I'm sorry but Circuses, Zoos, Wildlife parks, Aquariums and oceanariums allow people to see animals that they would normally only see in a book. Seeing an animal of this size and volume up close hits people differently than just reading about them and thus people are more inclined to want to help save their cousins in the wild.

I would like to add that my heart was lost to elephants a few years ago when I had the luck of meeting Michael Hackenburger who is owner and director of Toronto's Bowmanville Zoo. He gives forever homes and rescues circus elephants. He does use them and other animals to entertain. TO SUPPORT THE RESCUE. He makes that fact very clear. He also speaks openly about each elephants (if known) history how many were beaten to submit and the ivory trade.

I stopped going to animal circuses years ago. Elephants aren't supposed to be performing, and they're not supposed to be walking on concrete. They're supposed to be free-roaming on the grass.

I'm not an elephant trainer... and could never be one if hooking, kicking, slapping, and cursing the animal is the criteria for training. This video demonstrates very POOR behavior by the trainer/handler. His impatience is obvious. He's using the hook excessively BEFORE he gives the verbal command for action. This confuses Chrissie; she doesn't know what is expected of her. And where are the positive rewards for following the commands?

psychological abuse man, thats a difficult questions, i would not do it to an elephant or any other animal though psychological abuse is widely practiced to maintain a false hierarchy in our human condition.
an elephant will not easily commit suicide but many of our schoolchildren do and to prevent that we need to put our priorities there. it could even be things are interconnected.

My uncle worked at barnem bailey circus. was one of the clowns that did acrobatics. and such. he said that the animals were treated far less than what they said they were to the public. the elephants and the tigers ex specially.

I would like to add that my heart was lost to elephants a few years ago when I had the luck of meeting Michael Hackenburger who is owner and director of Toronto's Bowmanville Zoo. He gives forever homes and rescues circus elephants. He does use them and other animals to entertain. TO SUPPORT THE RESCUE. He makes that fact very clear. He also speaks openly about each elephants (if known) history how many were beaten to submit and the ivory trade.

I'm not an elephant trainer... and could never be one if hooking, kicking, slapping, and cursing the animal is the criteria for training. This video demonstrates very POOR behavior by the trainer/handler. His impatience is obvious. He's using the hook excessively BEFORE he gives the verbal command for action. This confuses Chrissie; she doesn't know what is expected of her. And where are the positive rewards for following the commands?
