@muddymuddmudmann Hi Scotty, Um, the Friends Thing turns out to be to do with the New Format. I still have no Friend Activity on my Account page, & they've changed the Friend Approval Process. Instead of a simple 'Approve' option, now I get a 'Reply' button ; and I have to send a PM to approve the Friend, whose Activity isn't listed anyway ! @muddymuddymuddmann Ah, yes... Clear Pyrex, either under a Hood & Flue, inside, for Twisty Lighting ; or outside at night, to attract and fry the Mosquitos...! Segue... There are still 123 Sub's, and I cannot believe that ALL the hundred plus Friends I've approved have evaporated simultaneously. Damn CIA & Yt !
@WarblesOnALot YA IF I COULD USE A TEMPERED GLASS TUBE WITH THE HOLES ANGLED FOR READY BURN, IT WOULD MAKE A COOL CONVERSATION PIECE LIGHTING. TOO BAD IT WOULD NEED TO BE OUTSIDE. OR HAVE AN EXHAUST FLEW.
I got a good application for this design. Combine your burner that is started on liquid fuel, use that to heat a closed insulated barrel, that when filled with wood, has a air tight seal, is then plumed to the stove for the wood gas to power the stove.
The resulting soft carbon is perfect for crushing into a powder, then made into charcoal briquettes using water and old paper
if you added insulation to your burner it would be even more efficient. Home business making charcoal?
Thank you for sharing this! I am going to have a go with one of these, so I can heat the greenhouse and patio this winter. That little innov of yours means a very thorough fuel burn indeed., which expands the range of fuel you can use in it. Someone buddy with me on this?
@VolkgartenBySquirrel THANKS! WWEEE! I ALREADY HAVE A NEW IDEA FOR THIS BURNING MARVEL. THE BURN I SHOWED ON THIS WAS JUST ALCOHOL. BUT I HAVE ADDAPTED IT FOR WOOD. THE VIDEO WILL BE SHOWING SOON. I NEED TO MAKE IT BIGGER TO HOLD A WHOLE LOG, OR MORE FUEL. I BELIEVE YOU WILL ENJOY THE NEW DESIGN.
I wonder how well it would burn a handfull of twigs and sticks ? It would probably get the can red-hot ? That was really cool - aerodynamics mixed with thermodynamics.
@mrnewagemotor YUP ALL I HAVE TO DO IS ADD A CHAMBER UNDER THE TWISTER PART TO MAKE THAT WORK. I GOT IT BUILT BUT NOT ATTATCHED YET. I FIGURE I HAD BETTER NOT JUST USE ALUMINUM FOIL TAPE THIS TIME. LOL. I FIGURE THAT IF THE TWIGGS BURN JUST AS HOT, BUT FOR 30 MINUTES OR MORE, THE TAPE WOULD NOT DO MUCH FOR THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE AT ALL. LOL.
@MudRFunR YA I got the wood part of this idea practically figured out now. just gotta get time to try it.
I got a friend that does nothing but weld new car exhaust systems all day. He said i can get as much old pipe and mufflers as i want. He's got one of those huge dumpsters that they haul off on the flat bed trucks. I stood looking at all the possabilities for 20 minutes. looks like welding candy to me.
@muddymuddymuddmann Ya picked a good day to reply to this. We just rolled in from Tennessee late last night. I drove for 15 hours yesterday. ( with pit stops) SOUTHERN FOLK ARE JUST GREAT!!!
@MudRFunR YA AIN'T THEY THOUGH! I WAS SO GLAD TO GET BACK IN TEXAS THAT I STOPPED AT THE FIRST REST AREA AND WALKED A FEW MINUTES, ND I BENT DOWN AND KISSED THE GROUND. AN OLD MAN LAUGHED AND SAID, SO YOU'VE BEEN AWAY FOR A WHILE HUH? YUP! ... I THINK IT WAS THE BEST GREETING I COULD HAVE GOTTEN. SO DID YOU GET USED TO THE ACCENT WHILE YOU WERE IN TENN.? LOL.
Great video if you could feed that a drop of fuel at a time when it needs it, I think it would burn for hours. try a air band on the bottom and see if you can slow the burn rate down or speed it up?
@58belvedere AIR BAND, LIKE AN ADJUSTABLE CARB. I WAS THINKING OF ADJUSTABLE CABS ON BOTH THE WOOD AND THE AIR MIX WHEN I DO THE WOOD GAS VERSION. THE DRIP THING IS USED IN CAR WASHES THAT USE USED MOTOR OIL FOR HOT WATER HEATING. THE PAN THAT IT DRIPS ON IS VERY HOT AND ATOMIZES THE OIL AND MIXES IT WITH THE AIR REALLY FAST. IT BURNS THAT OIL FAST AND HOT. I HAD PLENTY OF USED OIL WITH THE OLD CAB BUSINESS I HAD. WE HAD A SMALL HOLE FOR A TUBE AND DRIP IN THE WOOD STOVE IN THE SHOP. NICE!
That was interesting to see the vortex in the chimney.
Not sure how you want to progress this, but if you kind find a Turkish shop somewhere near to you, ask to see their (Turkish) barbeques. They are usually a cheap construction, basically a galvanised box on legs with (the interesting part for you) a lid that has a long chimney in the centre. They work very well and heat up the coals/wood very quickly.
@Aydosh1991 I'LL CHECK THAT OUT. IT SOUNDS LIKE I COULD ADAPT IT FOR A REAL NICE PROTOTYPE. IT MIGHT NOT NEED TO MUCH. IF IT ALREADY GASIFIES THE WOOD GOOD ENOUGH, I JUST MIGHT KEEP IT AS IS.
@JJolaine Yes I am curious too, the twisting spiral is cool. I asked infered in my post about practical aplications but I think he just likes playing with fire, he he...
@JJolaine IT WAS A TEST FOR THE MIXING OF AIR IN A TWISTING CARB. TRYING TO GET A BETTER MIX. I USED ALCOHOL, WITH THE IDEA FOR MAKING A BETTER TURBO WOOD STOVE. FOR COOKING WITH VERY LITTLE WOOD. LIKE A HAND FULL OF STICKS. THE ISEA IS TO CARB UP THE WOOD GAS AND BURN IT FOR A CLEANER BURN AND 75 TO 90 % MORE HEAT EFFICIENCY.
nice video muddy. I tried to make a rocket stove the other day and when I tested it, it didn't do so good. Used a Glade furniture polish can. Thick walled, and 2 soda cans for the outside. The inner can melted before the flame really started to become intense. Maybe try another one later. Keep'em coming man.
SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS PRETTY FUN. MELTING THE TIN CAN IS GOOD HEAT. TOO BAD YOU DIDNT GET TO SEE THE FULL HEAT BEFORE THE GLADE CAN MELTED. MAYBE SOME PIPE WOULD BE GOOD.
@InvalidMemberAccount POINT TAKEN. THANKS. IT WILL UNDERGO MODIFICATION FOR USING WOOD, AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL BURN THE GAS LIKE IT DID HERE. YOUR INPUT IS WELCOME, GIVE ME MORE IF YOU WISH. THANKS
@InvalidMemberAccount Gasifier describes the bio gas extraction and re-entry into the burning process. There are gasifier stoves and rocket stoves, sometimes two different things. If Muddy would add wood fuel into the chamber he would lose his upwards draft twister effect that happens because of the draft and the velocity of the rapidly burning fuel. I don’t think that would happen he loves to watch it; I am waiting to see the food cooking….
@walkertongdee OF CORSE I LOVE WATCHING IT. IT'S SO PRETTY..LOL. I PLAN ON MAKING THE WOOD CHAMBER UNDER THE TWISTED HOLES FOR RECARBORATION AND SECOND BURN. THAT WAY THE CHAMBER MAKES THE WOOD GAS AND THEN THE GAS ENTERS THE TWISTER. IT SHOULD WORK.
I'm giving up on this basic kind of design. Without a fan these stoves don't work well. Maybe your's will, with that humongous tall chimney, but in order to cook with it, it'd need to be braced, plus you'll burn fuel fast, and it'd be near impossible to add additional fuel. My opinion, after making 5 or 6 of these gassifier stoves, is that, while they DO work, and they burn pretty clean, they aren't a good alternative to a simple alcohol stove with this basic configuration. I'll something else.
@jwwm2 TIME WILL TELL ON MAKING THIS TWISTER CARB WORK FOR WOOD. I THINK WITH ADJUSTABLE CONTROLS FOR AIR TO THE WOOD, AND AIR TO THE WOOD GAS, I COULD PROBABLY MAKE IT COOK EFFICIENT AND ADJUST THE HEAT TO. MY ALCOHOL GAS STOVES ARE PRETTY HANDY AND SMALL TOO. I USED ONE FOR 6 MONTHS FOR ALL MY COOKING. THEY ARE DEFINITLY RELIABLE.
@muddymuddymuddmann Maybe you'll be the one to make a cheap, non-powered wood gassifier cooking stove with this basic design practiable. I absolutely hope you can do it, and if it CAN be done, you'll be the one that does it. Personally, I'm not giving up on a simple, wood-fired gassifier stove, but I will now focus in another direction. I'll have something else soon...
@jwwm2 GREAT I WILL BE WAITING. YOUR VIDEO RESPONSES ARE WELCOME ON THIS CHANNEL. KEEP UP THE DREAM. AND THANKS FOR THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE TO BREAK THROUGH TO A CHEAP AND PRACTICAL WOOD GASIFIER COOK STOVE. I AINT THE SMARTEST COOKIE ON THE PLANET, BUT I THINK I CAN MAKE THIS WORK WITH A FEW MODIFICATIONS AND EXPERIMENTS.
@SurvivalWithBushcraf A FEW DROPS WITH THAT MUCH OUTPUT IS WHAT MADE ME VIDEO TAPE IT. I GUESS I HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO ATTACH THE CANS. ALUMINUM FOIL TAPE IS GOOD BUT NOT THAT GOOD. LOL.
@SurvivalWithBushcraf YA JUST WATCHING THE TWISTER OF FIRE CAN KEEP ONE OCCUPIED FOR A WHILE. LOL. IT'S A GOOD THING I DIDNT USE ALUMINUM CANS FOR THIS ONE. THAT THING GOT HOT AND QUICK TOO.
@shuzzbutts ALUMINUM FOIL TAPE. LOL. IT IS ONLY A TEST UNIT. ALTHOUGH I PLAN TO SEE HOW MUCH THE TAPE WILL TAKE. I'M SURE THIS IS AN OUTSIDE PROJECT FOR THE MAX BURN TESTS. LOL. WHEN THAT ALUMINUM TAPE GETS HOT ENOUGH, THE GLUE WILL FRY AND STINK PRETTY GOOD. I SMELT THE ENAMEL FROM THE CANS SMOKING WHEN I FIRED IT UP THE FIRST AND SECOND TIME. AND I ONLY BURNED IT FOR 10 SEC.
SO...DO YOU THINK I NEED TO MAKE A VIDEO ON THE LONG BURNOUT TEST? YOU KNOW..WITH ALL THE SMOKE AND FIREWORKS.
@CaptBart YA I HAD TO SHOW YA'LL WHEN I SAW THE OUTPUT. I HAVE PLAYED WITH THIS CONCEPT YEARS AGO, BUT THE NEW BOTTOM MIX HAS A LOT MOR TWIST AND BETTER HEAT. NOW I HAVE TO BRING IT ALL TOGETHER WITH WOOD CAPABILITIES. EXCITEMENT IS ON THE HORIZON. BTW!, GREAT PRODUCTION AND MUSIC IN THE LAST VIDEO YOU MADE. SWEET! ... PRODUCER CAPTBART. NICE RING...
Fuel air ratio is key. In the past, I have built a burner with a hopper on top. It would burn anything and everything. From fresh chipped wood to leaves stuffed down the hopper. I'm convinced this burner was actually splitting water molecules and burning the hydrogen. The only thing that came out of the stack was heat!
@a2zhandi THANKS HANDY, FUEL AIR MIX AND DRAW SEEM TO BE THE TOTAL SO FAR. THE TWISTER EFFECT SEEMS TO MIX THE RATIO UP PRETTY GOOD. THIS PROJECT JUST BECAME MORE INTERESTING TO ME. MORE WORK AND TIME WILL BE SPENT ON IT UNTIL I GET THE ONE I LIKE MOST.
I ALSO HAVE A FEW IDEAS ON KEEPING THE DRAW AND NOT WASTING THE HEAT IN A TALL STACK.
THE EFFICIENT BURN AND LONG TIME FUEL BURN IS THE GOAL.
Pt 1.I seem to be one of the few gasifier builders that actually use them. Everyone seems to be focusing on high heat and not concerned with conserving wood and prolonging cooking time by controlling the flame and oxygen. I concluded that a tall design worked much better. I surmise it is because like a tall chimney will cause good draft. Unfortunately for practical camping cooking tall is not so good.
@walkertongdee Pt 2 For camping one does not want to have to carry pellets in when wood is everywhere abound. A really good gasifier that is backpackable is not likely but if one has the room in a boat like me a tall skinny one can be supported perhaps on a large outer can that is not functional. The skinny design burns slower and gasifies more efficiently and that is what is needed.
@walkertongdee TALLER AND SKINNIER THE KEY. I BELIEVE THAT TO BE THE KEY. FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR IN THE EXPERIMENTS. I NEED MORE DRAW AND THE AIR AND GAS MIX.
My seeds came in number 10 cans. That's probably too wide, but if (more like when) I need to cook something outside I'm keeping this in mind. I have so many canned goods I could make enough of those to heat a hideout in the woods.
With alcohol you don't have anything restricting the airflow. With solid fuels you will have air flow restrictions. Will be interesting to see how you approach this. Nice vid.
@thrundar PROBABLY MORE VACCUUM. LONGER TOP, WOOD BELOW THE SPIRAL AIR FLOW VENTS SO IT BURNS THE GAS BUT WITH SLIGHTLY SMALLER VENTS TO KEEP A DRAW ON THE BOTTOM WHERE THE WOOD IS. IN OTHER WORDS,,, 2 STAGES AND MORE LENGTH.
@rikkiesix HA HA! DID YOU HEAR IT ROARING A BIT? I COULD FEEL A NICE HEATED BREEZE WHEN I HAD THE CAMERA WAY UP ABOVE IT. AS I WAS MAKING IT , I LOOKED AT THE HOLES AND NOTICED THAT THE HOLES WERE BIGGER THAN IF I HAD JUST PUT THEM SIDE BY SIDE. MORE AIR, AND A NEET WAY TO MIX IT. THE CAMERA WOULD NEED A DARK LENS TO SHOW THE FULL TWISTER INSIDE THE CAN. IT WAS PRETTY.
@muddymuddymuddmann Pt3.Also some kind of draft slide like grandmas wood stove had is a good idea. Wood burns fast and a fat can accelerates the problem. A tall can is more efficient because the wood burns from the top down and draft sucks the heat and air down and recalculates it to the burner rings reintroducing it to the flame area.
@walkertongdee I WAS THINKING TO DRAFT UP AND BURN THE TOP, BUT AFTER YOU SAID THE GRANNY CARB AND GRAVITY FUEL FEED, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE EXTRA WORK TO CONVERT TO A TOP FED FUEL SYSTEM WOULD BE PRETTY HANDY AND WORTH IT. KEEP IT SKINNY!!!
@harpbloke HA HA I BET IT WOULD MELT STUFF. I DIDNT THINK IT WOULD DRAW AND MIX SO MUCH AIR WITH THE ALCOHOL SO FAST. IT SOUNDED LIKE A BLOW TORCH. NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS FIGURE THE REST OF THE MODIFICATIONS TO BURN WOOD GAS. I THINK I HAVE IT WORKED OUT, I HAVE TO BUILD ANOTHER ONE WITH HOLES AND JETS SET UP IN DIFFERENT PLACES THAN THIS ONE. THIS WAS A THOUGHT I HAD WHILE LOOKING AT A SPIRAL PICTURE. 15 MINUTES LATER I HAD IT BUILT AND TESTED AND SAID WOW. SO I TESTED IT AGAIN ON VID.
preheat the intake air, if possible, put it inside of another can as the inner can heats up it'll preheat the intake air, use a can lid as the grate to hold the wood. the top can should be Bigger so you can set your pot down in leaving only alittle aroud your top pot for smoke exhaust
@bret354 THANKS! I THINK A POT SKIRT WOULD BE A GOOD THING AND A HEFTY BUILT STAND. PREHEATING THE AIR WOULD BRING THE TEMP UP A NICELY. AND MAKE IT BURN CLEANER.
Very neat!

@muddymuddymuddmann I wonder? would JB WELD work any better?
shuzzbutts 1 year ago
@shuzzbutts IT WOULD PROBABLY STINK REAL NICE WHEN IT HEATS UP. IVE GOT A FEW IDEAS FOR THAT PROBLEM THOUGH.

@deadguy237 BE CAREFUL I ONLY PUT A FEW DROPS IN THAT THING. 1/2 SECOND SQUIRT THROUGH A PIN HOLE IN THE ALCOHOL BOTTLE.

Thanks
a2zhandi 1 year ago
THANKS.

Unfortunately for practical camping cooking tall is not so good.
walkertongdee 1 year ago
@walkertongdee Pt 2 For camping one does not want to have to carry pellets in when wood is everywhere abound. A really good gasifier that is backpackable is not likely but if one has the room in a boat like me a tall skinny one can be supported perhaps on a large outer can that is not functional. The skinny design burns slower and gasifies more efficiently and that is what is needed.
walkertongdee 1 year ago
@walkertongdee TALLER AND SKINNIER THE KEY. I BELIEVE THAT TO BE THE KEY. FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR IN THE EXPERIMENTS. I NEED MORE DRAW AND THE AIR AND GAS MIX.
THANKS. MUDDy

My seeds came in number 10 cans. That's probably too wide, but if (more like when) I need to cook something outside I'm keeping this in mind. I have so many canned goods I could make enough of those to heat a hideout in the woods.
JOHNNYH8STHENWO 1 year ago
@JOHNNYH8STHENWO WITH WIDER CANS IT WOULD ALSO HAVE TO BE A BIT TALLER, IT WOULD MELT A LOT OF ALUMINUM. ALL 3 OF THESE WERE JUST CANNED VEGGIES.

With alcohol you don't have anything restricting the airflow. With solid fuels you will have air flow restrictions. Will be interesting to see how you approach this. Nice vid.
thrundar 1 year ago

@muddymuddymuddmann I heard the roaring. That was great. Just at the end of the video you could see the flames spinning, really neat
Cheers buddy

@rikkiesix YA AND THE WAY IT WAS SPINNING THE FLAME MADE IT RUN A 1 1/2 INCH WIDE SPIRE FLAME IN THE CENTER. NICE HEAT TOO.

muddymuddymuddmann 1 year ago
@muddymuddymuddmann Pt3.Also some kind of draft slide like grandmas wood stove had is a good idea. Wood burns fast and a fat can accelerates the problem. A tall can is more efficient because the wood burns from the top down and draft sucks the heat and air down and recalculates it to the burner rings reintroducing it to the flame area.
walkertongdee 1 year ago
@walkertongdee I WAS THINKING TO DRAFT UP AND BURN THE TOP, BUT AFTER YOU SAID THE GRANNY CARB AND GRAVITY FUEL FEED, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE EXTRA WORK TO CONVERT TO A TOP FED FUEL SYSTEM WOULD BE PRETTY HANDY AND WORTH IT. KEEP IT SKINNY!!!

great stuff. i did similar, with one big hole, at an angle, and a second tube with a computer fan. it was crazy and melted stuff, ha.
harpbloke 1 year ago
SO I TESTED IT AGAIN ON VID.

preheat the intake air, if possible, put it inside of another can as the inner can heats up it'll preheat the intake air, use a can lid as the grate to hold the wood. the top can should be Bigger so you can set your pot down in leaving only alittle aroud your top pot for smoke exhaust
bret354 1 year ago 2
@bret354 THANKS! I THINK A POT SKIRT WOULD BE A GOOD THING AND A HEFTY BUILT STAND. PREHEATING THE AIR WOULD BRING THE TEMP UP A NICELY. AND MAKE IT BURN CLEANER.
