i just bougt 2 robdawrf hammies and chubs keeps biting me.... another problem u forgot is that ur hands have salt in them and hamsters love salt and can smell it so wash ur hands before and after handling them. :)
I tried to start to tame my hamster Dobby today but when my dad tried to pick her up she just squealed and bit him, then later she bit him again, I handed a treat to her I her cage and she was ok with me so please help! How can I stop her from biting because I don't Want to pick her up incase he bites me :o
hey my hamster bella she is a dwarf and she nips. every time i put a treat in my hand she bites my hand first and then gets the treat.so now im scared to even leave the treat in my hand wat should i do?
I have a question. I just got a hamster and it's first reaction at home was nipping the cage bars. Next it was fighting with it's play mate that i bought with it. I moved both of them in different cages. After i did that and let him settle in it's environment i tried to touch it after one day when i first bought it and it bit me. Is there another way to calm a hamster without treats?
Guys can anyone help me? my hamster is like 6 months old and he always slept in his house but now hes started to just lie outside of it and sleep and he doesnt lie the way he normally does but he lies like hes dead...:( my old hamster too started too lie outsied of his house and after a few days he died....whats happening?this one is too young to die....
Thanks for all the tips..I have a question too, what do you do if your hamster doesn't take any treats from you?? and he just ignores you..my dwarf hamster does that..
@ThatsSoTrue21 all animals love treats. it might depend on what you are presenting as a treat. try different fruits and veggies or mealworms. And a hamster won't ignore food if it know's it is there. do you put the treat on the other side of the cage where your hamster is? get him excited about it. hang it on a bell or place it on his wheel. Your hamster will notice it eventually if you present it to him.
When hamsters bite do they nibble first or do they clamp down quickly cause I have a robo dwarf hamster and he nibbles on my hand a lot but everytime he does I pull out my hand should I leave it in there? Please answer! Great video too :)
@TokyoJapenese it really depends. sometimes a hamster nibbles as a warning to bite and sometimes nibbling is just a sign of harmless curiosity. doe's your hamster do it all the time? what situation are you in when he/she bites you? does she/he look calm? puffed fur? And if your hamster is nibbling as a warning to a bite and she is showing other moody behaviors at the moment, it's best to leave he/she alone for the moment and try appraching her later. again, is this all the time?
@cavylova891011 No she does this sometimes like when i put my hand flat down on the cage and her fur isn't puffed when she does this. She looks calm and she has never bitten me so far i got her a week ago thx for replying to my comment i'll subscribe
@Freakyfreaksish I said to keep your hand out of her reach so she cant bite YOU. only the treat. try hanging a long piece of lettuce into the cage while your hand is at the top so she can't reach your hand. try to get her attention on the lettuce and follow on from there like i said in my other comments.
@Freakyfreaksish i understand that, Rhino use to bite me like that. like i said, start with a piece of lettuce or her favorite treat, hold it in the tip tips of your fingers. let her have the treat and take your hand out again. She's feeling intimidated that there is a "hand" thingy in her cage and thinks you want to grab her and her usual instinct is to defend. Read my first comment to you for why she bites you. anywayz, go slowely with the process and once she gets used to hand=food, good luck
@Freakyfreaksish oops! sorry. how bout very slowely reaching your hand in while your holding some food with only your fingertips. Only let him get the food and take your hand back out again. then over the course of a week or two, start getting closer and closer to the bottom of the cage and move the food in your hand closer and closer to your palm. If he bites you somewhere in between the process, backtrack a bit.
@Freakyfreaksish that is because they don't like a "foreign" object they haven't considered yet inside their cage. They take this sudden invasion of their home as an offence. try feeding your hamster some treats while your hand is outside of the cage. Feed your hamster the treat through the bars of the cage. After he/she gets used to the idea that "the hand" provides food while outside the cage, slowely start introducing opening the door with a small food in your hand. (look at my other comment)
very informative video but I don't think removing your hand when they bite you isn't that good either, won't they associate biting = removing scary flesh thing? That's just my theory. Rhino is very adorable especially when he was half stuck in the tube. His cage looks a little bare maybe you could get him a couple wooden toys to play with? :)
@AwayLemonade thank you. and i've thought of that too but when hamsters are scared, keeping then scared and being convinced that scary thing is not going away is not going to help anything. thank you again. and i've added chews and there are blocks behind and in his house. he's just hidden them away to play with ;)
i just bought a hamaster and when i put my finger inside the cage it started to bite can you answer that please

@jon1998724, a uncooked carrot you should never give a small animal cooked food. :)
SuperCherubi 2 weeks ago
Jeez that cage is tiny. Hamsters need lots of room to explore. Mines got a massive cage.

Hamsters May Also Bite Because They Think Your Finger Is A Chew Toy.

DaVo6565 maybe you need to change the cage more often. Sometimes i peak in my hamsters dome when she is sleeping and she lies weird.

ThatsSoTrue21 7 months ago
@ThatsSoTrue21 it depends what kind of nuts. some are very unhealthy. try unsalted pumpkin seeds. hamsters love them!

@Freakyfreaksish If all that goes succsesfully, start slowely reducing the amount of food you give from your hand.
