I'm a graduate student at the Fairbank East Asia Research Center and I strongly disagree with dakarateboi's statement. Some islands in Japan's possession were indeed once part of China but they were lost during the imperialist years. Tibet has been historically a part of China on an autonomous basis mostly. I personally feel the Pro-Tibet protesters are overstepping their rights and ruining the Olympics for everyone.

On 24.04. the torch reaches Australia. Ted Quinlan, australian organizator, said: the chinese elite-soldiers cannot run behind the torch, they have to sit in their bus, all the time. If they touch somebody, they get arrestet by australian police. Only australian police can protect the torch in Australia.
