  • are you dutch? or did you lived in holland?

  • Some mans "waste of money" is another man's treasure. I have everything on this list (minus a .22 pistol). I have a few extra selections in some of those categories and I sure don't feel like I've wasted my money. Some are going up significantly in value. ;) Overall I agree with your list though.

  • You need 3 or 4, 1 - Concealed Carry. 2 - Home Defence Handguns 3 - Recreational Rifle 4 - Home defence/recreational shotgun.

  • I agree with this only if a person just wants firearms to cover the basics. I disagree with this if you just like shooting different guns. I happen to like shooting different guns so I buy alot and sell alot. I have guns that I will only take out on special occasions and others I take to the range every time because I like shooting it and then I have a few that are just to show off to people that I have shot maybe once. I agree with you and disagree with you...no harm in that.

  • Why do you carry/own a Glock 19 - gen 3?

  • thats kind of funny because the cencus says that the average gun owner owns 7 guns

  • Even 7 kinda sounds like a lot LOL. But yeah, you make a good point. It's not good to spend tons of money on guns, and then not much on ammo or training. Or even just other things in life.

  • nice i have exactly 7 guns lol

  • Dang.. only 7 guns. 7 guns is still a lot! lol

  • can anybody tell me whats the point of money? I can't do much with it except spend it on something i want or need. i would rather have less money and more stuff. stuff like guns that I could sell or shoot or what have you. I have been in a lot of situations where i said damn i wish i had that thing i saw in the store that would be so helpful. never has money cleaned a gun after i shoot it gun oil does. so why would i want money when i could have guns. is that the point of life? get money and die

  • A lever action rifle in at least 30-30 would be a good alternative to a bolt action rifle (plus I have a preference for lever action). Otherwise great video.

  • I have an 10/22 38 snub 45 acp hi point whats your thoughts on the 45 hi point carbine and the savage model 10 in 308.thxs for a nice vid

  • I'd venture to say taht those knocking you "limiting to 7 guns" have little to no ammo for their collection and, more importantly, NO SPARE PARTS for commonly replaced parts. ie firing pins, springs, extractors and in the case of the AR-15/M-16/M-4 family- gas rings. A gun that doesn't work or is out of ammo is a club. Thanks for making me think. Now I know I need more spare parts for my primary guns.......and you didn't even suggest it, but got me thinking. Thanks!

  • Good, sound advice as I have come to expect.. My only suggestion, if you may call it that, is what Boston T. Party (Ken Royce) refers to as a "trunk gun" in his excellent book "Boston's Gun Bible". It can be any inexpensive long gun that you keep in your trunk, should you be caught up in an unexpected situation. An Enfield or SKS might fit the bill nicely, although I find the SKS ideal for this type of carry.

Great shooting with taht snubby while backing away at the end of the video.

  • Thanks for the video. Been shooting since I was 7 years old with a .22 pumps Winchester . Now that same model cost 1,200 dollars . These toys are engineering marvels but should be treated with respect. The only thing that I need now is a good handgun but there so many to choose from. Maybe a Glock or an HK. Thanks again.

  • Great video ! Thanks for the time you spent making this for everyone. Confirms my thoughts as to the right combinations and calibers..

  • For me I feel four is good. A semi auto .223 for fun, a .45 for HD, also a 12 ga for HD, and a small .40 for concealment. All that's left I guess is a big knife, and my legislators email address.

  • @BoomerQ That makes sense.

  • I currently have a S & W 9mm and a Remington 22 LR Rifle. Soon I'll be getting a Mossberg 12 Gauge kitt w/ both barrels. Can you recommend a good Bolt action game rifle plz. Thx Drew

  • hmm, mossberg 500 springfield 1911, 357 mag snubby, ar15 variant, m1a, xdm 9mm

  • You need ONE gun. Everyone needs one. I have 10 or so because I WANT them.

  • 2....one for each hand

  • I have a secret bunker stocked with food, water ect ect I was looking to arm myself just Incase with a AR15, shotgun, 2 hand guns maybe 9mm or 38! Other than protecting myself and kids oh yeah the wife to :-/ i'm willing to trade her for a monkey if u have one who can get my remote control and cigars! Is this enough guns to hold the fort down? Thank you..

  • This video is absolutely worthless.

    Why these 7 guns?

    Why not buying more?

    Why not buying less?

This entire video was presented in a matter that would suggest you had a reason for this line of thinking, but instead it was all opinion with no supporting logic or reason.

I'd give this video an F.

  • @cyberslick18 Worthless? It may not be your cup of tea, but he did give a well-rounded list of gunsto own, which I agree with the exception of adding a trunk gun.

He didn't say don't buy more or less, it was his personal OPINION, and a sound one at that. Worthless? Do you just get off on being an asshole?

  • I have a spikes tact ar to.

  • I forgot, this is obviously for the lower 48, my friends in Alaska tell me you need at least one "dishwashing gun" Something like the Ruger .454 Alaskan that you keep on your person for doing camp chores and such. I am told that when your rifle is in the tent and you are doing dishes is when Murphy says a really big bear will show up.

  • Good video.

I used to be a collector, but not really since I was more of a gun accumulator. I have pared my battery down to what I am really going to use and getting rid of the safe queens.

Nice to know one has their bases covered with useful stuff. I used to own, as an example, an HK VP70Z. Seriously, WTF was I thinking?

  • one more

  • Nice, but to me 7 is still to many. I have four: Sig 556, Remington 870, Sig 226 and S&W 637.

  • @HellaFlushEvo

You really need to throw a .22 into the mix, just one guy's opinion.

I am also a big believer in having two of your primary carry pistol, or very similar such as Glock 17 and 19. If you shoot enough you will break your gun at some point. If you use your gun in self defense it will end up in the evidence locker, perhaps for a long time.

Best to have a spare in the safe instead of wondering what to do next.

  • I kind of agree with what you are saying, but then again I dont. From what I see, most shooters shoot for fun, and if a different weapon fulfills its goal in procuring happiness in a different way, buy it if you can.

  • Great video! I thought I was alone in this mindset great to have someone echo my sentiments. I join your comments and add the one remaining item you overlooked. Owning these guns is one thing but you need to be able to use them proficiently and quickly. My list is M1A, Rem 870 slug barrel and vent rib,Sig 226, Rem 700 in 300WinMag, S&W Revolver 357/38, Ruger 10/22, and lastly 9Shot revolver Taurus 22lr. Then practice with each til it becomes second nature.

  • great im covered!!!

  • there really isn't a use for a 18inch shotgun i feel it really robs the gun of its power and range but thats just me i guess

  • Great rationale. I agree and these are the guns I have.

  • How Many Guns Do You Need?....enough to start an army

  • You can never have too much ammo though

  • Call me a minimalist, but I don't even think people need 7. Due to most peoples' lack of training time, I'd say a couple of pistols and a rifle are a good way to go. That way one isn't training to use so many formats that they aren't becoming completely proficient in at least one. Due to the nature of most domestic violence in the US, I'd say it's by far most important for one to become proficient with a pistol. If that's all time allows for, that's all I'd train with. Just my 2 cents, YMMV.

  • i sold alot of my guns to pay off bills but i still own a ruger 10/22 22lr

    AR-15 5.56 AK47 7.62x39 Beretta px4 storm 9mm & 9mm px4 storm subcompact beretta tomcat 32acp & mossin nagant 7.62x54R. i sold my m9 my 92fs my s&w40cal and im still trying to sell my AR-15 nobodys wants to buy a rifle for 700.00 like WTF!

  • Springfield 1911, Daniel Defence M4 (14.5" SBR), and Springfield M1A. That is all I have an need. If needed for home defense, I can also pick up some things from around the house. My 94 year old Grandmother still sleeps with a King James Bible with my Grandfather's Colt 1911 that he used in WW2. She can still shot the thing which scares the shit out of me. That is the only gun she has and says she will ever need. And yes, she keeps it loaded.

  • I'm a collector or vintage and modern militaria, so I have quite a bunch...~40 if I had to guess (I've lost count a while back). I need to get a hold on my obsession with the AK, I just bought my fifth AK variant a coupe months ago, haha.

  • While your logic is flawless, the answer to your original question is 2 more than you have now. As long as the guns won't be collecting rust in a safe, buy as many as you want. 7 should be the minimum.

    (only half serious here...)

  • i love world war 2 rifles :) <3 mosin nagant

  • I try to buy 1 of every caliber...rifles and pistols

  • @afr1c4np3ngu1n thats going to be tough

  • @VuurwapenBlog,wow I couldnt agree with you more because I have always thought that 7 is the right of firearms to own. as of right now I only own 4 handguns:Glock 19GEn4, Beretta 92FS,Beretta PX4 storm (40 cal), Sig Sauer 220(45 acp). In a couple weeks I will be getting a Benelli M4 12 gauge semi auto shotgun, a ruger 1022 rifle and then get an Ar15 in about 6 months, then maybe get a remington 700.

  • I am going to go with, D all of the above.

  • I have a: remington .22 bolt action, savage arms .22 semi auto, and a sig sauer mosquito .22 desert tactical camo. AND I'M ONLY 12!!! (.22s are just great, and cheap)

  • i perfer a knife, more up close and personal!

  • I have friends that have a lot of cheap guns and I wish they would sell them and buy a few good guns. Your selection is right on!

  • an AR-15 can do the duty of three of your catagories, it all depends on the upper recivcer of the firearm. A .223 upper is good as a carbine. There are uppers in 6.8, .450 bushmaster, and uppers with 1:7 twists that can shoot heavy bullets, throw a scope on there you have a simi auto hunting rifle capable of taking meduim sized game. i think the make "conversion kits that shoot .22lr also.

  • Brilliant break down of the selected weapons that would make a proper collection. What is your opinion of including weapons such as the Mosin-Nagant and / or the Swiss K-31 from the surplus vantage point?

  • @BennyTheJett1 I have a Mosin, I prefer the Enfield though. The K31 is a great rifle but I can find 7.62x54R or .303 much easier in local gun stores than 7.5 Swiss.

  • Another great vid, thanks for sharing.

  • I just buy guns I like that are practical and useful. Except for the draco ak, that's one exception lol

  • Why do woman buy so many shoes? when you can tell me that then i will tell you how many guns i need to own. Right no reason just cause i like them

  • Good insight, but guns are a better investment than most things.

  • m14, colt 1911, winchester 1892 < cause its sexy, a little 22 probably a henry... andddd a handcannon just for the hell of it =p

  • Good video. You expressed your opinion in an educated manner. Personally I follow quite similar thoughts. i.e. have .22LR rifle (CZ-452), .223 Centrefire (Sako 75), .270 Centrefire (Sako 75), 12 Gauge shotgun (Remington 870) and Semi Auto Centrefire (Molot Vepr .308). No handguns, as they are restricted in my neck of the woods.

  • nice channel indeed..:)

  • Then again, if all of my guns were being taken away and I was given the choice to keep one....

.... it would be my WW2-era M1 Garand. Hands down. Not even a difficult decision. 8 rounds of semi-auto 30-06, in a rifle that was made back when they made things simple and proper. I effing love that gun.

  • I consider "need" based on the mobility factor. As in, considering what you need if you are forced to be on the move. This involves keeping weight down.

    The answer is 3.

Long to medium range: AR-type rifle with a scope mounted on top, and iron sights mounted on a 45 degree angle. (they use these in competitions).

Medium range: Short-barrel tactical shotgun. Example: Mossberg 590A1.

Close range: Pistol. 9 to 40 to 45. Pick one.

Of course, you might also need a 22 for small game.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree 100% - my choices are: 9mm (+p) for backup/service/school weapon (more bullets for the weight and a greatly increased mag capacity), 7.62x39 for the mag fed rifle (can also hunt whitetail/med game with Remington Softpoints), 300 win mag bolt action (various loads can cover ALL the animals in north america to include grizzlies), 12gauge shotgun (3"+) capability for foul game and defense, 22lr for varmints and schooling the kids - can also be used for defense by anyone.

  • Buying guns ,owning guns is a Right . I truly dont think you should tell anybody not to own too many guns,. just my 2 cents. I say buy as many Firearms and shoot them all,get proficient with all of them and use common sense.

  • I agree with your completely. I have a friend who brags that he has XX amount of firearms, but in reality most of them are low quality and redundant.

  • great video and great breakdown!

the only type i dont have is the .22lr pistol. all the other types, it was like you knew what i had. kinda creepy lol

  • So, ruger mini 14, r700 .308, mossberg 500, marlin 795, FNP-40, Glock 27, and a browning buck mark. I better start saving up.

  • Though I see your practical point of view, I don't see the need to buy some of those types of guns. .22s are always fun, semi-auto center-fire guns like the AR15 are great. Bolt actions are good too, but I only use them if I want to improve my accuracy. My dad recently purchased a USP .45, but not the compact. As far as compact pistols go, my dad doesn't carry, so he doesn't need one. As of know we only need one, if we need i for defense. My dad and I are the only ones who shoot, we rarely buy.

  • great video, i like the list very useful

  • You do realize that this is like telling people that eating anything besides the barest sustenance is "wasting money"? Variety is the spice of life, man.

  • Not a bad list. I personally can't seem to buy a gun without some personal justification for its use. I have a duty gun, a nostalgia gun (my first duty gun, which is basically a part of a collection now), a 1911 for open carry, a G23 for concealed, an LCP for ankle backup, and a patrol rifle. If I decide that I like a new one better than what I have, I generally have to trade unless I come up with a justification for it. New justifications include a .22LR target rifle, an IDPA 9mm, and a shotgun

  • I own 8 handgun, 2 - 556's, and 2 -12ga pumps. Only because as I upgrade I keep my old ones. I carried a 9mm 92F for 25 years so with I needed a 40cal I kept the 9, and so on..

  • STFU u stupid nerd. U don't no shit about guns and would probably start crying if u ever had to use one lol

  • @Piritu The video maker has been a corpsman in theater, and knows more than most about guns. Check out vuurwapen blog for a taste. Careful who you tell to STFU.

  • Yeah, spend the money on ammo instead.

  • L1A1, Gen4 G20 and Gen4 G29.

    Anything I'm missing?

  • AKM, G23. Great video Brother

  • Very nice video! I would add only two items to it - a handgun/revolver and rifle/carbine that share at least the ammunition type. Example (in my case) are S&W 666 and Marlin 1894 in 357 Mag and Beretta M9 and CX4 Storm - both pairs share on load type.

  • I also started with a list similar to this and now that I have the basics i buy guns that I think are interesting or fun.

  • My guess is the we all come to this same conclusion after owning lots of guns for many years. Same thing happened to me couple of years back. After a while you realize all pistols and rifles are basically the same, you pick the system (DA/SA, Strker fired or SA in the pistols for example) that you like the most and throw away the rest.

Now I'm even reluctant to try new systems until they have proven themselves over a few years.

  • I'm glad this is America and that I can "waste" my money on whatever I want and how many I want as well.

  • I need two of everything...that is all.

j/k, That is pretty much the same kind of list that I came up with on my own. I want to have those basics covered before I branch out or target my firearms hobby to a particular niche.

  • Great video, very relevant topic! I definitely see newcomers and future buyers using this video as an aide! Also for some of the other viewers the word NEED should not be overlooked in the title!

  • They do the same thing with Arc'teryx gear. They buy the exact same outfits the dynamic duo wears. I know one guy who actually goes as far as getting the same hair cut and beard as costa.

  • I know some people who like to buy all the newest guns and gear just to post their pics on Facebook and show off. They like to buy exact copies of those "2 dynamic guys" guns. Most of the time it's guys who have no wife or kids. They love the fact that people are so jealous of them and they kiss industry folk ass like no other! I seriously think their life goals are to get the phone numbers of the dynamic duo.

  • I agree

  • You made good sense with this. With any firearm you need to be able to use what you have which means practice,

  • You're right, you don't need six different ARs and four different AKs along with an FN FAL and FN SCAR-17S. I think that it's probably a good idea to have all the bases covered before you start amassing large numbers of similar weapons. That said, it's hard to do when you're constantly in fear of another AWB. If Obama doesn't get re-elected, I'll stop acquiring so many 'assault' rifles.

  • Agree. I have all but the Mag Fed. semi auto...eg AR-15 etc. But spot on fo ALL the rest. may post response vid

  • Great video, however, this opinion is very biased as I share and have lived out this exact philosophy. Its a subject that most enthusiasts overlook/oversimplify. These seven tools, paired with ample familiarization, can tackle just about anything N. America can throw at you (Game or Human Threat). I consider the list of 7 as a barebones must and have found no "TRUE" need for much else. Packaged together, these 7 firearms are my NRA approved Swiss Army Knife. Thanks for the great video.

  • "Be aware of the man with only one gun - he probably knows how to use it".

  • buy as many as you want. Guns are real assets that can't be printed out of thin air like some fiat currency.

  • great video... i guess i have to sell a few handguns. =) I slowly turn into a collector instead of a shooter

  • Great video as usual. While I may not agree with the angle you derive your perspective from on this one, I certainly agree with the logic of you categorization. I do not think it is anyone's place to determine what should be someone's motivation for buying guns or anything else for that matter. Otherwise, SPOT on for your logic of possible "Categories" of firearms someone filling their tool box may want to consider. You need various screw drivers, wrenches, and...guns. Thanks

  • @NOLATAC Thanks. While I do not want to determine anyone else's motivation, I will take the opportunity to point out that the emperor has no clothes if the situation calls for it. ;)

  • @VuurwapenBlog Fair enough!

  • This video makes me feel bad for having as many guns as I do....:(

  • I wholeheartedly agree with your 7 gun philosophy. Great video.

  • Thearmorychannel needs to watch this video really bad! LOL

  • Nice job expressing your viewpoint -- as always.

Now, I could see 7 videos to follow this one, each explaining your rationale for owning the specific type of firearm in question. :D

  • @mz9393mz Thanks - and thanks for being the catalyst that led to this video.

  • Thanks, now I have a plan.

  • I actually agree with everything said in the vid re which gun types.

I guess that means Vuurwapen is smart. Therefore I'm smart. And now I can feel good about myself. Alright.

But seriously, a lot of sense made here.

  • I agree. If I had to shorten down your list to the bare minimum. It'd be: Service pistol, Semi Auto Carbine (ak or ar), Bolt action precision rifle, and Shotgun (pump variety).

  • @clap5 I would throw in a .22

  • @frankgon4

ehhh...Yea, and I figured someone would bring that up. But for me...all four systems will do everything you can think of. The .22 is cost effective, typically light weight in most platforms. But I would not sacrifice any of my 4 picks for any .22 that is out there. Personally.

  • Just enough. Haven't found how many is enough yet.

  • Great videos, keep them coming!

One thing though, is it possible to make the thunder at the beginning and end of the videos slightly less loud so that it more closely matches the volume of your narration?

  • @karn1v0r I will make an effort to do this, thanks for letting me know.

  • I agree buying to buy is just glutony in a sense and really like the 7 basic categories idea though personally i would vary on how many in each categoy i would ie i love the .45 caliber an its many vaiants from 45 gap to 45-70 so along that group are many different firearms but i pursue it as a a sense of one o two in each variant max.

  • Thanks for this video. I agree 100% thats all you need.

  • I completely agree that there are basic firearm "categories," and that a well prepared person/gun enthusiast should have at least one of each, another criteria I value is affordability of ammunition. .22lr guns cover this area for the most part, but 9mm and Soviet caliber conversions/guns also fall into this category, while not necessarily always being ideal for serious use. Guns are pretty cheap compared to the ammo if you shoot much.

  • I say buy buy buy!!!

The more you buy the more on the used market lol

Buy what you can when you can. If you run out of room... Bury them

  • I Love Your Video's..

BUT!! I have to say that!! Guns are soooooooo pretty.. just like motor cycles or cars.. or surf boards.. it is hard to not want more of a good thing.

BUT! Like you said.. if someone can afford the toys then it makes more sense..

I would like to Thank You for drawing attention to guns in the sense that a gun is a tool and different guns are for different jobs. Not enough people post video's with good factual information.

    Be Well and God Bless!

  • "How many guns do you need?" is different from "how many guns do you want?"

  • Good god! Seven firearms basic? I was planning on just two myself...

  • @Hyperpulsehammer Well, seven firearms to cover almost every situation in which you could possibly need a firearm. You could definitely get by with less.

  • Great Video. I say own more spare parts over more guns and spend the difference on practice ammo. I agree very much with your guidelines.

  • I absolutely loved this video! I have my own list which I'm far from completion.

Handgun: Glock 19, Ruger MarkIII 22/45, Ruger SP101

    Rifle: AK47, Ruger 10/22, Remington 700

    Shotgun: Remington 870 Express

Off course I have a few other guns on my list (Ruger LCP, KelTecSub2000, 1911, an AR15,...), but this is what I feel "I NEED".

    Great Vid!

  • I believe at min you should have

    2 x AR 15

2 x full size pistols same caliber

    1 x .22 lr pistol

    1x .22lr rifle

    1x shotgun

    1x bolt action rifle

  • I totally agree...I would also include a 22 LR conversion kit for an AR, for the same reason you should have one for your service handgun...just my 2 cents

  • I prefer fewer guns and more mags, ammo, accessories etc. I've slimmed down my arsenal considerably just to free up space (my house was starting to look creepy, lol)

Excellent list btw. Digging that DAK 226 and S&W snubby. I still hoard pistols though.... I need help I guess haha

  • Great video...
