Historically I think most of the previous tory governments have been very elitist, just like the US replicans. If I was able to make the decision I would put a cap on child benefit. Any family that earns more than £50k does not need it. However, I'm not in a posistion to make the laws of the land, so I'll back Ed over Cameron!

By the way, Lord Steel wrote a letter to the Daily Telegraph in which he said he is 100% in support of the present Coalition and that it was the only viable solution. He wasn't when talks were in place, and made in clear in a BBC interview he thought a deal between Labour and the Lib Dems would have been the best solution. He and Ashdown support the current government now because it's a done deal and they are powerless to change it. You really should read Ashdowns autobiography, it's very clear his beliefs are more in tune with Labour than the Tories.
