There is a major difference between being influenced by an artist and trying to BE THE ARTIST which is exactly what Norman Is attempting to do. Maybe He lacks self confidence and has not yet found himself. I am not trying to be mean or malicious and I am great admirer of GB and NB They are both GREAT but true greatness comes from ORIGINALITY.
@4034alvin It really sounds like a personal problem. Do you feel that way about all the great Rock and Roll Players. where do you think they got there flavor from.
@4034alvin You obviously haven't listened enough to them both. GB's distinct style and phrasing are very recognizable and none of those are present here. I suggest you get all of Norman's albums, listen to them and get to know the man's music and style. I also suggest you go practice if you are a musician, and if you're not, hold your peace and just enjoy the music and not make ignorant criticism.
Those who judge others in this way - have no creative peace within themselves because they can't produce anything themselves that they are truly happy with? Creativity in general is the highest form of communication= copy cat, original, or otherwise? Just be happy you are not the ones who complain at that level! LOL
Regardless of what his influences were from..we all take a little something from everyone who we listen to growing up. If you can't see the talent in Norman Brown. Then you are truly a loudsy guitar instructor who is teaching something no one likes or relate to. If you're such a great guitarist..How many albums can you sell or who would want to see your sorry ass play. Shut up and enjoy what music has to offer..good or bad..he's doing it and you're not.
I am not a fan nor a hater but a guitarist an instructor for more than forty years and simply believe you should be yourself and not attempt to be someone else.
@4034alvin Thank God there are fan(s) that an artist can attract and not just a fan like you who is hating on someone else's God given talent...just remember this I ain't mad at you, I'm sure there are other artists out there who I could have similar feelings....but they have there fans and I am not one of them.
@4034alvin He is not an exact clone of of Benson, yes he derives his playing from his, but also Wes Montgomery and Hendrix. He has a more hip, current sound and songwriting.
as you see I did the same thing. in fact when B.E.T. Jazz was on the air I was always looking in the TV guide to see when it came on. I was already into George Benson, so it was a no brainer to like Norman B. I was still learning how to play the sax and I would always learn from guitar players and keyboardist like oscar pererson for example. I like that free flowing melodic style both instruments are capable of delivering if they are in the right hands!
Norman is my favorite artist in the world. me and my wife recently went on a jazz cruise. where you actually get to meet shake hands and mingle with greats like norman. He is one of the sweetest good hearted people that you will ever meet. God Bless you norman. Your friend - Ray aka scooby chain.
@GigglingGirI I want to see you top Norman Brown. That mans a Grammy winner and still creating music. I can't wait to see your performance and get your cd.
Ps Thats the way love goes is one of my favorites. He does not sound like GB on this one.
