This GUN FIGHT is MORE of a GUN DANCE. I mean seriously rather than finishing the FIGHT by killing the OPPOSITE on BLANK POINT both these MEN are fighting each other by DANCING nd PLAYING. Thats not the way ONE battles in a GUN FIGHT
@prajvin121 Yeah,But what's the easiest way to defeat a gun user at point blank?Redirect the gun's line of fire, snatch the damn thing, and then try to shoot the bugger. Now imagine it with two guns, both guys must obviously try and redirect each other's lines of fire. Now take that concept and develop it into a highly trained form of a martial art,and bam, you've got Gun Kata.
Oh, thanks for that. I was in desperate need of your advice on how to maintain a high level of credibility! And on what basis, are you qualified to give such advice? I don't like the scene. It's my opinion and I was not seeking your approbation. IMHO, any film with Bale in it is worth avoiding.
I love this movie because the action is really cool! But my favorite genre of action movie is probably Kung Fu because they have so many great stars and martial arts moves. I just saw a great doc that came out on demand called “Films of Fury”. It has some really awesome action scenes and movie clips! bitly .com/uBGPir
Dancing with the stars...do this with your dance partner with live ammo all the judges are killed but the audience still applaud once both of them run out of ammo and the music stops.
Is there a missing scene right after this fight? Preston leaves here with not a scratch, but in the immediate next scene he goes to the "censorship center" to shoot up the computers and there's a huge gash on his neck and blood on his white dress uniform ... ?
You NEVER step back in an extreme CQC situation. It's your first instinct but IT'S WRONG. Stepping back gives the other guy more room and time too, and if he's worth anything at all he'll use that to lunge at you, rendering any point to stepping back completely moot.
In this situation, you're actually supposed to step forward inside his range, press the barrel of the gun against the opponent, and fire several times.
Hahahahaha its funny how you can see the black guys face on the floor after Preston kills the "father" haha. It looks so stupid!!!!! Funny stupid!!! haha.
Someone should try to analyze and perfect gun kata for real world use.It seems like it would be hella useful for the military, law enforcement, and self defense
@wisewarriormuzic The real gun kata is that anyone can be anywhere at anytime, without a lot of variation between where or when. If you're this close and you know martial arts, the best move is to disarm with one of a hundred different moves all with one purpose. Break the grip, get the gun out of their reach. They'll shoot you even if they're shot. If you're far enough for a proper gun fight, you aren't going to dodge bullets - people are aiming for flesh, not some definable area you can dodge.
You don't see it in this clip but the best bit of the fight was when It was when He gets up to fight and it looks like he's going to use the sword for a second, and when he pics up the gun instead you know shits about to get real.
There's just one thing that I don't quite understand about this scene. Why does Preston throw away his katana at the start? I'm sure he still could have made it across the room in time, katana in hand, and cut off the gun from the bad guy's hand before he can pull the trigger.
Of course, if that happened, then we wouldn't have this awesome fight scene. ;]
You have to give the fatass some credit. He managed to take on Preston in one on one combat for a whole forty seconds. Considering that forty seconds is all that Preston needs to kill twenty men, that means that the boss had some mad skills. Not too many big bad bosses learn how to fight themselves.
@Numbnut10 i know, right? though i think that somewhere it's at least implied that he was also a cleric at some point. could be wrong, it's been a while since i saw all of equilibrium
@Numbnut10 You have a point. I really expected it to be an epic final fight between preston and his partner, forgot his name though. And what happens? Oh yes, twenty seconds into the fight, he gets his face cut off.
I'm sorry but this seriously looked fucking retarded. Why not drop at least one of the guns so you can actually use your hands to get a grip on the guy and get him in an arm lock or something? Anything would have made more sense than waving your guns back and forth in each other's faces like this. I know this looks cool but when you think about how absolutely ridiculous it is, its hard to enjoy it.
@DuaLeaD You can count the shots fired .it should be 17 or 18 if I got it right. a present-day 9mm pistol can hold that many rounds. and there's 2 pistols involved. So unless the total amount of shots fired exceeds 35, which it evidently does NOT, there is nothing fishy about it.
@spemux : Apparently, they originally planned some novel form of martial art for the movie, but when it came to filming, they had not yet devised anything novel enough; they ran out of time. To save delays and undue effort, they simply lumped with this irrational firearm discipline, hence the patently bizarre inability of anyone in the film to conceive of the long-distance killing capacity of their firearms. lol
@WhiteHawkUK you really couldn't just say "They didn't have enough time to make the fight scenes seem more realistic, and that's why nobody seems to understand that guns are effective from long-range"?
@Momentum139 : I'm afraid such brevity would not customarily befit my manner of expository circumlocution, nor would it adequately convey the full gamut of detail. However, and in the spirit of warmth and levity, I heartily concur with your observation and the resulting interpretation, so feel free to grant me the credit for your rendition.
@Momentum139 : Forsaking all else for the moment, I am at the very least magnanimous in my humours, and I can forgive insincere rhetoric even if I contend that context is rarely inflexible (else irony would be lost as an art, if not just inaccurately defined across the pond). Regardless, I accept that your sorrow is quite possibly irreversible, and offer my condolence. Your burden is appreciable.
Motherf*cker, do you come with a British accent...? (if that stereotype is offensive in anyway beyond satirical proportions of this solid context, then I am deeply and irreversibly sorry for my careless ignorance)
@r3gr3ssor They didnt because it would have immediatly led to a counter-kick, loss of balance of the first kicking person which would lead to an untimely death. Kicks are mostly useless in a fight unless you surprise your enemy with it completely.
@ChaosLordOfSwords but if you look at the way they're completely focused on the upper body, a knee would be perfect. close range, and completely out of the blue
@ChaosLordOfSwords But your view is as hypothetical as a surprise-knee/kick successfully landing in the groin, kneecap, shin, or ankle.
With all that said, gun-kata and pretty much every training and fights in the movie indicate that the people in the Equilibrium world do not kick, so a well timed kick has a good chance in catching ppl off guard.
@ChaosLordOfSwords Once you land a solid, strong kick in certain areas, counter kicks don't tend to be a problem.
The crotch for males, heads, hitting the upper legs(thighs) can cause enough trauma to stop the target from retaliating. Kicks aren't useless, otherwise there wouldn't be so many different types of them for different areas.
A proper statement would have been saying it's useless in a gun fight. Which it usually is. Bullets move faster than limbs do. Significantly...
@Xanatos712 the soundquality in this clip is limited. If I remember correctly, the original audiotrack is nice and heavy. Buy the movie, it's worth the money.
@Xanatos712 It has to be that way, otherwise the producers would have to explain why Preston didn't get a pierced eardrum after getting a pistol fired at centimeters of his ear.
@Xanatos712 It has to be that way, otherwise the producers would have to explain why Preston didn't get a pierced eardrum after getting a pistol fired at centimeters of his ear.
@r3gr3ssor in order to do that, you;'d need space, in order to get space between you and your target, and that would give them an oppurtunity to get a round off. so yeah that wouldn't work.
Go to some other video and please give me thumps up for catching this rare movie mistake-
As Christian bale kills Diggs, you can clearly see the sword slipping out of Diggs' hand. JUST after that as he drops down to his knees you can see him holding (for a split second) the sword again. So hilarious in that tense situation, it made me laugh. Obviously i didn't caught that in the first attempt.
Kurt Wimmer originally intended Gun-Kata (the gun martial arts in this movie, I think he developed it himself for this movie) to be more graceful like in the first scene of the movie.
@MTCoblivsicas12345 And I suppose his opponent would have just stood there as he stepped back, not using the time to take aim without it being knocked off then?
They took the gun kata idea from Art of War final scene with Wesley Snipes' vs. Michael Biehn and just extended on it. It's an improvement from that scene, but hardly original.
@imperator332 The lives he took were those of people that were taking a drug to not feel emotion. The villain was saying "i don't take the drug (even though I'm supposed to). can you take the life of someone that feels? Can you take the life of someone that is "alive?"
@soffer The black dude smiled before the sword battle that killed him. In the Polygraph scene, before the boss battle, the remaining survivor flinched and indicated fear when Christian Bale took out everybody. Pretty much points out only the final boss's close subjects do not take the drug.
The ponies over at BronyTV brought me here...

Kurt Wimmer originally intended Gun-Kata (the gun martial arts in this movie, I think he developed it himself for this movie) to be more graceful like in the first scene of the movie.
He tried it again with his movie Ultraviolet.

this fight was so stupid he could of just stepped back and fired round after round in him.
MTCoblivsicas12345 11 months ago
@MTCoblivsicas12345 And I suppose his opponent would have just stood there as he stepped back, not using the time to take aim without it being knocked off then?

Should have brought a knife to this gun fight.
pimpdadysuperman 11 months ago 2
that is..wow....one of the best gun-fight scenes ever. Talk about turning gunfighting on its ear!
chinangel 11 months ago
that was one bloody fight!

They took the gun kata idea from Art of War final scene with Wesley Snipes' vs. Michael Biehn and just extended on it. It's an improvement from that scene, but hardly original.

it would be funny if right before he shoots that guy he just says... I'm Batman.
scarface12347 1 year ago
Seriously? The bad guy is asking if he can take life....in a room surrounded by bodies of people he's already killed.
Can you take life? I mean....besides the 25 guys you already killed....
imperator332 1 year ago 21
@imperator332 The lives he took were those of people that were taking a drug to not feel emotion. The villain was saying "i don't take the drug (even though I'm supposed to). can you take the life of someone that feels? Can you take the life of someone that is "alive?"
tdylan 1 year ago
@imperator332 The thing wasn't if he can take a life. It was if he can take the life of someone who can feel.
PleasedToBeHere1 6 months ago
@imperator332 not to get too technical but he's the only one that feels supposedly the only one truly alive. but yea kind of a weak plea

@soffer The black dude smiled before the sword battle that killed him. In the Polygraph scene, before the boss battle, the remaining survivor flinched and indicated fear when Christian Bale took out everybody. Pretty much points out only the final boss's close subjects do not take the drug.

Out of everything they could have done with this fight, they have a hand to hand pistol/slap fight?
