  • i actually like the sugababes version they sampled the beat, and wrote their own lyrics they changed the meaning because they cant talk about the same thing as ernie cuz hes a guy. they are females so they made the song about them duh! i honestly like this one better but props for the babes for making it cool as well

  • Does Ernie say "the Philly steak, I could leave or take" at one point? Being a Philadelphia native, I would appreciate the local shout out in this brilliant song. :-)

  • the sugababes can suck it!!

  • I adore this song :D xx

  • Boots made him eventhough it was decades later

  • "Instrumental by The Meters" !

aaaah... i get it now... that's why this song is so damn sexy ! :D

  • this is alot better than the sugababes this is proper soul!

  • good i love old beats ;)

  • The original and best version ! ! Why did that UK pop act do such a rubbish version and change the meaning. (I deliberately didn't name them).

  • The original and best version ! ! Why did that UK pop act do such a shit version and change the meaning. (I deliberately didn't name them).

  • absolute tune ..

  • lovely

  • Pure tune by far better then any modern versions.

  • It's not weird, it's proper black music which you DONT KNOW ABOUT!!!

  • This song is weird...random...GREAT!!!!!!! love it!

  • I just attended a pretty glitzy wedding in which the lady attendants were ushered in to this classic. It was wonderfully fitting and fun, as the girls flitted their skirts as they passed down the aisle.

  • I think this version is better. The Sugarbabes one is too millenial, too dance inspired. I love how he slides into his head voice on the second girls and the instruments are so much more distinctive.

  • The original is way better than the one that the women sing.

  • sugababes' version is so much better than this one... i'm gay :P

  • @nico92stronger So am I bro but I have to disagree.

The sugababes, their voices are so WHINY to me, man, it sounds like one, long, musical complaint.

IT's like "UUUUURGH SHUTUP AND START SINGING" But they never do, just lots of whining noises D:

  • Original & best, by far ;o)

  • great song for my favourite part of humans-the girls

  • ich maaaaaaaaaaaaag

  • makes me proud to be from Louisiana

  • Original and best. Sorry Sugababes. Can't believe Boots adopted the rubbish version for their advertising campaign.

  • I really don't like the sugababe's version! I wish Boots would use this version more in their ads

  • I Loove that song!

  • I HATE THE SUGABABES ONE, IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!

    This one's much better!

  • this is the ultimate best version! but i dont even kno' why i like it i just listen to it cuz it sounds good ;D

  • LOL

  • Top Summer Tune!!

  • Infectious tune.

  • the sugababes murdered it

  • coool song

  • I love the trumpets in this song (or trombones if thats what they are.

  • Fantastic, awesome, love it, far better than the Sugababes version...

  • I am surprised that this song wasn't a hit in the U.S, The song is funky and on point.

  • sweet!

  • I can't believe that this wasn't a hit back in 1970. The song is so funky and fresh.

  • to vegichi3 and theoneandonlySS1995 i agree with what you both say....why did the sugarbitches have to ruin a perfectly good tune????? Another example is when they talentlessly molested 'walk this way' ....of course originally by run dmc!!

  • to vegichi3 and theoneandonlySS1995 i agree with what you both say....why did the sugarbitches have to ruin a perfectly good tune????? Another example is when they talentlessly molested 'walk this way' ....of course originally by run dmc!!

  • i really dont like to hate but them sugartits really did murder this.ernie k. doe is the man!

  • im gay because of this song

  • Or just cos you like it up the shitter?

  • I like both versions, but "Original Is Always The Best" is my religion. ;)

  • great song 5*

  • They paid to cover/sample this song. It's not the same as stealing.

  • It's not about 'stealing', though obviously there's enough of that around in the world of sampling. It's about creativity, artistry and musicianship. You can't buy that you have to earn it.

  • @MartinK777 in much the same way there's a difference between prostitution and rape :p

  • Its easy to steal someones tune and add bits to it, sounds ok...but its ERNIES tune, end of.

  • @fourthwind1 - yeah, easy when you just cut it, loop it, and add drums to it. anyone can do that. but there are many levels to achieve, and when you reach a certain point, it becomes an artform that requires refined skills, talent, an ear for what works and what doesn't, and an extensive knowledge of the fundamentals paired with the ability to execute them. sorta like...any instrument. end of.

  • the sugababes version is shit!! simple as that!!!

  • @Darylthegloberunner1 Ab-so-bloody-lutely!

  • Keep it real.

  • This is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than the SB version. This was the original on the advert but then they swapped it and I just smh.

  • HILLLLLTOP HOOOOODS!!!!!!

  • must give props to boots for digging up a tune like this!! The sugarbabes version is not a patch on this, but the chrorus is still annoying catchy

  • @ezeepcbcn yeah but sugarbabes are kinda crappy

  • Amen!

  • Tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune!

  • Thanks! wanted to know who sung this original version. Is this the Ernie K. Doe who sung the 1961 hit Mother in Law?

  • Yes

  • dis is much better than sugababes shitty version

  • why did sugababes have to ruin a good song? :(

  • bcos boots paid them a heap of money

  • boots is using the original version now lol

  • damn! you is so right my friend!!!!

  • I never knew there was an original..... sounds a million times better than Sugababes. How do they get away with it! The Boots ad is soooo annoying as well.

  • Blimey big up Boots (or their ad agency) for having the veritable funk to dig up a 'propa choon' like this. I thought that people working in corporates were all dry-arse Timothies. Gard damn! The tune is wicked. Never even heard of this bloke. Till twelve seconds ago had assumed it was James Brown singing. I'm clearly not as down with the kids as I'd thought I was.

  • "It's a doggone shame that they couldnt all be mine"

Who could afford that though, really :P

  • Boots have ruined this tune for me. I hate it when corporate f****ers do that.

  • The fact that its on the boots advert for a chemist in the uk is kind of annyoing. I can't really listen to it anymore..

  • @PeterGentsChannel - I agree with you. The Sugababes' version completely kills it too! :(

  • THE DON ! ODB x

  • god damn it i fucking love this song, big up ernie k doe

  • what a great song this is sure to get any party started

  • so glad the boots ad brought this song to my attention! love it!

  • fuck yeah! (and fuck the sugarbabes)

  • so much better than the sugababes version, well no surprise there really

  • Trust the sugarbabes to steal this guys thunder. All in the name of making a quick buck. Fuck I hate modern crappy commercial shit. Fuck the sugarbabes. Rock on Ernie K!

As is often said - Original is best! Big up to Ernie K! :)

  • Fuck off if you thought the original version was by the Sugababes. =/

  • yeah,Boots did somewhat take the shine off of this classic.

I thought the sugarbabes version of it sucked beyond all belief!

  • This is soooooooooooooooooooo cool

  • look deep on you tube and yu may find lots of songs sung today by modern groups and bands were sung decades before ago :) , makes you tube interesting

  • I thought the original was from the Sugababessss.. Im dumb D:

  • no ur not, i thought that too. ive never heard this version before.

  • i thought it too

  • You say you're dumb,. hm, honest too. How refreshing.

  • mad song

  • I so love this song. So frickin' good!

  • way better than the recent cover!

  • this was a good song....until BOOTS ruined it

  • yeah gave them dumb ugly hoes the idea to fuckin ruin the song with their BUTTERS version fuck sugahoes!

  • Is this the original?

  • Yes!

  • best version of this song by miles

  • Fierce version!! Lovin it!!

  • This is the best version of the song. Sugababes version is poor, and just wanted to cash in with the popularity of the Boots adverts.

  • agreed.what a cheap copy!

  • This is such a funky song and I love dancing to it... Here come the girls!

  • I love this song.

  • reminds me off christmas :-) :-)

  • gud track

  • its great song i was singing it today in music

  • love this

  • Wow, I never heard this song before. It is hot.

  • great track - love this!

  • anyone know the bass tabs for this song

  • great song from the New Orleans master Alain Toussaint. one of the greatest all-time songwriter. Earnie also sings so well, i love this.

  • LOVE IT!!

  • lol one of the boots adverts has been viewed more than this

  • And that's always the way it is with music. Credit where it's due is rarely given and it makes my heart sad..seriosuly, it's wrong.

  • this one is so much better than the sugababes =D

  • i couldnt agree with u more, the suga\babes one sucks cock just like them. this one is timeless

  • As original versions always are...especially when they're covered by teeny bopper girl bands!! Check out anything from this era by Allen Toussaint or the Meters for a real taste of what New Orleans funk was all about!

  • FUNKAYYYY <3

  • That is a sooo good song...!!! :D

  • classic

  • thats damn good advertising... I think of boots everytime i hear this

  • like ya

  • This is the real one

  • my dance class are doing an army kind dance to this on pointe, its way better than the original

  • Original ??? Before Ernie ???

  • I believe this is the original...and best!

  • In THIS instance,.. ORIGINAL IS BEST,.. Need I say more?

  • nope :)

  • totaly agree

  • awesome song

  • tune

  • Humm... I like this song.

Anyway, there's a bunch of people trashing Sugababes, saying this version is better, that they ruined the song and so on and so on. But the truth is that even after the boots ad half of the people commenting that on here only got to really know this song and search for it after they covered/sampled it.

  • this is the song u wud sing if as group of girls was coming towards u no doubt

  • I can't believe someone said that the sugerbabes version was better, this is a timeless classic...

  • @CSME123 The Sugababes version is not as gopd as this...the music on the Sugababes version is ok, with the bass, but their voices are a bit dull

  • Look at it this way, will the sugababes be getting played in 20 years time and will people be covering their songs. This is timeless, a classic. The soul seems to be missing from commercial music these days, it's all about image. These people have so much talent, why aren't they writing songs as good as this?

  • So much better than the Suga who's

  • Nearly one year on and 200,000 views! Thanks guys!

  • Thank YOU for putting it up!

  • Original and the best.

  • The sugababes need to be lined up against the wall and have mouldy pies thrown at them for ripping off this wonderful song!!! I bet EKD is spinning in his grave!!!

  • this rocks

  • THIS IS SHIt, SUGA BABES RULEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLOLLLOOLOKO

  • Ok guys, you know what to do...

  • i don't, what do i do? WHAAATTT?

  • nah man original is always the best. for this song anyways :D i heard this on an advert :P

  • lol me to!

somethin for hair i think it was^^

  • LMAO

  • the sugarbabes trashed this song

  • So true!

  • this is soo good lol the orginals always the best!

  • tune!

  • True that!

This song rocks the no talent ass clowns that are the Sugar Babes really messed it up good and proper!

    Losers!

  • i don't beleive this guy allowed sugababes to destroy a perfectly good song into another cheap rip off of an orginal!

  • i think this is the better song

cos the sugarbabes just repeat the great version

i think this is the better 1

  • ya're totally right!!!

  • as hes dead i doubt hes too bothered about it

  • He didn't allow it, he's dead!

  • can't believe the sugababes were allowed to murder this song, fuckin cunts. this is the one, how dare they think they can even match it 0.000001%

  • Yeh I totally agree! The Sugababes version is rubbish!

  • No way!!! more like 0% lol

  • the sugarbabes made me sick before but now...

  • yeh dis 1 is way bettah

  • I agree the original is a million times better.

  • they stole it off this man, wicked tune!

  • Original is 10times better. Tops.

  • One of the best songs I've ever heard...

  • Must admit i didnt know this version at all!

But thks to the Sugababes Ive got the opportunity to know this, and I find it quite good ^^

  • the original is soooo much better than the sugababes one :D

  • oh how i love this song - it sems to be played everytime i switch on the t.v. - ads, "this morning" , loose women...the trouble is i jump up and start dancing to it as if i have been hypnotised. when it was on the radio at work my colleague was quite concerned. i am a 45 yr old man.

  • na the original version all the way!!

this song is stuck in my head 24/7!!!!

really starting to pee me off lol

    good tune

  • ripped off by a teeny bop outfit, whats even worse is, they had to rip it off a boots commercial because otherwise would never have heard it............is there no shame ?

suprised they didnt rip off california soul after hearing it on a fucking KFC ad !

keep your ears peeled girls, there are many breaks out there still to rip off though youll have to wait for an advert to use it first

    what a fucking embarresment

  • i disagree. entirely. although i appreciate your sentiment. quite simply this is a great tune. and however people hear about new music is a good thing. if it made 2 people buy this album, or start broadening their musical taste, then it was all worth while. love the music and stop the pretention. spread the love! ;)

  • Original...and by far the best!!

  • THEY DID! but i like the new one still but i say original always better!

  • did the sugababes change the lyrics to this song?

  • yeh but they kinda needed to really, couldn't really sing the lyrics of the original! haha
