yeah you can use autocad or solidworks for the job, and have to pay several hundered dollars for the program and a licence when google sketchup is free to download and use, and while can be a little touchier then inventor or solidworks is fully usable
can you make a better video than this one explaining how you design a plane from start to finish? I know its a lot to ask but I think it would be invaluable us that want to learn how to use google sketchup
hey cool planes. I was wondering if you could make a video on how you make one of these planes from the beginning and also tell me what type of foam it is you make these planes out of
@aatspeed90 he makes it out of depron, the skeleton is made up of carbon fibers which provide the strength to depron without compromising with weights.
Great info, I am a user of solidworks and yes, for doing some simple foldable plans could be tedious. Gonna try this "ketchup" thing and see how it goes. Thanks for the great videos!
@Imbefuddeled well each have their own method but depending on how one use it ... it could be pretty effective if u prefer the higher tech stuff then thats what u prefer but if u prefer the low tech stuff then thats ok too as long as it works
You guys are awesome! I have been working on a "foamy" for about a week now in Sketchup and was wishing I had some servo and motor dimensions. Having the models for those parts already made is very helpful. Thanks.
Try pro engineer. Key tech (and pioneer middle school for Cad) use it to create digital objects. I recomend you get the school version cause the real one takes up 20 something computers I'm working on the B-2 spirit bomber right now. Messed up a little so it'll probably look like someone in india trying to make a replica of what they heard it looks like (and do a very good job visualizing it)

I have used it on and off for a while and am trying to get good, I am going to try just sitting down and trying over and over, do you think it will work?
can you show us some tings on google sketchup? i have it but i have so much trouble working with it. so far i have only been able to make some kinda cool looking lightsabers. lol
@rccrazer There are tons of video tutorials on the Google website. On the Sketchup page go to the training section and click on video tutorials. There are also quite a few videos here on YouTube.
I have a model almost finished and id like to send it though email so you could give me some tips on it.

Sketchup is really nice, but it can get really annoying sometimes when you delete a surface and can't make it come back. lol

You should do a tutorial on designing planes in sketchup

Tried using it but had problems with the below. Can you do a walk thru on these points?
-Tracing 3 views
-Figuring out how to get the tabs to fit together
-Unflatten
Thanks!

The one thing that makes Sketchup worth trying is the price. Free versus thousands of dollars. There are also many free tutorials.

@Nintendo101maniac @dontcare80 the free version is v.7.0 and will not open the files here, need version 8.0
Kitemasters 1 year ago
@Kitemasters Nope, you can get 8.0 for free as well.
I wish I could get version 7 back, I upgraded to 8 before I realized that I would loose the ability to import AutoCAD files, it's sort of maddening.
idontcare80 1 year ago
@idontcare80 not for 8 hours of unlimited use. ?? i use rhino btw the best :)
Kitemasters 1 year ago
@Kitemasters I think you can try Sketchup Pro for 8 hours, but the base version of Sketchup is free for unlimited use.
