, she is promoting energy independence and the freedom of the press. I believe you read your talking points memo wrong - go back and try again.

  • You're drawing absurd conclusions from your own interpretation. She simply states it as it is, and heck if someone dares do that without the bravado of American good will attached to it, they must be a 'socialist'.

Yes I do very much believe she's in favour of totalitarian islamic regimes. Whereas you're in favour of the slaughter of 50,000 innocent Iraqis.

Why hasn't America flushed out all the corruption in Africa if everything if they are truly the forces of freedom.

    Oil

    Oil

    Oil

  • "spits on the heroism of american soldiers" - fancy, hyperbolic (not to mention false) diction doesn't fly here. This is youtube. Maybe you should try for a place in American Government. You could be the next George W. Bush.

    Your arrogance astounds.

and you gotta love american consumerism

Support Our troops stuck onto that massive 4 x 4 vehicle, sums it up well.

    This is your capitalism.

  • I just wanna say one think. say thanks you don't live in Zimbabwe, Gaza, Darfur or anywhere else where evil and islamism is a part of everything. the invasion to Iraq was only needed (imo) to make Saddam fall. and he was the (second-third) devil of this century. following to Hitler. the reason you don't have terrorist attacks in the USA is there because of those troops. believe it or not, my bleeding heart friends.

  • yeh because those guys thousands and thousands of miles away separated by vast amounts of land and an ocean are so easily able to commit terrorist attacks. are you stupid?

George Bush was presented with a document about how terrorists had planned to use aircraft for an attack but he ignored.

    No sir,

believe me, the genocide of 1 million Iraqis, yes, is only going to lead to even more animosity from the middle east . First you go after the communists, then the 'gooks', now the muslims.

  • You wanna way one "think"? LOL

  • As an immature child... hmm. Could this be because shes fucking DRUNK!? I don't know about you, but for some reason I think being drunk affects a person's behavior. Am I crazy to think that?

  • having your older brother die also affects a person's behaviour, asshole. And seeing two bitches driving an enourmous vehicle around that consumes that much gas, RIGHT after their loved one just died for oil.... well that kind of ruthless hippocracy affects a persons behaviour too. It ought to.

  • Jesus christ calm down I'm on Claire's fucking side. I'm perfectly aware that that would affect a person's behavior. I'm saying that saying she's immature is a stupid thing to judge especially when you don't know this character and especially when the character is fucking drunk.

  • Oh good god, you're so fucking sad...

  • @JMartins1981 Socialist? I didn't hear one pro-government statement anywhere in that monologue. It was all anti-establishment. So, if energy independence is a socialist value, by your rationale does that mean Republicans SUPPORT dependence on middle eastern countries for oil? Because if you hate socialists and view energy independence as a socialist value, then you're confirming the opposite - burning dinosaur drippings imported from countries that hate us - as a conservative value. Way to go!

  • @JMartins1981 you are an idiot. Watch the whole show then talk

  • @JMartins1981 YOU SUCH A FUCKEN DUMBASS.

  • @JMartins1981 that's not the point of the scene. claire's brother recently died and she became an alcoholic to deal with it, and constantly self-destructed and hurt those around her. the scene was to show how far she was starting to spiral out of control. it's not meant to be political, it was meant to show character development. if you would watch the series you would understand how powerful this scene is. and i don't even know wtf socialism has to do with anything. lol fox news rhetoric

  • claire is my favorite character from six feet under :D

and even though it's from a script..

    that's soo true

  • This clip is from 4 years ago and everything she says is still happening.

  • "Enormous shitbox"

  • I love Claire!

  • le meilleur des passages!! J'adore!

  • The young woman who plays the sister of the deceased...she's getting into the vehicle as Claire is screaming at her....was Michael C. Hall's (David) wife at the time.

  • Weird. He's so convincing as the David character that it didn't occur to me he's not really gay.

  • LOL!!!!!!

  • Great scene.

  • What does this guys shiut at the end? I dont understand... he speaks tooo fast.

  • Rico?? He said "shut the hell up, her brother just died". Her brother was a soldier. That's all I'll say as people who haven't watched the show yet seem to get pissed if you reveal anymore storyline.

  • lol. No problem but thx a lot for helping me. it is more coherent now... lol . Thx XD

  • LOL, No problem. I will say that the circumstances surrounding that whole episode are quite interesting. Claire was also drunk ....I guess that's obvious huh?

  • Jesus, Claire rocks, asshole!

  • I've never supported anything and I'm not patriotic but I like this show.

  • Put a sticker on that enormous shit box... classic. OMG. She is the funniest character on any television series.

  • ~ Phil Hendrie, a big troop supporter, has a great 'commentary' on this very topic on one of his old radio shows. See 'Show Archives', 4/21/04, 1st segment. Tis worth the cost alone of a monthly subscription. And, scene. Freedom.

  • Support our SUV's

  • i don't think the soldiers should be the target. they are victims, too. it's the government and the politicians controlling them, taking advantage of these soldiers to their interests. it's so sad to see that everything in America is structured for the rich and powerful to exploit the weak and powerless

  • she apologized in the end, didn't she.

  • It makes you a brave honorable man who is either completely ignorant to the crisis concerning oil or completely careless.

Doing good doesn't cancel out the bad.

  • these two countries have about 35% of world's proven oil and only 0.5% of world's population. they can afford to keep their oil prices at that level. the point is, WE don't have enough oil for everyone in the world. so we need to minimize our oil usage.

  • Look at Davids face at 1:01, he's totally like "ugggghhhhhhhh wtf?........."

  • I have a Jeep, does that make me a "bad man?"

  • um, yea.

  • not if you have an enormous family that require such a large gas-guzzling form of transportation. but if it's just you, then yeah. it makes you selfish.

  • my old roommate preached about how eco friendly she was but she drove an suv

  • I thinks of this scene everytime I see an SUV with a "support the troops" bumpersticker slapped on it. $4.00 a gallon (and rising) gas. You idiots deserve it.

  • i want a girlfriend like her... jajajaja

  • You go,Claire! Tell us how you really feel!!!

  • Excellent writing on this show. Always & forever.

  • one of the best scenes in the show. i love claire

  • It´s kind of weird to hear an American say words like that. Europeans have got used somehow to the thought that everyone in America loves President Bush and supports his expensive war rides at oversea places to "protect their country", just as "every American" has 25 guns under his bed and never cares about anything much further away than their own property.

  • actually, most people are starting to really distrust bush and his administration.

  • yes, i've noticed during trips in Europe that Europeans are susceptible to that kind of knee-jerk thinking about Americans. it's kind of sad, since Europeans tend to credit themselves with being the most open-minded. which is laughable when you look at the history of where racism and classism come from. the truth is that about 80% of Americans think that Bush is doing a terrible job. remember that he didn't even win his first election in the popular vote... the election was stolen to begin with.

  • i wouldn't generalise like that. There are, and always will be conflicting worldviews both within, and between countries. The point is, somehow one view will be victorious and have 'real' power, whilst the other will simply vanish or remain an unused alternative.

Even if there is such a thing as 'Europe', there is no 'european' alternative. Racism is ubiquitous, and not a 'european' invention.

  • love her

  • one of my top favourite SFU moments. "preach it girl!" :D

  • Amen Claire Fisher... Amen.

  • Hey,

A LOT of us didn't vote for him, never did vote for him and can't stand him. Don't think it's all or even "most" Americans..."many" of us will agree that he's a very bad man!

I see your point and all...I'm just saying...I feel like we all get a bad rap but it's a long way from all of us.

  • That is so true, but when so many people don't vote it is just as bad. Most who voted did so for him (the second time). If those registered voters were so against him, they should have voted against him.

  • Loved this scene. So fuckin' true. This show is so amazing.

  • WooooHooooo!!!! Tellit like it is Baby!!! I LOVE It!!!

  • I loved this scene . . *adds to favorites

  • The most sincere TV scene ever!!

  • GO CLAIRE!

    Poor Claire...

  • She's right!!!

  • This was one of the BEST episodes of SFU ("Static"). So many raw, effective scenes.

  • Then comes :

"She seems like she's on drugs.

    - Yeah, she usually is."

  • Great scene

  • Tell it Claire. Time to let it all out, anyway you can.

  • In vino veritas.

  • Wait a minute. Doesn't Claire drive a big-ass green hearse around in this show? How fuel-efficient is that tank?

  • That's true, but that thing is like a hudred yrs old,and I bet she couldn't afford new wheels because she couldn't lay her hands on the college trust fund her father left for her . But it seems that the lady has a brand new expedition which means she has money which in turn means that she could've chosen sth more fuel efficient.

  • I love how they capture the raw emotions we all can feel when we lose someone; great acting by all the cast of this show!

  • and each time is as powerful as the first.

  • e x a c t l y .

  • i watch this everyday...

  • son of a bitch...I've given that very speech several times in just the same mental state...one of rage and frustration and contempt for those ribbon tying morons in their SUV's.

  • A whole lot of people in this world don't understand the broader consequences of their everyday actions.

"What does my energy consumption have to do with a war on the other side of the world?"

  • I love claire!this part was my first encounter with six feet under.i stopped watching(since I knew it was one of the last episodes)and got me all the seasons and watched every episode.I loved it.This is still one of my favorite parts.I totally agree with her. When I went to the states I was shocked by the amount of cars carrying "Support our troops"stickers.Outrageous!!!

  • oi man, i totally agree with ya, shes done gone and said everything we americans never say.

  • wow, this scene is PERFECT.

i love how lauren [claire] gets into that spirit and character...wow...just speechless...

we miss you SIX FEET UNDER [2001-2005]

  • Hahaha! That is too true! Rid the world of SUV's!! And go Hydrogen!!

  • Ohh I loved so much Claire in this season... She's totally amazing...

  • LOL she makes some great points!!!! I Love claire though!!! lol

  • i hear you

  • expand that scene from individuals that are mourning their lost ones to peoples that are mourning their lost ones. loss makes you crazy, and pain is the nerve of war.

claire's role was definitely written according to a "bitch" frame however. the actress is so good - all the actors' good

  • i love claire

  • weather claire was right or wrong..it raised issues and got everyone talking about it..good for her!!

  • Okay, she kicked serious political ASS. Got to hand it to her, hands down. Maybe if that was George Bush she freaked out on instead of that poor family who lost their son... Yeah, she got out of line on that one. But then again, she still rocks...!

  • Does anyone realise that for 95% of the show, she drove a 22 ft long Cadillac hearse, which gets about 8 mpg? I know because I own 2 hearses. I love Claire, but sometimes she can be a hypocrite.

  • but it looks so awesome ;)

  • True that

  • She's not a hypocrite because she wasn't the one with a "support our troops" bumber sticker.

  • that car was also given to her. I doubt she could have had the money to purchase her first car on her own. When she was financially able to purchase a car, she bought a prius. I don't think she was at all hypocritical.

  • If she really had a problem with the milage of the car she easily could have sold it for a good chunk of money and bought a civic or something. She seemed to like it well enough to cry when she flipped it. I'm only playing devil's advocate here, I love old cars (especially hearses).

  • Claire is so childish sometimes. But that's what makes her character compelling.

  • I think everybody needs to see this.

  • That was kewl!!

    i love Claire.

  • Claire has good points, but it was so hard to watch b/c of the given situation...you know, with the grieving family. Great acting!

  • If you see this scene in the context of the episode, it really showed Claire's childish insensitivity. This woman's brother got his legs blown off in Iraq and committed suicide in the hospital. The last thing she needed to hear was a political speech from some drunk brat. Even if Claire was right, that wasn't the place for it.

  • Claire for President! I used this scene as a soundclip on my 2005 End Of The Year Review compilation. It was also used by Peter Bogdan in "Shortcuts" for 2005 (look up his podcasts).

  • AMEN!

  • Just because she's RIGHT
