@jjjjjjenniebond I know! I completely agree. Any other television show and it probably would have been an insult to the music, but this totally validated it. (Tho at the time it may not have been too cool hearing your girls come up on teevee like that, esp considering what riot grrl's stand for, but Roseanne had it right. Prob no other woman on teevee at the time that embodied it more.) They definetly knew where the fire was, all of the amazing names they fired off...*sigh* I'm in Love haha.
HAHAH, I see myself in Rosanne. I have her haircut and the mouth! Lol! I love how they made fun of the Riot Grrrls but at the end they become them. Girls have so much power, so much strength. I'm all for equality, love everyone. But ladies, if a man ever lays a hand on you, lay two right back in his face. :)
oh man, I haven't seen this in awhile:) I loved when I first saw it b/c of the Bikini Kill & riot grrl refs. coupled w/ the fact that the show had far jumped the shark, so the handful of oddball eps that were good (NOT the pirate one) were fun to catch and they dont re-run em much now :(
love roseanne anyway- great show, and this was a good later episode. glad to see it up here. someone upload roseanne singing the national anthem, synced & in entirety! the versions floating here are incomplete
It's kind of cool that Roseanne was down with the whole revolution girl style now thing, but I can't help but feeling that I have just watched the exact moment when the riot grrrl movement died.
great turning point in american television, they shouldnt have bleeped out the responses to the trucker; i always thought that rosanne would be the first show to use the word shit, which is close to acceptable in american language anyway..anyone notice a young jenna elfman as garland in the back seat? this episode also pays indirect homage to the film thelma and louise..thanks for posting this scene
One of the most important scenes in modern television history! Hilarious and intelligent. Television today canNOT compete. Where did our brains go?
Bikini Kill RULED. I remember some of their best songs (for me) being "White Boy" (can't forget those lyrics) and "Tony Randall" (my personal favorite), and anything from The Singles album. Love that one.
I have to go see if Patti Smith's "People" song is on Napster.
Jerry was the cutest little fat baby ever.

"It's freedom rock, man. Turn it up."
That line was definitely an homage to that commercial from the late '80s for the compilation album "Freedom Rock".
