its so funny i was watching fight club earlyer today and i was like man im tired ima get a soda i paused it went to the fridge opened it i had 2 kinds dr pepper and mountain dew i grabed a mountain dew i came back to the movie and before i started it back up i looked on the screen and there was a soda machine in the background in the scene and it was a mountain dew soda machine i laughed

To be fair, some of these ads are from the '50's and just wouldn't fly in our modern culture.

You missed the point: the 50's illustration (woman being spanked by husband) was being compared to a modern ad. The ads were both showing a woman in a subservient position being dominated by a man.
