An exceedingly high percentage of family homes are non-traditional and do not have fathers in the house. Therefore, reading Daddy Cuddles to a child that does not have a father in the household could cause shame, confusion and alienation. This, of course, would not facilitate the development of trust which is vital to the first stage of development, however Just Me and My Puppy and The Family Book are very good selections for all students. Since the characters in both books are
represented as an animal caricature and colourful cartoon characters, they become inclusive; more universal in nature and can be easier for students of all races to identify with the protagonist as well as the book's concept. Todd Pars The Family Book discusses many different types of families, such as single parent, same sex, biracial, adopted, and blended and so on. The book talks about the love within a family and the different ways that each family may express those feelings.
Since students can readily identify with these books, the teachers purpose and developmental aim in reading the book will be realized by more students. This in turn helps the students to relate to the care and trust they should be developing within their own homes. We hope that you have found this brief analysis helpful and that you will take some of the suggestions we have made into consideration.
