  • its called a navy because its a .36...army is .44

  • I am a proud owner of a 51 navy and in my oppinion its the most reliable of any black powder pistol. Iv taken everything from chipmonks to coyotes with mine. Its a lethal and reliable piece of history.

  • Hey duelist :) What do you think about the Rogers & Spencer BlackPowder Revolver? Ever shot one? I am considering buying one, and from what I hear they're pretty darn good. Any thoughts?

  • Badass looking old navy revolver! damn!

  • Yeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • btw which one would you advise me to buy the civilian navy, the confederate or the original

  • @RickAzzy Rick, I'm not sure what you mean by "Confederate Model", but if you mean a brass frame, I would avoid it in favor of a steel frame.

  • Outstanding series of videos on historical firearms on this channel. These videos are the best I've seen distinguishing the various cap and ball revolvers. This Colt Navy video, in particular, helped me decide on an Uberti Navy. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

  • What is the name of the knife you used

  • I have a Walker Colt 44 and handle it one handed with efficiency love the weapon the Navys are nice but the .36 is wayyyyy too light

  • the metal is way to soft for my comfort. so i have to keep my loads at 22-23 grains. can i go lower without being unsafe at cowboy action shooting? you would know better than me thanks

  • @glynamus I think the load you're using is excellent, and shouldn't hurt the gun. But you could go down to 15 grains.

  • nice shootin! I love my 1851! had it for ten years now still shoots great, its a fllipietta. Got it for 80 bucks!

  • hey.. i have a 1851 navy brass 44cal. what powder load should i use safely

  • @wolfmanlevi123 25 to 30 grains

  • Ps i'm not a big spender on collecter weapons so give me the cheapest price

  • @RickAzzy Try Cabelas.com.

  • @duelist1945, hi, I really want one of those pistols can you tell me the prices of both the model. Btw I live Europe so could you send me a website which sells the revolvers my email is azzyrick@gmail.com

  • Hi, i have a question... I just reseaved a 1851 navy colt .44 cal with a brass frame for christmas and i am a avide deer hunter and maryland law states that u have to use 40 grains of powder to hunt with a black powder handgun and i was woundering if 35 grains would hurt the gun?

  • @TheTac50 Eventually it will stretch and batter the frame leaving you with barrel cylinder gap issues.

  • for a nipple pick i use about a 1 and a half inch long length of copper wire, i took it out of an old cable wire, just stripped the plastic part off and removed the copper part from the core, it works excellent, i bent it so it has a different length on each end. give a try im sure ul think it works good! u can even build it into some kind of handle if u like, it seems to b the perfect size!!

  • I'd love to see you do a episode on the 1858 Remington Navy .36. I have a Pietta 6" belt model and its the most accurate of any handgun Ive ever shot including modern.

  • shoot, i wanted to make comment about that. haha, hey your videos are great! really enjoying, great for people who are interested as well as old timers

  • how much do those .375 lead balls weigh?

  • Nice guns, but what a pain to load!

  • What is the logic behind leaving one chamber empty when you can rest the hammer on one of the half notches in-between? I understand why people do it, but it seems like an unnecessary safety precaution to me that only serves to gimp the firepower of a six shooter.

  • where did you get that nipple pick from?

  • @taco1030 It is sold by Traditions. I think I picked it up in Bass Pro Shop

  • @duelist1954 nice i might check them out fyi i love your videos man really high quality informative videos

  • can u shoot mini balls out of these

  • @hopecamel You can shoot conical bullets, but, as far as I know, there aren't any .36 mini balls.

  • Awsome video!!! Thank you very much for taking the time to put this together. I just purchased my Colt 1851 Navy and since it is my first BP I was worried about the loading. But after watching your video, I now am more excited then ever to go shootin. One of the main reasons why I got this gun is because in the area I metal detect "A 1858 millitary camp" I found .36 conical bullets. They are not like the mini with a concave bottom but more like the sharps with a solid conical.

  • The Calvery Twist Draw was so cool looking.I rewatched it 5 times. Thanks for showing the entire loading process,I have never seen that done before.

  • British aerospace industry+building jet engines in USA = Pegasus engines for Harriers ?

  • @mrtlsimon No. TF-41 Engines for A-7s. They were jointly manufactured by Detroit Diesel Allison and Rolls Royce.

  • @duelist1954 A-7s cool,I helped support A-4s,AV-8Bs,F-4s,F/A -18s and A-6s when I was in the Marine Corps.During and iventory in 1990 I found an old Pegasus engine in our warehouse,I was all geeked up because I knew it was an early Harrier engine.....noone else cared.

  • @mrtlsimon I worked for the Navy for 30 years. I started in aviation logistics and moved to the ships and subs side. When I retired I was the deputy director of Maritime Weapon System Support on the supply end of things.

  • @duelist1954 USMC AVIATION SUPPLY 1989-93,I was a computer operator for both fixed wing and rotary units.Semper Fi ,we fell asleep to the roar of some of the same powerplants. You can't fly without supply!

  • Another great video, Mike

  • Great video. Very informative, interesting, and well photographed. Doesn't hurt that you're talking about what is perhaps my all time favorite weapon, too. Few, if any other handguns surpass it for pure eye-pleasing aesthetics either.

  • @TheSolitarySojourner When you're right, you're right. I think they are sweet looking sixguns too.

  • I love the 1851 Navy. It was my first cap & ball revolver in the late 60s. Thanks Mike.

  • love them 1851's
