I watched a documentary about Motown and during an interview Martha said she was upset when she recorded this song. I think it was because she didn't like the song or something like that. She said her frustration can definitely be heard the minute she says "Calling Out.....". I love inside stories like that..haha
Man, i thought the music of the 70's was the best, cause i was little & remember it well. But the 60's has my head bobin, & have me relaxed; and i am a Christian.
MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS playing live at The Duchess, York - Thursday 2nd February 2012. As you can expect tickets are selling quick....don't miss out.
While I think the speed is a bit off, this is actually the way the record really did sound, sans things like echo chamber; I really like the way this release is done; thank you.
It didn't get any better than Martha and the Vandellas and of course my favorite, Sam Cooke. Wish we could bring it all back again. Great memories. Thanks!
Makes me proud, in a way. i can't explain just how though...I wish my generation can get back to this. No animosity, no negativity, just having fun and just dancing in the street! I love this song.
This was when black women had a little class and talent. Now most are just a bunch of african jungle bunnie niggers with hepatitis shakin' their giant fat monkey asses.
@70goldtop "This was when black women had a little class and talent. Now most are just a bunch of african jungle bunnie niggers with hepatitis shakin' their giant fat monkey asses."
Your stinky wet dog smelling, toothless, greasy haired, meth smoking, pock marked face, sister screwing cracka ass wouldn't know class if it kicked you in your inbred flat ass.
@tehutimes1 doesn't matter...we all have a right to our opinions, no matter how much we disagree. It's America after all. I really don't care what Mr. Walsh said about the boss, I care that he is a scumbag that ducks out on his child support (117K) and doesn't man up. My USMC Dad always said, "You can disrespect the man, just don't respect his uniform" in this case the office. LOL I just noted 70goldtop's comment was removed! If you wanna see some hatred, go to his channel...
@tehutimes1 Now you can all get along, Obama and liberals now love warmongering(notice the silence of the anti-war movement that was simply the anti-Bush movement) and assassinations of Americans without due process. The more things "Change" the more they stay the same.
And love the talk of "respect" for a leader! LOL
I guess the "respect" of W. was.....hmm....
anyways, all one big happy family now with the same policy and agendas.
@DinahWest Remember Clinton and some of those liberals + conservatives sent weapons to Mexico to control Native Mexicans in Chiapas State.Hell the cops kill folks
while dealing drugs & equiping Iran vs Iraq.Reagan ran roughshod over Grenada after us troops were killed in Lebanon even tho Euro allies were building hotels that us bombed along with innocent Grenadians.Gop kept IRS in getting money back from offshore-
@DinahWest accounts of the elite wealthy! Interest hidden away from good ol' Amerikka
by firms that use public roads etc. There were anti war protesters against Johnson & would've been against Kennedy if he hadn't been killed. Its not all 1 happy family.
Hell Bush,Cheney,Rice,Rumsfeld are big shareholders of oil & weapons makers
they were the administration who made the most profits while in office.AZt least Obama
didn't send troops to Libya and "say wmd are there".
This song is next to The Mamas and The Papas version on my iPod. When this song starts it just like a wall of sound. It just beacons you to get up and dance!
SIMPLY AMAZING TALENT & MUSIC. WONDERFUL ENTERTAINMENT AT CLOSE TO NO COST TO MAKE A VIDEO. THESE ARTISTS/GROUPS PAVED THE WAY FOR THE TALENT THAT WE HAVE TODAY. WOW, JUST AWESOME.

Wow! What memories! Lived in D.C. at the time. Took busses everywhere. On a cold winter night stood on 12th & Pennsylvania Avenue listening to this song on a transistor radio. Getting ready to go home for Christmas and see my babe! yeah!
@slightofffist This is a profoundly foolish comment, and it is a bummer that four dozen people seem to agree. The ability to dance has nothing to do with the amount of melanin in the pigment of a person's skin. Geez. It's 2011. Can we please get past this sort of dumb racism?
Listen to James Jamerson playing that bass. Genius. Mr. J.J. is driving that band hard. You gotta stay with him or he'll run ass over. Like a locomotive.
I remember reading in the NME that Martha & Co walked off the stage in France once because the orchestra were plating this as "a dirge"! This is an everlasting classic! I also recall watching Martha and the Vandellas in Coventry UK in the early 70's and as I recall they used this song as a reprise to get Stevie Wonder off the stage safely.
Bring back Soul and Funk music not rap and hiphop crap I have to hear about today. Sadly I am a teen in this decade and not the 60's and 70s. People my age dont even know who Steve Mcqueen is now thats sad
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
I think of this song as the Motown Anthem. Imagine my disappointment when we went to see Hitzville Motown Revue in Las Vegas and they didnt even cover it. There was only about 20 singers so I dont know what their ignorance was.
Believe it or not, Motown management had to tell their young acts in the 1960s to tone down the vigorousness of their (natural) dance moves so as not to scare white audiences! You can really tell about the 0:10 mark, that M and TV really wanted to let loose IMHO! Although Diane Ross had crossover appeal, M and the TV had true soul with their fun music!
When I see this video I am immediately transformed back to my teen years and how we loved to dance and listen to this tune. It always brings tears of joy and memory. Love you Martha and the Vandellas - such a great time and such a pleasure to still be able to hear you...
