@palmerfan22 he's selling the old man the brooklyn bridge. it was a standard con back in the day. brooklynites would "sell" tourists and out of towners the brooklyn bridge as a way to make some quick scratch. some guys went as far as to print up bills of sale. they were running that racket in some neighborhoods up till at least the early sixties.
@Marbles471 you'd be amazed how stupid people can be when there on vacation in new york. one word describes our summers here: hustling. we honestly don't need to pick your pocket, you guys fling it at us willingly. i bought my first car off of money made slinging mini-statues of liberty and i love new york t-shirts. but to adress your question, at twelve i got yelled at by a cop for trying to sell three german tourists the statue with the horses in front of the museum by central park.
I'm a New Yorker. But I have neither the scruples deficit or the natural salesmanship abilities to even attempt pulling off such a stunt----not even to German tourists. X)
@Marbles471 and the real kicker is the cops the one who told me he used to pull the same scam back in the sixties growing up on picket avenue.
since we're on the subject of the big apple, you going to the comic con at the javits center tomorrow? two words: JAPANESE CHICKS. you can't miss me: i'll be the big guy wearing the iron man t-shirt from spencers with the iron man mask from wal-mart. (it really irks the hell out of the fanboys when you rock the cheap shit.) and no,i won't be hustling
LOL. What are the odds? I just went today. Can't afford to go tomorrow (hell, couldn't even afford to go today----hello canned tuna for the next week.)
I'm learning HOW to hustle. It's not a natural talent. So while I'm at it, if you're so inclined, swing by drunkduck dot calm slash anecdote. Drop me a message here on YouTube iff'n you have any thoughts, positive or negative, about whatt'n ye find there.
I wish Davis had directed more Bugs Bunnys----heck I wish his unit had never been shut down. This has always been a favorite of mine. Some people say that it should have been McKimson's unit that got the axe instead of Davis's. It's true that McKimson's stuff got very bland as the 50s went on, but we'll never know if Davis would have maintained the same energy level he had right out of the box. Just another "what if."
What Bugs does at the very end casts serious doubts that "his" version of what happened to Steve Brodie actually happened, anyway. The "Peabody's Improbable History" segments on "ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS" and "THE BULLWINKLE SHOW" (which featured this cartoon's co-writer, Bill Scott, as the voice of "Mr. Peabody"), endlessly satirized famous historical incidents, complete with an outrageous pun at the end.
@SpockLover27 : There was an actual Steve Brody that jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge. He wasn't committing suicide, and besides, this character just jumped off to get away from all the rabbits he thought he was seeing. Suicide isn't funny, but don't take this cartoon so seriously. It has a lot of classic one-liners.
Correct, 'RX'. Tashlin did spend most of his time directing (and occasionally producing) live-action features over the next two decades, including several in collaboration with Jerry Lewis in the early '60s. After his last {and WORST} film, Bob Hope's "The Private Navy of Sgt. O'Farrell" in 1968, Tashlin retired, and passed away four years later.
Unfortunately, he did, 'lastangelman'- a post-war economy drive at Warners forced the studio to disband one of its four cartoon units in early '49- and since Art Davis' was the most recent to be formed {taking over Frank Tashlin's unit in '45}, HIS was the one eliminated [they certainly weren't going to let Freleng, Jones or McKimson go!]. Yet Davis claimed he never wanted to be a director in the first place...but he did return to directing in the '60s, at the DePatie-Freleng studio.
@nesmario123 It's okay. I didn't mean to sound angry, I just wanted to make sure you understood that they wouldn't use language like that in a Looney Toon.
The only Warner Bros. cartoon that was copyrighted and released in 1949. Other Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons released that year were copyrighted in 1947 and 1948.
