How to Make Bias Binding for a Quilt

Multiplying the perimeter by two is not the same as calculating the area of the quilt, a statement which comes out of nowhere after saying "Confused yet?" Well, yes. There is no explanation for the appearance of the area figure, which to that point hadn't been mentioned. For example, suppose the sides of the quilt are 25" each. The perimeter is 100", multiplied by 2 is 200". The area of a quilt 25" x 25" = 625.

THANK YOU for posting this! I've always been afraid to try bindings but not after watching this. I cant wait to get started.

However, I do have a question that I would appreciate help with. In the calculations, after obtaining the square root, you say you need a square piece of fabric but I noticed you are using a rectangle piece. So if my calculation after the square root is 27, then I just need 3/4 of a yard? I dont need to cut down my fabric (originally 27x44) to a 27x27 square?

@angelsabovesp Hi Angels...You can use any piece of fabric - the important thing is to make your first cut at a 45 degree angle - folding a square in half is a very easy way to accomplish this without measuring. After the first cut, you can continue cutting at that same angle all the way down any size rectangle. You definitely don't have to cut your rectangle down to a square - sorry about us not being clear!

GREAT video. Makes it look simple enough to do. The speaking is clear and understandable. I did a lot of research on Youtube today to try and figure out how to make binding for some cording on a pioneer dress I'm making. I was so happy I ran across this! You should add another 2 keywords for searches to it though "cording" and "piping." That way people like me can find it more easily. Anyhow, Thanks again!
