If I dont find another job really soon or congress dont extend unemployment benefits...im gonna have to go back to the streets...Its not fun here in chicago.
This is the work of the federal reserve, these are the bums that should be on the street..America needs to clean up its own back yard before telling other countries what to do.From Melbourne Vic.
i agree, in the ecomic statement. but don't agree in call remarks,'bum" to people who don't you know, and i saw people cursing people who works, maybe on the street, but job is a job, despite of the hatre and racism. They don't owe nothing to them. they are humans beings like you.
I hope you don't get unemployed, and without contacts, opportunities, race?, etc.
Would it not be better if the US put money into State housing for poorer people. That money is there - all the US has to do is avoid "foreign adventures" - Vietnam and more recently Iraq and Afganistan, which are born of perceptions which are mainly flawed. And draw in other countries such as us in the UK. Helping their own people is far more important than propping up some corrupt Afgan Government. Cannot the US get a grip?
Its only gonna get worse. The government keeps sending billions and trillions of dollars overseas to support all the other country's poverty. Learn how to camp, hunt and grow your own food because thats whats its coming to.
if all the jobs wer taken there would still be people without jobs!this is the way the system is geared up and always be s ignorant comments from people who should think b4 they open their mouths!just cos they brainwashed people into thinking that money and all it brings is natural but it isnt!do some real research and get your heads out of sand!cos theres quite a few who have woken up and are now waiting on the rest,so we can breakfree of prison without bars!zzzz....zzzzz....zzzzz
I don't know why people continue to bother with NYC or the Northeast in general. New York City is great but if you are broke trying to maintain you'll never rise above. Its a big nation out there so stop being a pawn for the Wealthy and just go west. Trust me anyone can make a good NYC pizza however a Buffalo pizza (and wings) have bet yet to be duplicated outside of the 716.
We have the same problems in LA. In fact, it is increasingly hard for people to relocate anywhere. That is what "Nickel and Dimed" is about - poor people seeking a mecca in cities they hope will offer more opportunity (notabley Vegas). When they get there, they find that the same problem exists all over the US - low wages, high rent, and an entrenched class system that does not allow upward mobility.
Have you ever lived outside of LA? I rather be somewhere I can work and still have a quality of life than be somewhere for an address to just say I life there (if you get what I'm saying). Sometimes you gotta just pack up whatever you can place in a bag, get on a greyhound and start over ells where
I took a Greyhound out of small-town IL in 1989 to LA. I had no quality of life there. There were no jobs. I had a college degree but no future. I did not mean to make this about ME. I know lots of people who have passed thru this city and come back because other places are no better if you are poor. The problem is not the town - the problem is the lack of living wage jobs and affordable rent. Enjoy your pizza.
The jump in the homeless population is a combination of poor economic strategies for low income households and a failed mental health system. I'm in Canada and it's the same shitpile. Tragic.
The key may be smaller apartments and values based on square footage. As for me in Asia, due to the population density, even a 120 sq. meter home is considered big, whereas in America, most deem that unlivable. Often times in America, people can't find decent smaller housing, or it's in short supply.
Also, I'm not talking about making new "projects" districts where crime and poverty are rife, rather regular middle class apartment housing on a smaller scale, like that found in Europe and Asia.
New York is full of ridiculously small apartments for ridiculously high rent. You can't shove low income earners into apartment-cells and call that a strategy. There needs to be more assistance for those living in poverty and less for those living lives of corporate luxury.
Excellent point. Excess seems to be a standpoint of American culture. As an American, I see it first hand every day. More is not enough to most people, they need it all. Be it extravagant apartments for a bachelor, or a vehicle that can transport a small army.
The saddest part is that the abundance of palatial housing makes it hard for lower-income families to find decent accommodations due to the average 3 br being in excess of 1300 a month.
Good to see groups try to help people from being homeless, to turning their lives around.

One out of 50—or about 1.5 million—American children are homeless each year, according to a 2009 study by the National Center on Family Homelessness.

In my state, the housing assistance list is 4 years long.
Pretty soon, this country isn't going to be the land of the free- its going to be the land of the orphaned, abandoned, and desperate.

We should create the squatter's law that allows the homeless to occupy otherwise vacant homes or other livable structures.
