  • Me and a group of guys in my choir are doing this!

  • knew the version everyone was talking about would be stroope's! why is my taste so good? :) lol

  • i sang this yesterday .... i just found this song with the right version today :(

  • Very refreshing to hear an all-male version. I had heard about Texas All-State Men's doing a version but it completely slipped my mind until now. It's very interesting to see what parts of the arrangement end up becoming more pronounced and the difference of the effect when changing the tempo of the song, especially when comparing this to the one I posted of SoCal Regional Women's.

Thanks for the upload! This was great, and I'm sure it would have been even more breathtaking had I seen it live.

  • this is the best redition I've seen on youtube yet. sounds very powerful and strong-spirited

  • Wait...Stroope himself conducted this?

  • i know stroope composed this but he conducted this choir

  • @rlane91 Or poor microphone on the camera. Handheld video cameras have notoriously bad microphones built in. No low end response.

  • who conducted?

  • @gangofred Stroope

  • This is an amazing video. Men's Choirs just have so much to bring to the table, and this video proves it fullheartedly.

  • I LOVE IT! whos the composer?

  • @tobi5084 it's been a month, so you might've found out who the composer is, but just in case you didn't, it's Randall Stroope

  • @tobi5084 this was composed by Z. Randall Stroope

  • favorite version too, but was this group mainly composed of tenors?

  • I want more Dies Irae sung by Men and Boys.... Verdi, Mozart, etc. Anymore?

  • I really just have to say that there are NO other men's chorus versions out there that even come close to this. I live in Colorado, but seriously, Texas has some kick ass choirs.

  • texas in the house! this is by far the best version out there. Great everything

  • Singing in this ensemble was one of the most fun experiences of my entire life. STROOPE.

  • So far this is my favorite version.

  • We sang this for Minnesota All State Men's Choir, too! :D Awesome job. I love this song.

  • @youngerman345 It was fun to do! We'll do it better in feb!

  • This is a very beautiful but forceful song. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. The choir did an amazing job of harmonizing, and the dynamics are beautiful.

The 8th/9th grade men's choir sang this song at my school this year, and they did an amazing job as well.

  • @RapidPanda Fasho. My high school women's chorus sang this song, and ever since I've always wanted to sing it lol.

  • I think that they really accomplished that because no matter how many times I listen to this song, it never gets old. And, it sounds so much better in Men's voices. Don't get me wrong, I love women's voices, but there is just something about a powerful men's chorus singing about the end of the world that just gets to me, haha.

  • @gphillip17 I 100% agree with you!

  • Such energy in this performance, yet wonderful articulation, and a beautiful legato in the pie jesu section.... We are doing this this spring for SWIowa Men and I hope we can do it well. It is a fabulous piece.

  • I absolutely love this song in men's voices! It sounds great! And the piano ia awesome! I love the section where it gets slow and drawn out! GORGEOUS! Great performance, gentlemen! This is one of my favorite songs by Stroope, and just favorite songs haha!

  • This song is absolutely amazing! And the way the piano is giving the undertone fits in perfectly. You'd expect to hear this in a End of the World movie of something, haha. My choir is doing this in the Spring Concert. I hope we sound good! =)

  • i know from personal experience that this song is very hard to perform, but after listening to some other versions, plus my own schools, i think it was a tad bit too slow. =/

  • @JAyala7293

They did it at this speed for dramatic effect man. It really makes it original although it's a popular song. But i feel where your comin from

  • Yay... I was in this Choir!!! WOOT!

  • holy crap. amazing.

  • OMG WOW..........This is Amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • The guys at my highschool sang this a few years back. I LOVE this one.

  • Amazing. Chills.

    I LOVE men voices... Ah.

    Amazing.

  • Texas is the best!!!

  • very good!

  • wow. sorry,tx is the best

  • This pleases me.

  • This is the BEST all state chorus that I have ever listened to...BRAVO TEXAS!!!!!!!! These men are so talented!!!

  • it's a shame more stuff from Michgan's All-State aren't on youtube. they always have a first-rate all-state. dr. anton armstrong said it's one of the best in the nation....

  • Eh... Texas still has the best choirs. No other State can match it, sorry. It's not a bragging thing... It's just ten times more difficult to make All-State in Texas due to our population; only the best make it.

  • right you are :)

  • Agreed. I'm considering putting up stuff from this year's TTBB State Honors Choir. It was my first and only year, and i learned sooooo much.

  • especially last years all state band, i was at the performance because my brother was in it (and i plan on it this year) there will never be a group with that tonality again. it was absolutly amazing.

  • I'm tear-ring up right now...powerful...This is what men should/could be doing with their time and energy...acting as a Team to bring such phenomenal strength and beauty to the planet...TY!

  • The latin poetry isnt all like "Im a lion, Im a lion , I wil eat you!"

theres a poetic thing too like instead of having an accent on "Dies Irae" tehre should have been less emphasis on "Irae" idk but its hard to control.

  • Sounds Awesome. who is the composer?

  • Z. Randall Stroope.

  • Of Course Stroope is the composer. Stroope is the composer of all powerful choral music nowadays. lol. jkjk I LOVE RANDALL STROOPE"S STUFF!

  • wow this brought a tear in my eye i wish indiana still had a mens choir...

  • wow this is beautiful. i love mens voices. but i loove bass the best

  • I'd rather in male voices...this piece requires more powerful voices to express God's wrath!!!

  • our women's choir is singing this. it's so AMAZING. i like it better with women voice better, but this is good too.

  • Ahhh! What a scary yet awesome piece.

  • wow this was amazing. i made men's this year =) so i hope it goes as good as last years.

  • i still get so excited when i hear this whole concert i'd rather make mens choir with Dr. Stroope anyday but this year's mixed :)

  • i think i see sam from oconnor.i cant say much. just dont lose control.i really wish i had the opprotunity to sing in this choir. i really wish i had made all- state last year... but this is my year. no joke im going to go.

  • wow this song is spectacular! cant wait for pre-area audition, just wait til i kick cantate domino in its face!

    go freshman soprano 1's :P

  • This song is absolutley amazing, that was one of the finest tenor sections ive ever been in. one of Dr. Stroope's finest pieces. i still get goose bumps whenever i hear it.

  • I did this piece of music and we sound nothing like this. You guys nailed all the pitches and were much better than I was. Congrats!

  • it was an amazing experience to sing to of doctor z's pieces.

  • my boy sid rockin it one t1 pretty much the voice you hear is his. 1st chair. im going to be there next year

  • wow

  • Wow.

    This is spectacular.

  • this was like the best experience ever i'm glad i made men's cuz i would've been pissed not to work with Dr. Stroope

  • This song is kick ass...he came to our school North Harford High last week...unfortunately our Dies Irae wasn't quite as good because the freshman (especially the tenor freshman) didn't know the song at all.

  • i get to sing this with miami's glee club in october at their stage.

its rare that they pick a group of high school students to do it.

i go to mason... go comets!!

  • Ooh, I've never heard this performed by a men's choir before. Wow.

    Z. Randall Stroope is amazing. I got to work with him a few years back, and it was a wonderful experience. Not to mention I love all his compositions and arrangements.

  • Dr. Stroope is amazing.

Sorry to let everyone know this particular song was arranged for a womens choir ;)

But, I get to meet him in January, I'm SOOO excited!!

  • When I was in district choir back in February he was our director and he did this with the women. We also did the conversion of saul

  • actually, Stroope wrote this version himself for men voices.

  • THIS IS A TRUE CHIOR

  • OMFG I WANT IN!

    GOD THIS IS AMAZING

  • has a friend that made this choir and listening to this song im even more jealous than i was then

  • haha i wish i made all state.

i would get to be in an amazing choir and watch dr. stroope dance

  • Having a composer like stroope is an unrepeatable experience. His love for music really comes through, especially during the rehearsals.

  • i liked how during some of the rehearsals he was more flexible when he made us stretch than most of the other guys

  • Z. Randall Stroope?

Didn't he make an arrangement of "There is No Rose?" Oh, our chamber choir in school is singing that and it's absolutely gorgeous. The All state texas choirs really are beautiful.

  • Who is the composer of this Dies irae?

  • Z. Randall Stroope. It really helps to have the actual composer of the piece as your clinician. ^_^

  • Oh, wow. Lucky.

  • yeah i understand i was in the 2003 mixed and we did like 3 of his pieces and also premiered one an die freude

  • this is quite magnificant.

  • Is that Z. Randall Stroope?

  • all state mens in tennessee did this last year.. my cousin loved it.

  • Texas MIXED choir 2008!!! TEnor I's rock!!!

I was at this concert...It was AWESOME!!!

  • Just awesome! I was a baritone in the mixed choir, and rushed after rehearsal to get a seat at this concert. Phenomenal performance, great power!

  • im mad that this choir didn't get a full orch!! ugh.... it would have beeen so much more amazing with these powerful male voices... and a kind of forboding orchestral sound... ahh.. this song gives me chills.. TEXAS IS THE BEST.. no one can top us

  • trudat

  • Sang this for the Florida All-State Men's Chorus. I love this piece.

  • whao! talk about powerfull tenors and basses. awesome! Wish my state had a guys all state choir.

    5/5 stars!

  • i love stroope i was in 2003 mixed when he conducted before i loved singing his music especially lamentations. Go Bass 1

  • sounds good. never herd it has a boys only song. we sung it last year with just girls.

  • wow we were bad ass, gogo Tenor 1's

  • so does nobody have "i will greatly rejoice" or did nobody like that one? haha

  • i loved that piece, actually. my dad was taking pictures of the choir when we started, and didnt get to record it.=(

we'll just have to wait for the cd.(which i'm so ready to get)
