sanding the back side of the pickguard did not work on my classic vibe tele. either did rubbing the back with a dryer sheet, or putting the dryer sheet in the channel under the pickguard. The 2 wires from the pickup are not twisted as a pair, so i may try that. I am not sure if putting a copper shield on the back of the pickguard will help, either. The static nouise is only heard with the switch in the middle or neck position, which is when the neck pickup is active.
Try taking the pickguard off and sanding the back side of it.. could just be static electrisity boulding up becouse of the clear stuff on the pickguard. It worked on my tele, so give it a go!;)
