I thought it then, and still do today, that at this time in music history, no two lead guitar players sounded better than Neal and Carlos. And if a pair came close, Greg made me still choose his guys!
This is volcanic! Santana III is in many ways my favourite album of theirs and a lot of it is due to the twin guitar interplay. Schon is barely out of high school and already you can see his greatness. Rolie just owns it too. Tracks like this are the ones that made me a huge fan.
Love it! I was noticing the days in this clip-the crowds sat down cross legged and were polite. It's not an American crowd but we were good audiences then. Now when i go to a show even with seating eveyone stands, hoots hollers, gets wasted drunk. Even the photog tries to stay out of the way. Man I loved this period of Santana, the Schon Santana guitars weaving between the polyrhythms...
What an amazing clip! Look how young those guys are. Neal looks like he's 12. And check out the vintage equipment they're using---huge amps, real B3 and Rhodes, Leslie cabinet---fantastic!
@governorgilf Damn right man, they always had good instruments! I totally agree that the Hammond B3 with the leslie cabinet is awesome! By the way, dou you know the song called Hope You're Feeling Better in Abraxas? Awesome song!
@Devadip47 Yeah, "Hope You're Feeling Better" is a great song! I'd forgotten about that one. Now I'm going to go look it up and listen to it. Thanks for reminding me of it!
What came first, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed or Jungle Strut.? Bet Santana hates this is out. Schon gets no mention on any of the Santana albums he played on. Blows Carlos away these days. This is the tune I discovered Schon from. Heard his solo and thought, holy shit, who is that. At the time never heard anything like it. and he was 16-18. After Late Night, and Pool lost track.
Whoever put this clip up should get the Nobel Prize for music and video!!!

The finest version of the Santana band before Carlos went off the deep end and drove everyone away. Devadip......please.

@sitarro55555 That and the Les Pauls sound a whole lot better than his Paul Reed Smiths.
