  • 4:49 Black Night by Deep Purple

  • i love it how he can just lose himself in his improvisations! I lose myself watching them too! ...

  • I hope there's a NAMM 2012 Guthrie video up at some point...

  • i ate breakfast with guthrie at namm :B

  • @jkdjkckg your eyes decieve you.

  • I've watched this video so many times I always know the exact point to jump to where Guthrie starts playing again!

  • Gutrie is a master, i would love to hear him play some great tunes. Reminds me of shawn lane, he however could also write great tunes... Can guthrie write songs?

  • @toniromonline Well, if by songs, you mean proper songs--a piece of music with vocals--who knows? Don't think he's released any. If you mean tunes, then I'd say yeah, he can write some great tunes. Pretty much everything on "Erotic Cakes" is memorable. I agree that Shawn Lane sure could write (and play)...I'm a Lane fanatic myself.

  • @toniromonline Yes!!! buy his solo album Erotic cakes and his debut with his new band the aristocrats. Some of the most intricate and well though out instrumentals ever.

  • Very impressive. After 10 seconds I got bored. I'd rather listen to Reggie Young play on Drift Away than this guy any day. I'll take music, a song, over real fast show off stuff anyday. Not saying this guy can't play with taste, but everything I see from him is "hey look how fast I can play!"

  • Cornford is using hacks. No matter what AMP you throw at Mr. Govan, he'll play so tight you'll end up having to sell your own guitar&amp and go back to selling dolphins on the black market.

  • GG is a player's player

  • guthrie govans playing always trips the fuck out of me!

  • i love how guthrie is just going to town with that amp XD

  • my mind is full of fuck.

  • haha at 5:00 listen carefully, he is playing black knight by deep purple :D

  • @DemonBird ahh i knew i was something i'd recognized!! deep purple a la guthrie/jeff beck!

  • HE FUCKED ALL THE GUITAR!! AWESOME!

  • Great, great playing. Where is the comparison of amplifiers?

  • yes sir your great... :) i love it bro...

  • yes sir i love it jazzy great men...one of a kind bro...:)

  • fail handshake at 6:59

  • it's not really fair to make an amp demo with Guthrie playing

  • Sounds good. But how heavy can they get? I like some chunky riffage.

  • @maneatingtoilets I don't think they're very heavy. They are good for what Guthrie is using them for on this video.

  • @maneatingtoilets Add a pedal and your all set to go

  • 2:41

    pretty good?

    pretty good?!!?!!?

  • @Tzachi076S Yeah he's a fag

  • Notice at 2:52, that God's ambrosia drink took the form of a beer bottle..

  • hey guys, what do you think about a roadhouse 30 top in comparison with the 50 head?

  • Gg could make any amp sound amazing

  • Guthrie is a freak I am sure he is not really human,,!! Shit his good no one could deny that

  • who doesnt like this video?!

  • i love he is playing on a Suhr guitar ! :D

  • Somehow everything he plays always sounds like music.

  • @MrMeist...thanks for your words of wisdom but that was meant as a joke mate....I couldn't play what Guthrie played with or without tabs! ;)

  • I think that GG pretty much proves that there is knowing how to play the guitar and then a whole other frickin' level beyond that....and then there's like 7 other levels and he mastered those like 10 years ago.

  • if you need tabs, you cant play any of what he's doing

  • @MrMeist very true... Its a matter of your ability to improv with the music theory you already know

  • that was best for me what ive seen form guthrie.

  • The guy saying "pretty good" pisses me off. Trying to act smart. Guthrie will rip your skull in half with his tone.

  • @funnyguy1321 OK, i was searching for that comment.

  • @funnyguy1321 Well he was obviously kidding dude. Jesus.

  • @Element404 Well obviously so was I. Unless Guthrie can really rip someones head off with pure tone? If it's possible then share the link??

  • @funnyguy1321 i think he meant that in sheer amazement , not to be a wiseguy dude

  • Respond to this video... man everytime isee guthrie play he just gets more amazing and inreasing his bag o tricks like unreal the man is just a one of a kind....

  • @funnyguy1321 Hes just being sarcastic...

  • Err...tabs anyone?

  • O_O

  • if i saw this dude on the street i would think he was homeless.

  • man what a lame crowd, I'd be there chugging beers going "FUCK YEAH GUTHRIE TEAR IT UP!!!"

  • Id sacrifice both and my legs.

  • Guthrie's playing is so tastefull!!

  • 2:01...so bored

  • @2:01... hes soooo bored

  • he's prodigious.....shawn lane...della vega...prodigious....so fast, but you dont' hear fast...you hear...music....like none other. shoulda been born with the greats of jazz...think maybe he'd a had more fun.

  • pretty good? is that a joke?

  • @dan02youknow

Yeah. It was pretty clear that he was being sarcastic when he said that.

  • unbelievable

  • 14 dislikes are you people crazy, this man is a prodigy!!!

  • biggest inspiration someone ever gave me, Thanks Guthrie.... you are a very gifted special man!!!

  • Needs to take a chill pill

  • this has nothing to do with cornford amps, he could pick any other amp, its just a guthrie govan show

  • "pretty good....."

  • that was freaking sick!

  • make Guthrie not War!

  • man guthrie, asskickin' playin...yeah...just awesome

  • now, this guy can play guitar!

  • woh I thought Guthrie Govan was an old country man back in the early 30's but I didn't expect to see this! He's great!

  • @splendora That's Woody Guthrie

  • Notice how Christlike he is. He just kicks ass with an aura of kindness, I think i saw him in a Raphael painting the other day raising the dead.

  • at 0:30 can someone tell me how i can get that tone or what pickup he switches that to. it sounds trebley but i can tell its not the bridge pickup. i love that tone. or any tone close to it.

  • "What did you think of the greatest guitar player of all time?"

    "Meh"

    Shut up kid

  • @271189a It is called "sarcasm". You know what that means? What it is, is when you say something false/wrong in a JOKING WAY (and generally you aren't serious about what you say when your being sarcastic).

  • @MoneyPieBoy sarcasm, right...i have heard of the concept, what do you call it when you see someone genuinely not get whats goin on?

  • It's hardly a good demo...Guthrie could make a blues jr. sound like magic...

  • @Prestostark Exactly

  • he was being sarcastic when he said "God bless you" ...he just didnt wanna say "I bless you"

  • @francisco444 You totally cracked me up, and yes I have been telling people that I have never saw Jesus and Guthrie in the same place at the same time....?

  • @francisco444 its really so xDD

  • @francisco444 That's not sarcasm...

  • ol he pronounces him 'guthrie guvan'

  • that is probably one of the most beautiful guitars ever created.

  • guthrie govan arouses me in the pants

  • wat guitar does he use?

  • @metalheadshredder1 It's a John Suhr Guthrie Govan Model.

    (Similar to the Modern 24)

  • @metalheadshredder1 Hello, Suhr has 2 Guthrie Govan models now, this was the prototype bolt on neck, there is now a satin finish mohogany? body set neck available, kind of looks like Nunos Padauk N4, very sweet guitars

I can order the Guthrie Models up for anyone, just hit me up.

  • @WallyCornfordUSA how much is his one?

  • @metalheadshredder1

$3661, shipping included, and I can offer a signed cd from Guthrie as well.

Best to reach me at my email about this stuff.

    wally at cornfordusa dot c o m

  • @WallyCornfordUSA cool but im not sure if i have the money at this moment but i will save for about a month or so

  • @metalheadshredder1 The cool thing about me is I let people put a deposit on their order and the remainder of the balance is due prior guitar shipping.

I have an email into Ed at Suhr about some things and I asked him about turn-around time. I was curious.

    Stay in touch, email me.

  • i would actually sacrifice a testicle to be able to play like guthrie

  • @kierandoyle1992 So would Jon Petrucci. :)

  • @kierandoyle1992 Both ?

  • @SylverANGL definitely. shawn lane had a really high voice and was still badass... i think if i could play like this i'd be able to get away with the feminine voice :')

  • @kierandoyle1992 I don't think Shawn's voice was effeminate, I like to think of it like he had a frequency all his own, just like he inhabited a leval of playing all his own

  • @kierandoyle1992 id sacrifice both

  • @kierandoyle1992 i'd sacrifice both

  • @kierandoyle1992 Who wouldn't? I think for that kind of skill it would have to be the male sex organ as a whole haha

  • @kierandoyle1992 why don't you just sacrifice 8 hours a day of PRACTICE?

  • @TheFinalPowerlifter i actually practise at least 4 hours every day, sorry for wanting to play like one of my idols

  • @kierandoyle1992 I just want everyone to know, Practicing is cool and everything but really if you sit around for 9 years at 8 hrs a day you will be good but will have no life. How do I know......Because I did it. I have played my ass off in my basement and on stage since I was 14 years old and started in the 4th grade. I am now 26 and working on getting a personal life. Not only that but there isn't too much money in it. People are dumb and would rather hear a nickelback cover.

  • @willeng84 That's bullshit! Get in a band, do shows and tour and make a life of it if you really enjoy it. Having no life has nothing to do with practicing guitar routinely. Especially nowadays, where if you ARE good, people WILL tune in on the net. You're discouraging people with that kind of talk, just because it didn't work for you.

  • @GibsonGuitarist666 Im 26 and own my own home, and have made some real cash. I don't know who you say it doesn't work for but if you think keeping your real friends from highschool and having a relationship with someone you care about is easy while on the road or in the homeless shelter have at it. All I am saying is do the damn thing but don't tune everyone out of your life for it. Its really hot to bring a chick home after a big set and your home is a ryder van. ballin.

  • @GibsonGuitarist666 your name is gibson guitarist666 I actually thought you were someone else or I wouldn't have explained myself. Your a joke have fun with your drop D, C,Bullshit. Every 10 year old around can play that shit with one finger on one hand. Haha yeah we got a club for fags like you around here.

  • @willeng84

I respect your past situations and experiences but i just feel i have to toss this out there. Some people practice their ass off just for the fulfillment of being good and that alone is reward in itself. You'd be pretty surprised how many would care less about an easy life and prefer to make music in their own little holes :P and to them that would be life. Guthrie Govan here worked in a fast food restaurant lol. just so happens he got picked up or something :))

  • @kierandoyle1992 - same to me

  • @kierandoyle1992 You're in luck. You don't have to sacrifice a testicle to play like this. You just have to practice a lot.

  • @Joedeco06 i am aware of that. i was making what is known in some circles as a "joke". also you are aware guthrie's been playing for 36 years? and at the age of 39 that's near enough 90% of his life. and me being at the tender age of 18 and having only played for a year and a half, well you know, it goes without saying, just practising alot at this point will not make me play like guthrie.

  • @kierandoyle1992 I was attempting a joke too. I never had any comedic timing. I've been playing for 11 or 12 years and I will probably never be as well rounded as Guthrie nor do I aim to be. He is sure fun to watch though. Cheers.

  • @kierandoyle1992 You saying that last sentence is the only reason why not.

  • @Joedeco06 your right but u must also be devoted and passionate or music be diverse and expand your creativity some may say theres noone as good as govan but thats what people thought about clapton till hendrix came along

  • @kierandoyle1992 I`d sacrifice both, after 20 years of marriage (and the `pin`s been pulled anyway IYKWIM) they`re fuck all use to me (or her) anyway!

but, to play like THAT, oh man alive, if anyone can teach me to play like that and needs a couple of never used, useless testi`s, they`re all yours!

  • @kierandoyle1992 I'd sacrifice both

  • @kierandoyle1992 just one?

  • @kierandoyle1992

I would probably give both nuts (and a chance to ever have kids) just to play like Guthrie.... lol

  • @kierandoyle1992 Or you could practice

  • I met Guthrie Govan in a guitar clinic in Bucharest, Romania. The organisers asked me to lend him my Cornford amp. He's such a great chap: friendly, humble. Taught me a few tricks; he even invited me to play his guitar. Oh well, during his 2-3 mins of soundcheck I was his only audience. I think I shat my pants a couple of times :))

  • @romaniaguitarplayer God damn man. To be able to lend a helping hand to such a great musician is so great. I wish someday someone will ask me something similar to let them use my equipment. People forget, musicians are still people. They may seem inhuman, but damn, it's pretty close.

  • If its good enough for Guthrie Govan...

It's good enough for every guitar player on the planet.

  • I console myself with the fact the Guthrie can't swim, but i can.

I'd swap abilities though, if he asked.

  • guthrie may be a master.

    i respect that.

    but he's not making me

    hate the blues any less.

    lol.

  • @moyersshred hmm it was a tad more jazzy than blues, but idk :P

    All music is good :)

    And guthrie is amazing :O

  • Comment removed

  • Don't ever mention that scumbags name on a Guthrie video again. He sucks.

  • @BanTimHaIcombNow sorry man it was just an example of how good guthrie is.

  • "I always shred, and when I do, I drink a fuckton of Corona; my chaps".

    -Guthrie Govan-

  • I can play all this and more. Check my Larry Carlton video. I play all Guthries licks with a cool Pink Floyd sound :-)

  • I can't believe he played all those crazy grooves and tricks without a note sounding out of place!!! He truely is one of the greatest of our time. Hats of to you Mr Govan!

  • Great playing but the amp sounds like shit

  • @ajpeagle You're crazy lol

  • this guy is just as good or better than satriani or vai and he only uses three fingers most of the time. not to mention hes not a cocky prick

  • do they only sell these in the UK?

  • pfft the reason he doesn't just strum chords is well because that would suck...hes selling the product therefore he demonstrates its versatility with his versatile playing. You cant demo an anp by just strumming a G chord, you have to fully demonstrate the spectrum of sounds available................yeah

  • HE'S VERSATIL BUT EVERYWHERE HE PLAY HE PUT HIS STYLE , EXAMPLE HE PLAY A BLUES , HE WILL PUT A LOT OF FUSION SCALES INTO IT SAME AS METAL , COUNTRY , ROCK A BILYL ETC

  • Okay, so Guthrie govan is BEASTLY. It's a true shame that he didn't make it into the top ten fastest players as voted by the readers of Guitar Player mag. :(

  • @anvardhost guitar player mag is shit

  • The guy's obviously a good player, don't get me wrong, but he should probably trying playing something a little more normal so that people can see what the amps really sounds like, like just strum some chords and stuff.

  • @AreYouIrrelevant GG doesn't strum chords. He only knows how to fuse nerve endings in peopl's brains with his awsomeness

  • @Kingding6

It would appear that way, although for an amp demo, it would be sensible for him to strum some chords.

  • this guy plays pretty good :P

  • i dont really like these amps. i dont know why. its almost like they sound too sterile. its too pussy sounding to me. not saying its a bad amp. just saying that i cant feel it

  • Guthrie is so versatile it gives me nightmares. My favorite guitarist alive - from a technical /original standpoint.

  • To the folks that said Jason doesn't play blues is funny. Jason was the only candidate to replace Vai in David Lee Roth. Jason has killing blues songs on his later releases and even played blues with his right hand fingering when his left hand got too weak. Meet me in the morning has so much feel its crazy.......perpetual burn wasn't all Becker did..........he played Jazz ,blues, rock EVERYTHING brother.

  • Don't take this the wrong way ...i know Jason and he says Guthrie is the BEST and wants him to play at his benefit show next year....Jason's dream is to hear Guthrie play at his house LIVE and if he could bring Tal Wilkenfeld he would CRY. My comments are irrelevant because it is just an opinion...no one is the BEST.....they are both genius in different ways.

  • @robsalsa71 - "i know Jason and he says Guthrie is the BEST" When a man like Becker says something like that (many many other top recording artists say the same thing also) you have to take that on board.

  • He never plays a bend with feeling in this whole video....he's great until he bends ...then he sounds like every guy at guitar center.

  • I don't remember saying Guthrie was bad.......it's just he will never be Becker. Becker was better at 9 yrs old ....ummm ......Guthrie is great i would love to hear his vibrato some day.....so far he doesn't have one.

  • @robsalsa71 your talking out your ass mate. this guy can clone every guitarist of consequence. and before you starting saying that cloning is aload of bollocks you are wrong. in the studio if i want something that sounds like vai one minute and then the bb king at another, having one guitar pull that off is a DREAM in the studio. Guthrie didnt practice rediculas amounts of hours to be shrugged off by some amatuer with an opinion.

  • @MrElfro89 Mr. Govan might be a tough cookie to have in the studio...

For me as an engineer, I might have a hard time not giggling long enough to actually hear what I am tracking!

When I listen to this guy, he is so good, I have to giggle because I have a blast every time {:-D

Seriously though, what a treat it would be to have that kind of versatility on a session!

  • that little thing he did at 7:44 makes me laugh because its so crazy how he has all these tricks in his locker

  • Ah yeah, time for me to maybe take up tennis something because after watching this guy I want to give up guitar.Wow!!!

  • Guthrie Go-Man !

  • LOVE U!

  • Good God......this is not fair...or something....fucker could at least sweat a little....

  • attention guthrie govan- please figure out how to suck so the rest of us can feel good about ourselves again.

  • he is the shit !

  • this is the true master

  • The Rk100 is a very Big sound. love it!!!

  • you notice how quiet it was when he was playin'.

  • guthrie ,u kill me

  • que freak!!

  • why are you arguing about howe n becker in a govan video ? comparing musicians sucks...

  • Iv'e never seen anybody including Becker Or Howe or lane(who happens to be my fav guitarist) excel at so many styles and master them. I mean GG can litteraly play any style. And he does it more or less flawlessley. Becker and Howe are not in GG or Lane's leval is my opinion

  • @Kingding6 Jason Becker and Greg Howe are in Guthrie and Lane's level. Although Guthrie is probably my favorite guitarist ever, when he's playing fusion, you have to look at how much he takes from Greg Howe's style. Lane and Guthrie might be a little more over the top then Becker or Howe, but it's really not correct to say that I think..

  • @WoWandMetalFTW just my opinion

  • im glad guthrie came around and shut joe bonamassa up.
