@Calmplex2g you can get free software to record from youtube. You can get real player download. Or you can do it with easy cd creator. You don't need to pay $69 for wiretap studio

@samlellison I find Soundflower has too many buffering issues that it is a pain to deal with. On the free side though, Audio Hijack works quite nice too.

This pisses me off, when i hit whatever pad, lets say 1 twice, the sample starts playing againg on top of it, what do i have to do to make it play only when im holding in the pad '?

@alexknaz set the polyphony to 1 for that sound. By default it is set to 8, meaning the sample will play on top of itself 8 times

Recording through hijack is a long way around when you could cut out that middle man and just sample the source directly into maschine.

@msg27 There is a big difference between "playing" and instrument and actually writing, producing, engineering, administering, releasing, promoting SONGS. Yeah, there are A LOT of people that steal music and incorporate it in their compositions these days, AND there are also a lot of people who rob banks and embezzle money too. It is illegal. Try and get one of your compositions played in a film, TV or radio without getting the sample cleared by the publisher and record company. Good luck.

@skykomusic It isn't illegal when somebody clears the sample with the original artist. There are stories of older musicians who have had their music rediscovered by a new genration after being sampled. This proves to be very lucrative for both artists. Ray Charles' estate gets PAID when Kanye hits big with Gold Digger, not to mention people go purchase and discover his music.

You bring up a good point though. It can be foolish for a lot of people to attempt sampling if they wish to publish

@mcsg27 It is illegal even if you cleared the original artist. There is no law that forgive you to use other people's copyrighted material WITHOUT PERMISSION. If the company , which has the copyright , orders you to pay the royalties you are to pay appropriate amout of it. There may be some consideration in educational usage but never be for comercial usage.

Wiretap looks good but using Soundflower would be much easier. It routes audio coming from applications on your Mac to virtual inputs. You can then sample the sounds directly in Maschine.

hey just purchase this software for my maschine but i cant get it to work correctly threw my mbox 2, it only records sound from the cpu mic input, which makes the audio sound crappy, i cant figure what settings i need to change to get it to run threw my mbox correctly, without the mbox i get it to run correctly but with the mbox connected is doesnt recieve any sound

Couldnt you just put the track into Audacity and take the same part of the sample without paying 69 dollars?. Im sure their are plenty of other pieces of software that will do it for free aswell.

@Alkemy007 Audacity is free and you can edit the music in it, but Wiretap actually records the music and chops it. Using Audacity, you would have to find a way to actually record the samples first to bring them in. That entails either using another program to record online material or physically rerouting cables into your soundcard.

Wiretap is quick and easy and does it all - thats why it is worth the money

@mcsg27 But I can put a whole track into Audacity, highlight the part I want and cut the rest out. That leaves me with the drum beat I want. I then save it as an mp3 and pop it into Maschine. I dont get what Wiretrap does that is so special. Maybe it dont record online material but all you gotta do to bypass this is buy the mp3 at around 79 pence and then take the part you want from Audacity. Also leaving you with an mp3 that may come in handy again.

@Alkemy007 true. but what if you want to record something you cannot find for purchase? This is great for movie quotes, things you find on YouTube, videos, etc.

For me, Wiretap is great because it does all of this, and WAY faster than going about it any other way. The speed matches the worklow speed of Maschine nicely.

@MRSTYLES1825 yeah i have the same thing, im a PC producer. I use Total Recorded and/or Virtual Audio Cable, they do the same thing but for windows.

Interesting method. I used to do a similar method with Soundflower a good while back and later found ways to do it without any extra software at all. The method I use now is drastically, I'm not using Maschine a lot lately, though. Regardless, it's always cool to see how others do it. Good video.

High Criteria Total Recorder will record all sounds played through your sound card if you want an alternative to Wiretap.

Also there is FREE software that lets you capture the sound output of your computer into a audio file: Audio Hijack

Granted it does not have a built-in sound editor, but as you demonstrated in your video you can edit the audio in Maschine or whatever other audio editing software you already have.

@bigwev101 I used to use Soundflower to do this, but I found that Wiretap was better because I didn't have to be constantly changing my audio/midi setup every time I wanted to sample. I simply found that this was a better way to sample because of the editor and library manager.
