Incomplete grief is often mistakenly diagnosed as "depression," and can be a symptom of family dysfunction. Medication and "depression therapy" will not help people grieve. See this article from a veteran family therapist:
my mum had a cyst in her ovary, entodemetriosis, and she was anaemic. then my brother and sister started going at each other non stop and all this eventually depressed her. she committed suicide in 2007. ive moved on but my dad and my grandparents haven't.
