@Crazyscience101 They are just singing a particular song. Raag Bhairavi is traditional Indian (aka Hindu), but Pt. Jasraj is singing the song,"Mero Allah Mehrbaan".

@Crazyscience101 Raj is preserved in what we call India today,but Bharat was once all over the known and unknown earth.So raja isnt only for indians,it can be used to express any mood not only hindu.Muslim's sing too you know.Traditional Vedic music can be taken and used by all not only indians. Actually most music,dances etc originated in vedic culture,which is not INDDIAN Culture its just well preserved in india presently.

The Mewati Bhairav is absolutely ethereal. And, rendered by the Sangeet Martand, ah...the perfection is ineffable. This video is THE reason I love Raag Bhairav. Also, the focus on the komal dhaivat in this particular bandish is very interesting; everything revolves around this swar, as it should; at the same time, the pancham is given it's full due. Kya Baat Hai!

Thanks for this superb post..the great vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi can be seen at the start of the clip in the audience (he's wearing a shawl) sitting with Pandit Jasraji's wife Madhuraji....the episode was shot Sawai Gandharva Festival in Pune (you can see his portrait hanging behind, on the dais)....It's a text-bbok like classic exposition of what is one of the greatest ragas of the North Indian musical tradition...

The Divinity of Krishna, Sanatana and Bhakti. We are not perochial as Muslims. Alas Islam could not make its place inspite of including names of Allah, Hussain etc. in classical songs.

I have listened to these lyrics sung in Raaga Bhairav by Kumar Gandharva since childhood. Not once did it occur to me; the need to distinguish the fact that an "Islamic God" was being sung of by a "Hindu" musician. When we assign weight to our parochial identities; we indulge in "token secularisms". We reduce, limit, erode and eventually, destroy the spirit of India's culture and ethos. IT IS OUR COLLECTIVE LOSS. A complex point, but it is very easy to appreciate. I hope you catch my drift here.
