im between studying in puntarenas and heredia. puntarenas seems like a fairly small community, i was wondering if it has any night life ? and since the school was small was it hard to meet locals?
oh...don't worry there is plenty of night life in the Punt...as we all fondly call it. I had the best time of my life living there. it is way better, but different than Heredia. Both cities have their charms.. I surf and prefer to be near the beach so Puntarenas was better for me. i met some of the nicest people there as well. you'll have no problem meeting locals.
I'm considering to study in San José next year. Do you know how long it takes to get to a good surf spot from the capital? is it possible to surf in the afternoon/evening after a full day at university?
If you have your own car, definately. but you probably won't...so you should try to study abroad somewhere near the ocean. but either way you can get to the beach in about 2 hours for decent surf. weekends are your best bet. check out USAC in Puntarenas. they have an amazing study abroad program that is reasonably priced and OUTSTANDIng!

wow, that is so awesome! i'll be studying abroad in costa rica as well... fall semester of 2008 :) it will be a bit different for me though, i'll be going my senior year of high school.
bring only the minimum! bathing suits/boardshorts, and tank tops. i took track 3 spanish classes, latin literature, tropical ecology (which was awesome!), and salsa dancing. it was seriously the best experience of my life. i am actually going back in July to teach English. Warning about Costa Rica: If you go, you will never want to leave!!!

Casa del turista! We hung out there a bunch with all the guys...Diego, Hilbert, Alejandro, etc. I can't remember the owner's name, but I want to say Patrick??? I could be wrong though.
