"Jeff Beck created the original drum beat while in the studio with Wonder. After writing the song Wonder offered it to Beck to record, but at the insistence of Berry Gordy Wonder himself recorded it first.[4] Beck was instead offered "Cause We've Ended As Lovers," which he recorded on Blow by Blow in 1975. Jeff Beck played guitar on Talking Book and later recorded his own version of "Superstition" as a part of Beck, Bogert & Appice."
@tomsielaff I think it fits beautifully. It's a bit sharp and raspy which makes it sound a little too loud. He really reels it in with the tone after his solo by using the neck PU. and pulls the tone knob out. I think he knows he has a sharp G at this point and avoids playing it certain ways. What's cool is how he hints the vocal and horn parts. I just think the opening tone was not his usual sound.
What can anybody say? Just sit back, enjoy and get blown away by the majesty of Mr. Stevie Wonder and the incomparable Jeff Beck! Superstition has to rank as one of the funkiest rock songs of ALL TIME!
JEFF BECK SUCKS? WHAT'S THE COLOR OF THE SKY IN YOUR WORLD? THAT "OPINION" RANKS WITH THE MOST HIDEOUS OF ALL-TIME. PLEASE, REFRAIN FROM VOTING...FOR ANYTHING.
Hey there fellow Stevie Wonder fans and music lovers! If you like hearing new musicians and good covers, check out this funky, jammin version from Webster Hall in New York City. Be sure to leave a comment if ya dig it! Thanks for your interest!!
Who is the Guitarist with that Beautiful Green Guitar? If any one here know which manufacture the Guitar is made from please let me know. Its not an ESP, or Jackson, however it may be a custom made bu a Luthier who only makes custom built Guitars. Definitely a Fender(like Jeffs Strat Plus), or a Fender Custom shop Guitar. Brian Moore? Anyone know? Thanks Jim
jeff beck, what an actual legend, you put him on stage with stevie wonder, and you somehow manage to create this immense sound that we're watching right now, what i'd do to have been there!
@tehgreyyy you must know that Jeff Beck has recorded a version of Superstition back in the early 70's. Critics & fans loved his version because it fused the rock element into a soul song!!
@tehgreyyy His solo is not unrelated to the song... Stevie wrote this song originally for Jeff Beck, when JB had a super heavy rock group, Beck Bogert and Appice. So "Superstition" was originally to be a heavy rock song. Or heavy-funk-rock for that matter
alto tema!, la primera ves q lo escuche fue un cover de ciro! lo canta en castellano un grosso! esta en mi cuenta cualquier cosa fijensen y comenten ;) ;)
@theponchoman This is driving me crazy. Why is his guitar work and fretboard "photoshopped" in this solo? So far, you are the only other person i've seen to notice this. At 2:01, his guitar looses 3 frets and his fret hand is obviously fudged. It happened briefly when he first walked out and i watched it over and over trying to figure out why they might have done it. Then i saw 2:01 and freaked out. Does anyone have any idea why they did this?
I can't see what's shopped about the hand, but there's definitely something weird about the frets there. Just a few seconds before and after, you can clearly see the single dots on G, A, B, and C#, and the double dot on E...but at 2:01, something weird is clearly going on.
@jasonhorwitz That's bizarre! Again at 2:10. Maybe he wasn't looking "solo" enough for the solo so they took a more exciting shot and shifted the hand up the fretboard to approximately match the notes he would be playing. Or maybe he was just being blocked by the camera when they wanted another cutaway.
Beck recorded on Talking Book for Stevie, and asked Stevie for a song. Stevie gave him Superstition but when Berry Gordy heard it, he said no fucking way are you giving THAT song away.Beck's version with BBA is After the fact , and yes a BIG disappointment. That is why for Beck fans this was a GREAT moment!!
@rmac06 Also... the main riff came to Stevie from hearing Jeff screwing around on drums in the studio - You'll see Jeff interviewed about this, very gracious.....he says it was the only thing he could do on drums, and not very well.
I once thought that since the deaths of Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, no guitarist had ever been capable of maintaing the Blues into the 21st century. That was before I first heard Jeff Beck play.
Not many people know that Stevie originally planned to have Jeff Beck play for this song when he wrote it. Conflicting schedules postponed this awesomeness.
@MachXX2 I am an old Memphis musician and I had a friend who knew Jeff and Rod Stewart. he was the Memphis session trombone player. Like the 3rd Memphis Horn. Anyway, he said Jeff was pissed with Stevie for promising Jeff he could use Superstition and try for a hit, but Stevie went on ahead and recorded it. Thank goodness 'cause Jeff's version of it off of Beck, Bogart and Appice was shit. He said Rod pissed with Jeff being stingy when it came to paying Rod when he was in the Jeff Beck Grp.
and I cannot imagine Jeff composes those different phrases each time, I suppose he trained ,try and try at home, then he plays one of the trials on stage. or he just plays improvisations on stage,,,his sense of music and his tone is keen. he was 64 years old on this stage...amazing!!
@dynomyck8 fuck you, vai is a wanker. vai turned it from being "person a AND person b" to "person a VS person b" vai is all about trying to outplay the other person and he sucks. from a musical, technical, and mental standpoint, beck would kick vai's ass. but beck wouldnt even need to try. hed do it just by having a musical convo with vai, and vai wouldnt know what to do
