Does anybody know what that horse's name is? He/she is really pretty! I am going to buy a horse and barrel race on it (yay!)! Does anybody have a reccomendation on what brand of leg pretection and type I should put on my horse? Thanks!
@animalLuverify Professionals Choice, Classic Equine and Ventech are all great brands. For Leg protection for the front legs you could use Polo wraps ahich come in many diff colors and are cheap but help to suport the tendons and such lots of people use them. You could also use splint boots which are more expensive or bell boots if you horse over reaches or crosses its front legs.
@animalLuverify For the hind legs skid boots are awesome for barrel racing and reining as the horse gets so close to the ground and puts lots of pressure on the hind leg, not everone uses them but they are good for extra support. What kind of horse do you plan on getting? Have you ever Barrel Raced before!
17.01? thats alittle pathetic for a champ. i ride a thoroughbred ex race horse who hated going any where near barrels but will do it for me and on his 3rd show ran a 16.83 (didnt win) and he bearly ever even has a western saddle on! so that makes me feel better that the world champ runs a 17.01 XD
@Ispillmyheart4u this is a large outdoor pattern, 60 feet from the timer to the first barrel, 90 feet between the first and second barrels and 105 between the second and third. 16 second runs are almost unheard of on these patterns. You were surely running on a smaller one.
@horsepower13579 nope our saddle series is to nations standard it was a large course, but my horse is a champion ex race horse who has a stupidly fast take off which he does after every barrel we dont have little shows there big shows we have floridas district champs come and a girl that was once floridas state champ boards at our barn.
@horsieb19 How do you know that this pattern is extremely similar or the same as the one rodeo you went to? Did you measure out both patterns and were the timers were set?
she sucks!!! do not go to her clinics she trimms yer horses feet and filles there teeth to the way she wants them to be and she dosent even spend any time with you at all!!!!!!
Ignorance is bliss, I guess. There are lots of things that are perceived as negative by others that are not in that particular industry. Geez, hmmm............let's see.........WP horses for the most part are rarely turned out, their gaits are made into some ridiculous motion far removed from what's natural for a horse, the list can go on and on.
Wow, awsome clip! the sheer power of these horses and the synchronicity of horse + rider is mindblowing! slow motion makes you appreciate it all the more- western riding looks really fun.-thanks.
It has to do with weight redistribution from front to back too quickly which can lead to hind end leg(stifles, hocks, etc) injuries.
A horse is carrying a lot of weight and when you pull up that fast from an all out run, you are not giving him enough time to get his legs up under himself properly, and this can lead to tears, strains, etc.
Of course, you already knew that didnt you? Or probably not.
Do you own horses? CJ (Charmayne James) has been running barrrels for over 30 yrs! She's won millions, most of it on a horse from her dad's feedlot. I've seen (along with I'm sure millions of othere people) one of her horses finish a barrel pattern after her headstall broke!
Horses that are treated poorly do not run for YEARS and compete and do their best when they are treated "poorly". Her horses have the best feed, veterinary, chiropractic (health) care of any horses that I have ever seen! If you are going to make a negative, ignorant comment about one of the TOP horsewomen in the world, check your facts first. There is more than enough info on her out there..

Has nothing to do with that.

I'm not all that sure you know what you're talking about. Her horse did not stop immediately once she pulled him up. He had plenty of time to stop.
