  • This is not rammed earth.

    It's cob (although with no straw).

    For rammed earth you pack gently moist earth down hard with some kind of ram or hammer in thin layers.

    For the kind of construction they're doing you use a sloppy wet mixture, and slap or mold it on in the thick layers (courses) they're doing, and when it dries it sets hard like concrete and is very strong (stands up to earthquakes a lot better than mud brick)
