  • Fascinating! Well done!

  • ...what? No barge awaits!

  • Great Video. What's amazing is the engineering involved. Are these tunnels a hundred years old?

  • a good film spoiled entirely by the awful music almost unwatchable

  • Would love to go a wandering down there and a few other hidden/abandoned places bout leeds. Did you need to get special permission to go down there?

  • Which part of the tunnel did you think was best?

  • Is this sewage?

  • never realised that Leeds was a giant open sewer system!

  • looks like a local smack head hotspot suprised thres nom there gouching

  • that photo at the end is classic!

  • Great journey....but I KNOW that had to be disgusting at some points.....

    I love Leeds....greetz from Holland!

  • We went through these same tunnels from Meanwood baths as nine year old kids all the way to the end at the aire without protection and without lights in the late 60s. It was pitch and to our horrer we could not get out the other end so had to go all the way back. When i think back it was the most stupid and dangerous thing we ever did. People never believed we did it but they can't take away the memory of what we did.

  • Where did you guys start on this epic trip? Been trying to track the river course on google earth...

  • great to see phil, we used to play in these places when we were kids & explore them, we went from the beck at fearnvilles down the tunnels all the way to roundhay park, also the meanwood beck aswell, it brings back memories, time to post this on facebook so all the old crew can see from the late 70's early 80's.....

  • Excellent work guys, thanks for showing us this hidden treasure.

  • we used to go in some of these tunnels as kids well as fare as we could with no touches. good vid chaps.

  • I believe there is an extensive tunnel network under parts of Liverpool also; built by a millionaire in the late 1800's-not to mention the Paris underground caverns..i like it

  • very nice video!!! thats a crazy underground hub at 8:33. where was this filmed?

  • Hi phill.d

Spoke to you on your myspace site. I do think your adventures are very informative and good. I loved your myspace page and found some wonderfull photos and stories. Hope you get to do much more.

    Yours

  • What is the music called?

  • Great video...wont be long before the history channels "cities of the underworld" shows up!

  • As a kid in 1960's Gledhow, it was the height of daring to go down Little Switzerland to Gledhow Valley Road and then run along the tunnel that takes the stream from right to left along under that road. Quite long and phrase "light at end of tunnel" valid.

  • ACE!!

    well done guys!

I have yet to drain, but drain I shall!

  • Wow, never knew them places existed.

  • Have you spotted those reptelians ther ni99a?

  • excellant well done guys

  • Played down in this system some 30 years ago, lots of entries into it.

    Great memories

  • That's WAS BLOODY GOOD DO MORE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT LAYS BELOW Leeds

  • Interesting, so do you guys do any other urban exploring ?

  • Used to play down there with my mates loads of times when i was a young un, we used to fall in the water every now and then too, it stank rofl!!

  • Really enjoyed that - thanks. How do you join this society?

  • Music is too loud and irritating - had you got loud music blarring when you went through the tunnel - why not??!! Turn it off or at least turn it down - it spoils it

  • Have you got a volume control on your speakers. If not, why not? if you have..THEN USE IT!!!!

  • @philldavison Well it would be nice to actually hear what you are saying... But since it's just that bad i think i'll just pass.

  • ferris beuler?

  • That brings back memories, I played down those tunnels as a kid. Spent the first part of my life in Roscoe road until it was pulled down. Then I moved up to the Gipton estate (when it was still a decent area)

  • GPT!!!

  • For those uninformed... C.H.U.D.S.=

    Cannabalistic Human Underground Dwellers!

Cool movie! Creepy creatures with glow-in-the-dark eyes! H.G.Wells' Morlocks!

  • Bradford ("Broad Ford") has got same but better. Coming in down the back of the Alhambra Theatre the Beck ran into an old tunnel under the low city centre.

In '93/'94 behind Sunbridge road whilst prepping for the new Aldermanbury, they dug up the old (very old) tunnel and put a concrete one in.

This takes the water from that point down under the town through to Forster Square / canal road area.

Also a Bradford Canal which linked up to Leeds/L'pool at Shipley.

    Not quite The Third Man.

  • Wow! I'm amazed. I've lived here and around my whole life and thought i'd seen most of it. How wrong could I be. Nothing like secret tunnels to keep a person fascinated. Cheers

  • I bet at night its full of people and C.H.U.D.S.

  • CHUDS?

  • on the walls you see the markers of the lesse species of the human race, the chavs

  • I worked on the City station when that was being refurb'd and that is riddled with tunnels.

  • I was going to ask where abouts in Leeds they were, then I heard him say we're just below the New Roscoe pub.

  • i wouldnt do this unless all were armed with some sort of weapon and each team member was able to fight hand to hand if needed...dont know what or who you may encounter...friend of mine "hobo"ed with a friend and ran across some "unfriendly" characters, until they was convinced that it be to their best intrest to just walk away, which they did...also you dont know what type of toxic sh1t could have been dump down there, stay on the train tracks, safer and cleaner !

  • saru means monkey in japanese

  • Oh bugger it went twice!

  • Excellent video:)

  • Excellent video:)

  • I loved that! -good on yea fellas -love doing stuff like that!!

  • cool video

  • Thanks folks! Glad to make you feel homesick chris!

  • Excellent, and great to hear some Leeds accents again. I've been here in the Midlands for a year now and I miss it!

  • Very impressed by the inclusion of "March Of The Swivelheads" by The Beat.

    Cool!!

  • Great video!

It's a shame that there isn't places like that here in Finland :(. I would like to visit the UK or Australia just for the sewers and other places like that.

  • Paris!!!!!! :)

  • Cheers!

  • So awesome, thanks.

  • Thanks apple... Actually it's a well known urb ex run... there's more people go down there than you'd imagine..it even has it's own name. THE MASTICATOR.

  • Can't help thinking you guys took a hell of a chance......glad you did. Great Video!

  • Yes you could walk it from Adel but it might be a fight through the undergrowth.. The walkable culvert starts at Buslingthorpe lane... Yes the Roscoe setion is the Gledhow beck, we followed it in half way but it was a very small boring section.

  • my mate used to have a garage off meanwood road, penraevon avenue. I used to look over the back at the beck, i once suggested following it but no one was up for it. Could you go all the way from adel woods to the river aire? Also the branch behind the roscoe, does this go towards gledhow valley woods? Great vid anyway!

  • Yeah you get to keep your feet dry too Gizmomagick. Check out my flickr photos, there's a boat load of beck tunnels on there!

  • This is brilliant. I've wanted to go through the beck tunnels myself for a long time now, I live in the area and have always been interested in this stuff. Great work, watching ths is the next bext thing to being in there.

  • Thanks there Kealt. It was my first go at editing a film so i might have another go at remastering now i've got the hang of it. Cheers!

  • Thats was really good mate! keep it up

  • Thanks mate :-)

  • Great film , worth seeing twice . phild

  • that was great, Phill

takes me back to my teenage years in Hemel Hempstead, where a similar river ran underground from Northridge to Boxmoor. The tunnels were of about 2ft radius, but every few hundred metres there was a concrete "room", usually with manhole access to the world above.

3 friends and i hacksawed a grill at the bottom end of the tunnel by the canal and used to travel possibly miles up the narrow pipe using skateboards & candles.

  • It's March of the swivel heads by the Beat

  • good vid - but whats with the cheesy music?

  • Smashing vid 11 out of 10

  • great video I drive past these places everyday and didn't know they were there. Well done look forward to seeing more. Rob
