Look at it this way.... If right now Dinoaurs were resurected and began mass scale desttruction and carnage on the human species, would you consider them evil? Of course you wouldn't. That's why most of the Great Old Ones aren't evil in the sense we know. However, a good case could be argued from some like Nyarlathotep, who is very human-like and understands human ways, even prefering driving people insane rather than killing them.

If you are referring to the mention of the solstice, supposedly the old ones would return when the stars were right for it. The solstice is when the tilt of the earth is pointed most closely at the sun. The sun is a star.

Lovecraft the most powerful beings in the universe are terrifying and evil, whose very existence threaten humanity, and there is no hope for us. This is in contrast to "the carol of the bells" which is a pretty christmas song.
