Well, of course it was fake...but who cares? It was a real genius moment in these guys' take on comedy. It's why they still are the top of the rubbish heap as far as comedy goes.
nah the stage invasion is fake because the BBC thought they would be sent less letters if they showed an angry and offended audience during this sketch, otherwise Python would not have been allowed to have it broadcast
Absolute classic. I watched this when it was first broadcast and it was VERY risque then! I think the stage invasion was pretty obviously a set-up, but even that was VERY original at the time. Thanks for posting it!
Monty Python's humor was always based on shock value and surrealism, when you do shows to a laugh track, everyone laughs. When you do it to an audience yelling at you, you get what they were really looking for.
Some of the Python team thought this was well-dodgy but then said, "Why not?" But they organised the audience thing to cover their slight embarassment.
He said "she's in this sac" and the screamings are on porpuse. They have another sketch (a cannibal one) where the audience also invades the set. It's one more thing that made them diferent from EVERYBODY else...
This sketch of dark, morbid, surreal humour was already classic in its pure self. The heckling and invasion of the audience added a bit more merit.

If you really feel bad, then we can dig a grave and you can throw up in it.
I personally wouldn't have been able to say that with a straight face.

When I saw John Cleese live in Oslo he performed both parts of this sketch. He described it as "perhaps the naughtiest sketch we ever did".
