  • I came across these and your channel very much by accident. Like a previous poster I have been enchanted by the filmed version of the production since it was first aired and have watched a copy for years. Thank you for posting this! I will enjoy lurking around your channel exploring the choral and instrumental bits you have placed there. Thanks!

  • Thank you for posting these. What a treat.

  • What I wouldn't give to have been a fly on the wall at this rehersal process. I love the filmed version of the play; I watch it at least once a year, all nine hours. Thanks for posting this!

  • The rehearsals were utter chaos. David Edgar was writing the piece in a little cubby hole just off the Floral St rehearsal room & producing scenes with codes numbers, & the actors learnt & rehearsed them with no idea of the ultimate order. Only halfway throu the process did it dawn on anyone that it all wasnt going to fit into a single evening. And that was before the problems of physically getting it onstage emerged. It would have sunk the career of anyone other than Trevor (Houdini) Nunn!

  • Somehow, that doesn't surprise me. So what was your position on this show?

  • Conductor

  • Ditto of my theatre performing career. I never saw so many people so deeply affected by any other piece I was involved with. Ah, the stories I will one day tell about the production period!

  • Still remember loving the version I saw on tv as a teenager. How wonderful to see this documentary.

  • I saw this production in 1981. It was one of the most memorable events of my theatre going career.
